Hildebeast been as good as the stats and a couple Hockey News articles seem to suggest, anyone seen a bunch of him?

Anyone? I feel like this got lost in the Team Canada Leafs on roster day. Do we have something there?

He has. Compare his stats to Jones and Petruzzelli to get a sense of how strong he's been because defensively, the Marlies aren't exactly a powerhouse. Goaltenders are a bit voodoo so I don't know what it means for his NHL potential but he has been great every time I've seen him and from all the articles I've read. He makes a lot of hard saves look easy, which is what really stands out to me. He's looks huge in nets and moves like he's Sorokin.

Thanks. Havent really been excited about a Leaf goalie prospect since Riemer was playing ECHL. Seems like I should have been about Woll, but the Hildebeast is just so interesting with the size.

Success in Sweden last year, good training camp, great start in AHL.. let’s hope.

Speaks to the progression Easton has had since being drafted that he was able to make the team Canada WJC roster as an 18 year old after not even being an invite to the summer development camp and then goin onward to having an "uneven" camp this past week where an exec described them "needing more from him".

Of course it would have been great for Cowan to have lit up camp, but that really speaks volumes to the player we have here IMO.

Making the squad as an 18 year old is an accomplishment in and of itself. To do it after having a less than good camp is kind of wild. Clearly we aren't the only ones who are over the moon with this kid.

Excited to see what he and Mints can do for our country! I am so fired up!

Congrats boys!

I was excited for Ian Scott before injuries derailed him.

Free Cheers for Fraser and Easton!

:partytime:

Cowan looks like BIEBS, must be the "519 area code" vibe
And look at Fraser's hand size compared to EC

Someone I trust in scouting circles told me that Easton Cowan was a lock for the team entering camp. I found that pretty surprising due to being an 18 year old and not having much previous Hockey Canada experience. Seems he has a strong reputation with the right people.

Plays for London, not too surprising. But it's not like he hasn't earned it with the start of his OHL season. But for an 18 year old that's really impressive.

He's earned it, was more shocked that Hockey Canada viewed him as a lock (it wasn't an opinion by the person I was talking to, it was one he had heard through people connected to Hockey Canada). Hockey Canada tends to be pretty political at times, often to their own detriment. The fact he was an 18 year old, combined with he never played the U-17 challenge, Hlinka or U-18's usually makes it an uphill battle. I don't think any long-time Leafs/Team Canada fan will forget the time they left off a 19 year old Connor Brown who was leading the OHL in points.

This is true, no doubt the politics are real and it's a 19-year old tournament. The kid definitely knows the right people but it also has to speak to his attitude and work ethic to get in such good favour.
