We could.. we'd just suck defensively and be stuck in our zone. LOL
Looking back at our drafts... with full hindsight, the only real time in recent years, where there was opportunity to pick bigger, more rounded guys, was the 2020 draft, with really just Guhle and Schneider as the options. Maybe this past draft there were some guys, if we kept our 1st round pick... but really, there hasn't been a lot of opportunity for us in recent years, even though I completely agree with you.
2017 and 2016 drafts we picked a bunch of defensive fridges, and they all busted on us... not a reason for not picking them going forward of course.
Even if you look at 2017, and Rasanen as our second pick... there isn't a singular D picked after him at the 59th pick, that you'd say.. oh, we should have picked him instead.
2016 Korshkov was just a bad pick... guys picked just after him include Andrew Peeke (would have been great to have), of course DeBrincat, Kyrou...
2018 Sandin and Durzi were good picks for their positions.
2019 we picked Robertson... he's outperformed his draft spot, and you can't really say.. hey we should have drafted X instead.
I agree with all of this, I was pumping the Schneider pick hard. I think the only thing that would have made it interesting is Lundell or Askarov.
Korshkov boggled my mind.
When we took Durzi, I was pushing for Morzov a bit more but Durzi hasn't been bad.
