I guess that $80k is US dollars.

So you could raise a family in Calgary with that.
Wouldn't be living well but could rent a 2-3 bedroom place.

2-3 bedroom condos in Calgary you can pull for 250-350k mortgage

Minimum salary in the NHL in Calgary or Edmonton and you live well for the most part.

Remember the Milkman?

So in order to live in Toronto what odd jobs do the current Marlies have?

Niemela, $80k a year in Toronto ... (we'll exclude his signing bonus for now) what kind of jobs do the Marlies have in the off season?

Why would you exclude his signing bonus, it's part of his compensation?

He makes a signing bonus of $85k + $80k if he plays in the minors all year. That's $USD 165k a year for Niemela. He shares an apartment with Hirvonen, also making $USD 165k a year, and you think they have an issue with housing?

At $USD 165k per year (approx $CAD 224k), there is no need for an off season job, and the idea is a bit ridiculous.

I thought I did okay but if we think 165k USD is poverty wages...oh boy, I look bad haha.

And they're decent places.

Just have to be aware of the fees. $300 if you get something is okay, $650 for the privilege of living there no thanks.

You only get the signing bonus for up to 3 years.

Lots of career minor leaguers.

Why are signing bonuses limited to 3 years? Are you confusing those and performance bonuses?
On ELSC.

I wasn't clear, but I was referring to ELSC.

Obviously, if the player is on a one-way deal no issue.

I believe minimum AHL salary is US$52k, now if the team gives them US$100k it's likely a livable amount for a player and family in Toronto if they don't expect to buy a house.

Someone on the london knights thread said the Cowen liked like he was doing a 120 in a 60 zone.
They had the scrimmage games this week.
London Knights play next weekend.

KHL regular season started and doesn’t look like either of our Russian goalie prospect got into game one.

I am fairly high on Grebyonkin. He seems to be the whole package, and I would be surprised if he isn't a top 9 forward on the Leafs in 2 years. I suspect he will be in the AHL next year, and then make the jump to the NHL the following year. I think lots of people are sleeping on him based on the prospect rankings I see circulating. Even when I see Leaf Prospect rankings in isolation, he is ranked too low.
