Player Discussion: Mark S Discussion

Here's my expanded take on Scheifele potentially getting traded.

For starters, he should take a step back and understand Winnipeg is as good as it's going to get for him. But on the other hand needs to understand that it's never about him, it's a team game.

But to continue on our end of things, we need to move on from him too. I find he's getting way too greedy both on and off the ice. But also, he's way over his head in so many ways.

But the upside to trading him is that we could extend Dubois and potentially get one giant large haul for him that'll be valuable for our future. I do think Scheifele has what it takes to play up to forty, but I don't think he'll be the same player by the age of forty. And the only places I see him getting traded to is a proven contender.

I think if he does get traded it's either Washington, Philadelphia, Boston, NYR, or Carolina. But the ask would need to be big which in that case would be difficult to move him. So like I said, he might as well stay here. But if we can trade him, great.

I do think he gets traded because his contract is way too valuable for a player at his skill-set.

Pretty ballsy talk from someone that's under contract for two more years and really doesn't have a say. Clearly he wants out if he publicly says this.
I think he wants the Jets to come to him and tell him how important he is, he basically wants them to beg him to stay.

At this point the quickest way the Jets can change the culture with this team would to be to ship his ass out of town and point to him as an example of what happens when you want to put yourself before the team.

I view the comments made by Connor, Stats, Dubois, and Schief as the writing on the wall that this is Schief's last season here.

I think he has had a trade request after the blowup from a few years ago (just my speculation).

I wonder if a replacement F or a D would be the priority?

We still have a great roster with or without Scheifele. What we need is to heal the locker room and find a coach that they can unite behind, but Scheifele's statement tells me he's not interested in being a part of that. If he can't have it his way, he wants out. We will never win if the locker room can't get along - his value is at its peak now, we should be able to get a massive haul for the problem child and probably still do better next year anyway.

Those comments by Sheif are so glaringly in contrast to the rest of the teams attitude its shocking. PLD , Connor, Ehlers , Dillon ....are all admiting their part in the failed year and saying things need to change. Shelf seems content with his play and his style of hockey. It just affirms my opinion of where the locker room issues are centered around.

He wants the Jets to guarantee him top line minutes, top linemates, a 1st PP line role, and the ability to continue to half ass his way through games like he did all this season.

I want him to take Wheeler with him on his way out the damn door.

Good Bye
Good Luck
Good Riddance

the writing has been on the wall since 2019 that scheif isnt commited to this team and was leveraging his status to play lazy hockey without consequences. This is 100% on ownership/management/coaching for turning a blind eye to the issue for nearly 3 years. Its ruined the culture of the organization. Instead of contending for the Stanley Cup they lowered the bar and were happy just to make the playoffs. There better be big changes this offseason to make up for this wasted year. New coaching staff is inevitable... and they should shop Scheif around and pull the trigger if they get a solid return.

So long and thanks for all the fish.

We always need to hear the objectiveposter chime in and tell it like it is.

I honestly don't see much of a difference between what PLD said about being here in the future and what Scheifele said. Both said they want to see where and what the organization is going to do before they decide.

This is what I believe 100%

Yup add JoMo who kept talking about needing everything to be about the team in his last interview. Clearly some want to see the team succeed but Mark sounds in it for hi.self and his next contract.

The difference is one is a pending RFA and one is part of the leadership group and signed for two more years.

Seems fairly likely there is some beef between Mark & the team/some other players. Mark basically said without saying he might demand a trade.

Well there needs to be a heck of a clearing of the air with Mark and he either gets on board or needs to be traded.

Two weeks ago Kyle Connor said “Yeah, I mean, whether we’re in or out of the playoffs, six games, whatever it is we have left, I don’t think it’s too soon to start building culture, having that right attitude in the group” and Mark Scheifeme says what he did today.. maybe a lot of this makes sense now…

See ya, 55. Your attitude stinks, it has for a while now, and your effort towards your defensive game is as garbage as I’ve seen from a top line forward. You just don’t give a shit, yet you want to see what direction the team is going? We are where we are today at season end in part because of… you.

It’s shame it had to end like this. I’m assuming it’s over. Something has festered here for a while, it seems. And perhaps in typical TNSE/Chevy fashion whatever it is was let go on too long. Something is definitely rotten here and well beyond it’s best before date. This is ugly.
