First time in a long time we had any players on team Canada and it was a flop.

The team was fine, our goalie wasn't great.

We outplayed Czech today, a team that took the US to OT and 7 shooters deep in the shootout.

Not sure how far along, but I've heard TOR is right there in the hunt to sign Barrie Colts captain Connor Punnett, presumably to an ELC given the timing.

I'd imagine that waits until the point when contracts signed defer to next year (March some time?). Otherwise the deal would begin now and count towards the contract limit.

I saw him at the prospect tournament for Detroit and a couple of OHL games, Strong, good size, physical and competitive very little offence and can skate but won't standout in the NHL. I think Marlies. Maybe a good 4-5 in the future?

regarding Niemela:

“I have really liked his game. He’s been playing big minutes as a 21-year-old defenceman. I like his progression. I think he’s understanding that he’s reliable, he’s smart so that allows him to be positionally be sound,” Gruden said.

Nice to hear Gruden who's been an assistant coach in the NHL for a while and could possibly be looked at as an NHL head coach in the near future talk this highly of Niemela.

Hirvonen seems to be getting better from his eye injury. Gruden and the Leafs still seem high on him as an NHL future.

Positive reports on Ryan Tverberg as well.

With Treliving here our defense is going to look alot different in 2 yrs.
All I will say is the front of our net there will be a battle opposing players will end up on there ass.

I'm high on Roni Hirvonen as well. He has a game that can translate well as a third line C who is defensively responsible but he has the hands to be able to create for others and score a bit.
