Ooof, c'mon guys - I'm hardly a Scheifele-stan, I think the guy is overrated by why on earth would the Jets entertain the thoughts of Brent Burns or Jeff Petry for a #1 center in his prime and with two good years of contract left? As if Burns straight up wasn't bad enough, the Jets have to take on $9.45 million left of Labanc's contract for a guy with 6 points this year? And unless the "young defenseman" is Alex Romanov...which I doubt it is...why on earth would the Jets deal Scheifele for Petry?

Scheifele will not fetch a Byram or Dobson-level stud with 10+ years of prime ahead of them but the Jets sure as hell aren't going to dump him for a mid-30's declining blueliner with $18-24 million left of cap hit to drag alog the next 3 seasons. Wanting to pivot and make a change does not mean they want to give you their #1 center for a declining salary issue. Unless you want to take Blake Wheeler too.
The guy is in his prime? You listen to an interview with the member of the Winnipeg media, they spend 20 minutes discussing everything wrong with the player. Then they want a crazy return for Scheifele. Makes no sense.

Can you get a #1 dman for a centre that doesn't know where his own end of the rink is?
Not all #1 D are the same.

AND, that C that does not know where his own end of of the rink is, has 6 consecutive seasons of PPG. Is a top 15 point guy in the league over that span.

Wonder if the Flames could get him for Jusso Valimaki. Valimaki has been a bust so far but still has tons of potential as a top pairing dman. I think he can benefit from starting with a new team.

Monahan + Valimaki for Scheifele?

Monahan steps in as #2C to replace Marks shoes and Valimaki could emerge into a top 4 dman for them for many years.

Jets have 4 top 4 defensemen already and 2 more that may break in the near future. Unfortunately none of them (except maybe Morrissey and that's arguable) are top 2 and that's one of the Jets problems.

Scheifele doesn't go anywhere unless it fixes that need (which is unlikely)

Has he always been this defensively poor? Or is that a recent thing?

In the bits of watches of him the past two seasons he just does not seem to care at all about the defensive end of the rink

Monahan has been stepping into the press box and the medical room this year so he's not stepping into 2C with 23 points in 60 games.

I could see a fit on NYI, but would the Jets be looking for a C for C exchange like Barzal?

Jets fans I think are split on the return they would like, both generally can be described as win now return Vs futures return.

Win now would be best RHD or centre we can get.

Futures would be prospects & picks.

I dont think he gets a legit 1D honestly.

Maybe a young Dman with the upside to be a 1D, but not a Dman already established to be among the best in the game.

Scheifele's game has fallen off a bit the last couple years, his defensive game has always been a disaster as well. His cap hit is really nice, but only 2 years left as well.

I do think he's going to get traded this summer but I think it'll be for a package return likely focused around a good young player.

Scheifele isn’t getting a true #1 DMan. Our best hope is a 1-1 for someone in the realm of Trouba.
Take the pairing of Morrissey and Trouba. Neither was a top pairing guy but they gelled so well that they played like one. I’d be happy with a guy like that as true top pairing guys are drafted and developed.
Best case Ontario is Chevy makes a few moves and gathers a few extra picks this off-season and drafts a bunch of DMen with upside in the 2nd and later rounds in hopes one pans out.

The Defenseman would need to be one of the top ten in the league or in their prime.

I want a haul of prospects and picks for Scheifele. But if it's a top D-man, I would think Quinn Hughes would do the trick. But think he'll be moved to a proven contender in need of a 1C.

Ironically I do see Scheifele in San Jose.

This post reminds me of all the leaf fans losing their mind when people said Tavares would be 3C on edm or pitts. I’d even be willing to guess you were one of them, yet here you are making silly claims
Hardly, not a leaf fan. Common sense and logic supports my claim. Sometimes that lacks on here son.

If you are in win now mode why would you trade a 1C when you need centers?

Hate it initially, but just for fun -

how about Carlson and Eller for Scheifele?

Id see the context as in, Caps would go after Burns or Klingberg or another "cheaper" option for 1D themselves to make a huge splash in the offseason, if they get swept out again.

Ovie-Kuzy-Wilson
Mantha-Scheifele-Oshie
CMM-Backstrom-Sheary

Would make a pretty interesting top9

No thanks on trading Hughes.

Your can have Tyler Myers.

Nurse for Scheifele?
Not with that contract. Jets could not fit Nurse under the CAP. Not to mention he would be the 2nd pairing LHD. And he is not an answer to the Jets terrible defensive play/awareness. Not what the Jets need.

I wonder if he goes to Nashville as they are loaded on D like always and could use a #2 centre. Schiefele would fit in their system and be forced to work on his defensive game.

Scheifele for Carrier one for one.

If the Jets decide to trade Scheifele, they are for sure not looking to get older. It would be a move to re-group around a younger group of players.

They would not get a #1D (which are rare). If it's a D in return, it would be someone like a Pulock (as an example).

Otherwise, if they move him it's also a possibility for picks and just ready or soon to be ready prospects (C and RHD).
