Do you guys think that they should ELC him this summer, so he can develop with the Marlies, or even the Growlers to start if his game needs some polish?

They've given ELC's to Voit, Kressler and Villeneuve in recent memory, is he any worse of a gamble than they are?
Ovchinnikov?

Ya absolutely, I'd love for the Leafs to take hold of his development. Unfortunately I just don't see that happening. Extremely rare for Russian developed prospects to make the jump overseas to slum it out in the minors.

The only thought that gives me hope with this plan is that maybe he has a jaded perspective of how he is being developed in Russia at this point. He was noted as being upset with not even being invited to Russia's WJC preliminary camp, and I cannot imagine he is thrilled being back in a league he is clearly too good for.

The other hurdle is his contract status, which I am not entirely sure where he stands on that. If he is under contract in Russia, he has to fulfill the terms of the agreement. Unless he and his club have a mutual parting of ways. Not impossible by any means, but it's just another road block he may face. Wherein, should he express interest in leaving his current club and they deny it, I can only imagine the potential backlash he will face the following year. Maybe an entire year of healthy scratches.

All of that would factor into his decision to come to NA. But I do hope it happens at some point personally.

Yes. I don't think any more time in the MHL is going to do him any good and with his treatment so far you can't trust Novosibirsk to give him any meaningful minutes even next season. I think he could play for the Marlies next year and if he's not quite ready the Growlers will certainly give him lots of ice time.

According to Sportsnet, the Marlies don’t play again until the 16th.

That can’t be right, can it?

Not good enough for the KHL though...

Funny enough Ov's entire team is in the -ves for +/-, except for 3 players. Ov who is team-leading +2, and 2 other guys who are at 0. Safe to say he's playing on a gong show of an MHL roster.

I had thought that there was some discussion on Amirov, and potential health concerns, but I can't seem to find it... or something... Anyway, here is the relevant bits. If somehow, this posting is offside, please Mods message me and let me know why. Thanks.

Ugh. The severe injury was never his shoulder. Evidently the issue is concussion related. Lingering effects from a conscussion received in preseason. Not good. Not good at all.

Holmberg looked intriguing. Barely played but looks like an impactful player here with a bit of a surprising power element. His skating is still questionable but it has come miles. Used to think he had zero chance with his skating 3 years ago.

If he comes over to the Marlies post-SHL playoffs, he essentially has no competition for a fill-in C job if injuries occur.

Knies-Beniers-Abruzzese as a line will be super interesting to watch and has the potential to torch this watered down tournament.

This first game against China will be fun. China has a bunch of players from different countries playing for them.

USA -2.5 goal favorites

Knies (anytime goal scorer) at +200 looks like good value

Ufa is back in action for a 'test match' but Rodion Amirov is not playing. Maybe it's Covid related but haven't heard any news on him.

Just me or is it super weird the non-Chinese players on the Chinese team had their names changed to the Mandarin version n the team roster.

Eg. Jeremy Smith is Shimisi Jieruimi
One time highly regard prospect and Ontario boy Ethan Werek is Wei Ruike

UFA's coach just said he doesn't think Amirov will play in the team's playoff due to injury..

You have to wonder what's going on with this kid. Is it his shoulder or a concussion? Possibly health? He looked so good in KHL pre-season. Hopefully he can get healthy soon.

What a bummer.

Must be pretty serious since their playoffs don't start until March 4th. Hopefully they get eliminated early so he has a chance to come over to NA.
