They'd better play him or the doobler is just ruining his development even more than he already did not letting him play in Europe :sarcasm:
Funny thing is, I used to respect that poster until the words 'Doobler' were uttered.

I don't even disagree with him that the two prospects would have been better off playing (I think that's obvious), but the way he's gone about it as if the two players careers are now ruined is quite pathetic.

I definitely want to see Liljegren with Muzzin

Muzzin is playing on our 2nd pair taking the kind of QOC and ZS that implies

I don't want Liljegren doing that as he acclimatizes to the league, I also want Muzzin to continue doing what he's doing since it helps us win games

Liljegren either needs to play with Lehtonen, Dermott or Sandin on the 3rd pair

He should for sure. But, Bogosian is so perfect that role.

He may be but my default position is to put the kid with the upside in the best possible position to succeed

Bogo may be here on our bottom pair for a couple of years, if things go well Liljegren could be in our top 4 for a decade

This is only including the guys who have started so far.

Notes: I removed O'Connell from the list as a legit prospect.

I don't see any Marlie games. Thanks for the info you folks are providing.

*Has Nick R put on any weight or grown in size? Is the 165 out of date?
*Has Brazeau's skating improved, is there legitimate potential there?
*Is there a sleeper on this team, someone who you think may blossom into something much better than expected?
In terms of low-key sleepers so far, i'd say:

  • Rubins: looks close to being a bottom pair NHLer. Jack Han mentioned that Leafs brass is high on him and he personally sees NHL potential. I might be overhyping him, but I honestly think he could play minutes for the Leafs right now, despite being used in a limited role for the Marlies. For a 6'4" guy his skating is great in all directions and he handles the puck better/makes quicker decisions than a guy like Kivihalme (but takes less risks overall). His short game is NHL caliber. There's nothing lacking in his play outside of the o-zone. The biggest surprise has been seeing him use his size better in front of the net and engaging in scrums. He's starting to realize his size.
  • McKenna: has been very quiet, but there's obvious potential. He's my sleeper for this year. Currently playing 4th line minutes with role players but he has the highest skill of any recent AHL contract signee (have yet to see McCourt) and with better linemates/opportunity, I see a deadly PP weapon who has a knack for getting to the open areas. He's handled physicality much better than expected.

As for Brazeau, I would be shocked if he ever becomes an NHL player. His skating looks to be improved in some aspects, but it's still so far away from NHL caliber that I don't see how he makes up the ground. It doesn't help that he floats and plays disengaged physically. At this point he's an opportunistic goal scorer with a net front presence, but every other aspect of his game is behind the eight ball.

Rubins looks like another Marincin to me.

Which is not a bad thing.

Early on, I remember marincin being absolutely afraid of physical contact and then would make a bad decision or ice the puck, but was pretty good at handling the puck or playing defence when he wasn’t pressured. And then the last couple of years, he got more comfortable with physical contact, but did not display the good aspects of his game.

thanks very much for the detailed reply.

So long as he’s on the Marlies and not on the Leafs

Should probably not be a planned top 6 player on a contender, but definitely not someone you scoff at as quality depth when injuries hit.

Not someone I am overly motivated to keep around but he may even be able to work his way into a #7 role next year if Sandin is not ready.

2 more games left for Ovchinnikov with Thursday being the last one. We'll see afterwards if his year is done or Leafs bring him over to the Marlies. Selfishly I'd like him on the Marlies.
