Valmaki playing for Arizona

Adam Ruzicka LW 6' 4" 220lbs
2017 109 OA pick
NHL last yr 44 gp 20 pts

Dustin Wolf
he should be in the NHL this year, if you think Woll's numbers were great this year , he has been doing it since he was drafted.

Pelletier
98 pts 99 gp in the AHL
NHL 24gp 7 pts
NHL ready this yr

Coronato
Harvard 72 pts 68 gp
Possibly NHL debut this yr

Zary
58 pts 69 gp

Poirier D
41 pts 66 gp

I only named there top 7 prospects

If Treliving has draft picks he will find us a variety of player
Nothing outside the first round besides maybe wolf and poirier is a huge defensive liability. A lot of the flames prospects like kerins, francis are playing in the echl.

So is this accurate at all?
Has his size increased to 6', 190 lbs.
Why wasn't he in the playoffs line-up?

10. Ryan Tverberg, RW – Toronto Marlies (AHL)

Age: 21
Ht/Wt: 6-0/190
Drafted: 2020 round seven 213th overall by Toronto Maple Leafs

Another prospect on the rise is Toronto native Ryan Tverberg. After three NCAA seasons at the University of Connecticut, the Leafs have signed him to his ELC and he will play out the season in the AHL with the Marlies. Through the first six games he is still looking for his first point, his game is more about the physical play than the offensive production.

Tverberg is a heat-seeking missile, throwing his body at the opposition without the puck, and freight-training it toward the goal when he does have the puck. The 21-year-old will play a full season with the Marlies next year and could eventually play his way into a bottom-six NHL energy player.
Just going on what I heard that he was very underwhelming in 7 games for the Marlies and was a healthy scratch in their playoffs.

The stuff outside of the 1st round is almost entirely dependent on the scouting department as a GM doesn't see the lower tier prospects play except maybe in some tournament games. Its still up to the GM to assemble a group who can have some level of success but he doesn't build the list.

Kerins and Francis were both taken outside the top 140 so the fact they longshots isn't really a surprise. I'm not saying Tree is a strong drafter but he might do quite well with the much larger Leaf scouting department. He did have some good 2nd rounders but was that him or the Director of scouting that made that happen?

Looking forward to seeing what he can do with more minutes in the AHL
I always viewed Ovchinikov as a long term prospect. But there is no denying his raw skillset. Time will tell if it is all put together at one point or not, but I am still very bullish on him. Wouldn't be surprised if we see him take a major step forward this season.

He still represents a long shot to become an NHL'er, but for whatever reason I have always felt really good about him. His speed and skill are next level IMO. If he can find a way to adapt to the North American game, and put on some size, he may have a chance

a 6'2" 210 lbs weakling?
height/weight doesnt make you strong, or strong on your skates

I saw him get pushed off the puck by d-men under 6' and 180 soaking wet every time i watched him play. only saw 6-7 games, but, when he's constantly getting moved by smaller d-men, yea, he's weak.

Perhaps he doesn't have his man strength yet. Not everyone gets that by age 20, especially if still growing.

Certainly, hope that is the case, and it is unlike Holl who had good size but seemed to lack strength.

With the Leafs Cap situation, I think they have to audition the heck out of their prospects and they need a master puzzle handler to derive successful lines which includes some. They can't just default to scrap heap NHL hangers on.

Their prospect pool, alas, does not look great, but we should still hold out hope that Niemela might be a surprise. Seems to have put up some points in the playoffs, and I had heard some positive comments about him impressing.
I dont consider anyone to have their 'man' strength until they are about 26-28.
ask anyone in that age range, if they were as strong at 20 as they were at 28, dont many/any say yes ...and pushing a bar up and down isnt the strength i'm talking about, it full body maturity and knowing how to use it too.

Holl must have been extremely easy to play against at 20-25 then ... ;)

No idea why we are chewing up contract spots for a couple of Russian goalies who should not be in NA next year and still have a lot to prove in Russia before earning one.

It's not like we risk losing them any time soon.
The contracts wont count if they are loaned do they?

Moldenhauer slowed down in the second half.

Plus he is not a very dynamic player who mostly just projects as a solid two-way winger on a 3rd line (or maybe can do enough to play at center if things go well). Solid but unspectacular doesn't get many people excited... Even though he is a similar caliber and upside prospect to Minten.
Grabbing a third liner in the third round is a big win.

What's the update on Minten?

Can honestly say I didn't hear his name once over the past season. Usually there's at least trade speculation of the Leafs top prospects.

Very mediocre. He feasted on the PP through the season but didn't really stand out 5 on 5 offensively, or in the playoffs or memorial cup for Kamloops. The games I saw he was solid overall but didn't stand out like the other top prospects.

Another WHL year and likely a shot at Team Canada for the WJCs, and we'll see how he does. He's only turning 19 next week. He's pretty young.

Yes, his age is most likely a factor.

Thanks

Unless he improves his skating I would say his future is in Europe or the minors.

Last few years are feeling a bit like 2016/2017 all over again (albeit with less draft capital)... three years from now, our prospect pool is really going to feel the ill effects of going for players with minimal upside like Minten, Cowan, etc. Could have taken swings for guys like Hutson, Gulyayev, Cristall to revamp the pool - guess that's too much to ask for
