Robertson is a beast. Just crushed a CBJ player after two dirty hits from Meyer and then gets in a fight (scrum). 5 minute misconduct for roughing. Started two scrums this game.

Scored once but could have had a couple. Him and SDA have been on another level the past two games.

Another KADRI

If we're lucky.

honestly, I thought that was kind of a dumb penalty for Robby. Ultimately it cost his team the game. I would have been choked as well with the prior runs at him, but he's gotta be more disciplined. He had a bunch of retaliatory penalties with the Marlies last year as well. He's gotta figure that shit out. He straight cro-checked the dude in the head, he could have got his jabs in another way IMO. It was a pretty dirty shot from the from the one angle we saw. I'm sure if we saw more than 1 camera angle he might have gotten away with just a major lol. Not sure you can get a suspension in a development camp game, but I'm sure they'd look at it if they can.
Personally I like it. He has pushback and pest attributes in his game. The AHL level is dirty and he doesn't shy away.

Multiple cheap shots on him this game and that play was him jumping in for SDA. We need more players with that attitude, he can learn to reel it in as he matures.

Ya I love the intensity. I actually miss that aspect from Kadri. People seem to forget the game Kadri was having before he got suspended in his last game as a Leaf. He was easily the only f***ing player on the ice for the Leafs who showed up in any fashion. He came to the defense of Marleau, on what was a dirty play by DeBrusk IMO. I get why people wanted to blame Kadri for losing to the bruins in that series, but truth be told, this team beat themselves in the exact fashion they have always done before. They didn't show up when it mattered the most. Kadri on the otherhand showed up every time, at least in the games he wasn't suspended lol.

But I'm Pretty sure if anyone else decided to show up in that game Naz wouldn't have needed to retaliate in that fashion. Maybe instead of being down a couple goals in a game where he was the only one to show up, he wouldn't have felt the need to retaliate. I'm convinced if our stars had half the amount of compete that Naz has we'd be well past this mental hurdle of the 1st round. Naz never backed down from the big moment. We need more of that.

I'd have no problem if Nick can bring a little bit of that edge to the Leafs as well. But I will say, he has a history of stupid penalties, from what I've seen. I don't give a shit about him doing this in a dev camp game. But he needs to pick his spots a bit better. I would be choked if my teammate put my team down a man for the entire OT. Even in a dev camp game. f*** I get pissed in beer league if that stuff happens lol. Like f***, firstly who likes killing penalties? no one. Secondly, Now his teammates have to essentially get bagged for 5 mins straight and sit in shooting lanes while these guys just tee up one timers.... just cuz Nick wanted to get his pound of flesh?

I donno, I think I'd be pretty choked at him. Especially when they battled back in the game late.

It's obviously not the end of the world, but the more stupid penalties that he takes throughout the year the more his team will start to resent him. He's just gotta dial it back a bit IMO. But I agree, I do like the competitiveness

Yeah for me:

Clearly NHL stuff:

1. Robertson

Guys that looked consistently better than expected and might actually be prospects:

1. Douglas
2. McKenna
3. Scott
4. Villeneuve

The rest of the guys we consider to be legit prospects were all hit and miss imo. I would say I like Gogolev's game the best of them, SDA came on after a slow start, Abramov was fairly invisible.

Did he take down three different guys on this play?

If we are going to have small players in our lineup they need to show more than skill. I love Robertson game bring that type of fight to the big team .
Need this from our top six players .

Yup I think I would agree with all of this.

Was pleasantly surprised by Villeneuve as well. He looks like he thinks the game better than he is able to play it at the current moment. I think his skating is clearly the area he needs to work on the most IMO. He is like a diesel engine, takes him forever to get fully going. But his vison is quite good. If he can figure out his skating he could be a legit prospect.

Scott looked really sharp IMO. Excited to see what a full AHL season will do for him.

I was also shocked to see Abramov got 6Pts. I hardly noticed him out there.

SDA will be extremely frustrating to watch if he ever becomes a Leaf. One great play followed by 2 bad plays. He put up pts today, but he also threw a really dumb pass back to the point that got deflected on an expiring 5 on 3, that resulted in a breakaway from the guy coming out of the box. Its that kind of lack of awareness that I see preventing him from going to the next level. I'm pretty confident that play was SDA, hard to tell with no replays. But nonetheless, I found that he just tries forcing low probability plays way to often that more often than not turn into turnovers. He did overall look decent today, but I think this tournament was overall a let down for him IMO.

All n all, I think Robby looks exactly how he looked last year. I watched every game except yesterdays. He clearly has more talent than anyone I saw in this tournament. from an offensive perspective I actually think Roberston will get better as he rises up the ranks. Lots of the chances he created this tournament were entirely from his own creativity. I think if you surround him with equally creative players that can distribute the puck on a tee for him, this kid will score in bunches.

He is just an elite finisher, and he is always looking to shoot that puck. He has to have the biggest shoot first mentality I've ever seen from a Leafs prospect.

I really think this kid should eventually play with Marner. Mitch is essentially a 30x better version of SDA. He would get a shit ton of space with Mitch and Auston, and 2 elite level disher's to feed him all day. I'm not sure his strength is where it needs to be to play consistently in the NHL yet, but who knows. I guess we will just have to wait and see how he does at main camp. If he can prove that he can stay on his skates throughout camp he is has to be strongly considered on the left side in our top 6
He got pissed at the bullshit don't blame him . IAM sure if it was a meaningful game he would have waited for his opportunity

The only reason I bring it up is because he did this same stuff all year last year with the Marlies as well. He didn't pick his spots last year, and he didn't pick his spot today. The intensity is exactly where it needs to be, he just needs to use his brain a bit more. We can't applaud him for sticking up for himself just because this game meant nothing. If he did that in the show, he would have cost the Leafs a point, and more than likely would be suspended. It was a pretty dirty cross check TBH.

SDA looked pretty slick this tournament. He looks poised for a big year for the Marlies. He seperated himself from the likes of Gogolev and Abramov at least in this short tournament.

I liked seeing the fire from Robertson. Too bad it cost them the game, but it entertained me.

McKenna I think will be a pretty good find. I don't know about NHL potential but I think he'll be a legit good AHL player.

To this point I don’t think we’ve seen a very aggressive, belligerent Robertson at the NHL level when it comes to the rough stuff. Granted he was super young in the bubble and even at the start of the last season. If he’s taking cues from Shanahan and Dubas and turning himself into a “killer instinct”, then I love it. He’ll do anything to be a player for the Leafs.

If he finds himself in the top 6 hopefully it helps motivate the rest of them to follow suit, especially with how often they'll need to get into scrums to protect him. Matthews might laugh off some plug trying to get under his skin but I'd hope he would jump in if it's a 5'8 kid getting targeted.

Abranov is he type of player you don’t notice until you look at the score sheet and you say wow when you realize he had three or four points
I watched a guy for a couple of years who did the same thing
His name is Huberdeau

A smallish, young player, who has been touted as having some serious upside, showing a ‘don’t f with me’ attitude...I’ll take that.

With all the PTO's I don't think Robertson has much of a chance to make the lineup out of training camp. I will even go so far and say Robertson will be cut early so he can get early start with the Marlies training camp

Unless they run into a few forward injuries - hes going to be with the Marlies. If he dominates the AHL he could very well come up for the last 1/4 of the season and be a legitimate option in the playoffs.

Honestly - if he has a great season and is useful to them in the playoffs that is a big win.

This is how i see it and I think how management wants it to play out. After the trade deadline he’s brought up and only brought him when there are a few injuries during the season.
