So were they trying to get him out of the game?

That does nothing to help his development.

I think he only misses 10 minutes.

IDK why he decided to fight, but given he was on the 4th line anyways, he probably only missed a couple of shifts... And worth it since he was able to get us a PP.

I’m not watching tonight’s game, but what I have seen out of him this year hasn’t been very impressive. I don’t think he has a point this year.

Without a doubt the Marlies have been carried by Petruzzelli and the top line.

The defense has also been fairly respectable given they were missing Benn, Mete, and Dahlstrom for most of the games. Liljegren has certainly helped, and Benn is better than some of the ECHL caliber guys we had to use.

Most other guys you hope can be better.

Remember not to believe everything you read online.

Sample Size: 2 ushl games each 2 years ago and the Dartmouth/Harvard game today.

Miller = d+3 season. Fusco = d+4. Fusco played on the 2nd line pairing/2nd pp unit while Miller is on the top unit 5v5 and 2nd PP unit. Both are not on the pk and look pretty small out on the ice.

In one sentence to describe him, Fusco is an offensive dman. His puck moving is okay. When there's an easy option available he can get it to his guy. He can do "too much" at times. E.g. for an exit, rather than opting for a pass or to skate it out the zone, he decided to deke an incoming forechecker and then temporarily lost the puck. He tries ambitious plays despite not having the tools to pull it off. He has decent skating in terms of straight line speed and mobility for the ncaa, but it would be nice if he could improve in those aspects. His positional awareness offensively is fine. He doesn't over-extend his pinches. His positioning is okay. I saw some plays where he would back into forecheckers to take the puck. For puck retrieval, he likes to wait for opposing forecheckers to take the puck first because his skating is just okay, John Fusco has an aggressive mindset. Developmentally, he's behind Niemela, Villeneuve, and Hollowell.

Joe Miller is a quick strike offense forward. He has good puck skills such as stick handling and probably has the skill to make great passes, but he isn't deployed as a distributor at Harvard and was not used as a distributor in the USHL two years ago. When he does have the puck, he tends to make the right play. He is the F3 (someone who ends plays by shooting the puck). He prefers cutting to the net to strike, but I feel his timing is off. I don't think miller is great at finding open space like Toyberg or manipulating it like Voit. This where he needs more detail. His skating is okay, but for a guy as small as him, he needs to be faster or more deceptive. If this happens, points will pour. He has the potential to have an extremely good transition game, but it's not there at the moment. He is pretty good in the power play department. I don't see him as a triggerman/bumper despite his moniker as a goal scorer. He's more effective on the half boards and at the point. He tends to distribute it quite well and he has the edges to pivot in the open space (which he cannot do 5v5). Today, he had a bad defensively play where he was responsible for the point. While he was floating near the middle of the defensive zone, the opposing assignment decided to cut to the net to score. That should have been his man.

Not a good night for the Gophers tonight though. 6-2 Ohio State, Cooley/Snug/Knies on the ice for the last goal. No points for their line tonight.

Knies had a decent game and two points (goal and assist) the last game they played. But he’s not playing in a dominant fashion.

Cooley is such a puck hog though, it doesn’t help their line.
Knies will never succeed with Cooley as his line mate. Just watch the WJC for an example. Cooley is a puck hog and doesn’t compliment knies.

ASSIST MINTEN on the pp. He fakes a shot and finds the backdoor.

Minten got 1 more secondary assist on the pp. He’s won 2 offensive zone pp faceoffs. He’s the best faceoff guy since gauthier.

Now that my nba betting is settled....
There is tremendous detail in minten's game. He helps facilitates transitions by finding open space just for zone exits. If a dman is being forechecked, he will find open space to ensure something as small but impactful as a zone exit is successful. He's the only prospect I've seen do this. He provides a lot of support to his f1. It may be that Minten is the only center prospect I've seen intently, but on the other hand, I have seen F2s like Schingoethe, Tverberg (More effective as a F1) or Nikita Grebyonkin who have not given their teammates this much support. His decision-making is refined and shows experience. Minten works very hard for loose pucks and if he sees an opposing player with puck near him, he will take the puck away. I don't think Minten has any high end skills in skating, passing or shooting, but he uses his exceptional IQ to utilize what he has to impact the game.

There was also a play on the pp where minten badly mishandles a puck. Rather than give up or skate back towards the defensive zone, he quickly lifts the stick of the incoming opposing player from gaining control of the puck and it allows the point to recover the puck.

Minten looks fun with Stankovan. Lisowsky assist.

Might be a little bit early to claim that. He had a 45.7% last year.

Interestingly enough, Gauthier wasn't great at faceoffs in junior either. Abramov was a better faceoff guy than Gauthier, and SDA had better numbers than him too.

Yeah I spoke a little early, but Minten is doing very well so far. Actually they are all similar in their D+2. For some reason, I thought Gauthier was good in junior at faceoffs. Abramov's numbers were higher because he only played 25 games. Whoops just realized it's a home game for kamloops too.

Thanks for sharing. Minten was definitely lauded for his IQ when he was drafted, it's great to read his game is so well refined. That IQ and awareness gives him the potential to be pro-ready sooner than later, depending on if he's physically ready and his skating is NHL-calibre.

That being said how his offensive skills translate will really gauge his impact at the next level. Ensuring he gets the opportunity to develop that would be best.

I would hope the Leafs have interest in his development.

And getting tossed early in a game doesn't do anything for his future.
Of course they do. It is Syracuse that doesn't. Getting tossed from the game was a result of fighting off the faceoff.

Marlies win 4-3 in OT after losing a 3-1 lead in the third.
Abruzzese with the winner after a great defensive play by Abramov who had 2 assists. Anderson 2 goals. Hoffenmeyer 2 assists. Steeves, SDA and Villeneuve with assists each.
Petruzzelli continues be a story with 37 saves
Did you have eyes on Abramov?
Sneaky good and dark horse climber in the prospect pool.

I think Abramov's a guy who until he starts putting up offensive numbers, we should temper our excitement, but he seems to be really responsible and good positionally so if he can start to put up those points he should definitely be a fast climber.

That said, he made a great pass to Jordie Benn for his goal yesterday:

And did really well on the OT winner:

We have to remember what this guy did in Victoriaville. He was a one man scoring machine for them.

Then in the AHL, he was subjected to the typical 4th line treatment that some of our better young prospects have to go through before moving their way up the lineup. Brooks went through the same thing and didn't put up much production either, but it made him a better two-way player.

The hope for Abramov is to become a strong two-way player who can fit on what is currently the Jarnkrok line. He was solid last year in more of a defensive role and now he will get more offensive opportunities to round out his two-way game.
