Minten on the PP... I mean... all that space, and he passes... take the space, and shoot.

Leafs need to look into signing or drafting this Owen Allard kid. Been passed up on two drafts no?

6’2 LH Shot can play both the wing and Center.

Minten just doesn't seem that good. He has some hype as a guy who made the NHL this year and being named captain, but he doesn't play at an overly high level. He's mostly just there and won't hurt you much

He's definitely more of a cerebral player .. like Tavares but without elite skill. That's his high floor basically, as you describe. His ability to play in the top 9 solely depends on how his offensive game progresses

Minten has been pretty bad today IMO. Looks a bit too pedestrian with the puck on his tape. Has had a couple tough plays in his own end as well. Definitely needs to be better.

Cowan has had a decent game I've thought. Still looks like he's trying to do a bit too much with the puck. He's just gotta stick to the basics.

really not concerned about point totals for either player. Although it is nice to see, it really means f*** all long term from a development standpoint. It's just nice to see these guys play in high pressure tournaments like this

I knew he didn't have elite skill, but I'm seriously questioning if he even has NHL skill. I think we can safely say he will still end up playing in the NHL thanks to his IQ and size, but he's looking more and more like a 4th line defensive specialist

He looks like a second round pick

Seems like Minten is being too deferential, playing on the wing and with more skilled players. He's doing all the simple "team" things but not adding any value at all, at least in these first two games.

Noticed Cowan battling along the boards in the Finland game but not really today.

Definitely two snoozer games if you're watching strictly for these prospects.

That’s what I thought when he was up with us to start the year. His defensive positioning and poke check are really good but the play would die on his stick every time. I wouldn’t mind a 4th line pure defensive specialist though but I’m also finding it hard to imagine him becoming more than that though the physical tools are there

Problem is the Leafs have already committed 4 years to David Kampf to fill that role as a defense only 4C. I think now would be a good time to sell high on Minten

I am not moving players because of Kampf.
Kampf is not good enough of player to be impacting other player's future on the team.
If anything I am selling "high" on Kampf before people figure out he isn't worth 2.4 M.

Cowan’s been trying to do too much all day here

… and benched the final 4-5 minutes.

Beautiful B.C.
Why are you so upset? It’s prospect discussion. Are we only supposed to pump their tires? All fair criticism.
1) Your speculation about a teenage boys confidence levels are not criticism, its speculation.

2) There are game day threads available for the little thoughts that pop into your head about the game as it happens.

3) This isn't a whiny thread, its one of the only feel good threads we have on the leafs board and it's nice coming in here and not listening to people bitch and moan about how awful everything is about everything related to this team.

4) I'm not upset, we just won a game 10-0 as a nation and we have the leafs to watch later today. It's a good day.
