Player Discussion: Noah Dobson

I just have to ask...

Dobson has been eligible to sign his big bucks extension for over a month now, what's up with this?
Gotta think he's in your long term plans and highest priority, while having proven quite a bit more than the Sanderson/Guhle/Faber's of this world...

They get ready to sign him, then watch the Stadium Series game and think…let’s give it a bit more time.

He's probably asking for the moon (i.e. 10M per) and he fell off significantly towards the end of the season (albeit he was likely overplayed from all of the injuries).

Roy spent a few weeks evaluating the team after his hire before making changes too right?

I've rarely seen an offensive defenseman thrive under his coaching lol. Mind you I mostly watch QJMHL games and maybe its coincidence few defensemen worth a damn offensively ever went to the ramparts....

He also had that notorious dislike of Tyson Barrie in Colorado. So much that he quit after Sakic resigned Barrie and he wanted Barrie gone

Maybe even if Dobson is not traded, maybe, just maybe he gets the message "Hit The Gym Kid, Stop Being A Freaking Marsh-Mellow!"
Kid has all the Talent and plays so passively also has to start making much better decisions with the puck...

His issue goes beyond hitting the gym. He doesn’t know how to use his size and appears to be afraid to. It’s not in his constitution, no matter how strong he can get, to be assertive.

Looking over the verbose NHL injury report, Islanders have the most players out with injury. 30% more than Buffalo. Maybe they need a better pre-game stretch routine.

So let me see if I am grasping the Noah Dobson rumors: Lou is going to trade a 24 year old still maturing defenseman with skill and scoring touch and who exactly is coming in to be the #1-#2 defender??

These rumors have no logic attached. Dobson is not untouchable, but for a team with little youth, an aging and stale roster — trading the one of your top pair guys is not a solution. Trading aging vets would be the solution. Trading expiring contracts — Nelson, Palmieri is part of a solution.

Im not sure why there is so much "trade him" talk on Dobson. That would be a move on par with trading Devon Toews. How many of us are still regretting the piss out of that one? UGH. No. It makes little sense even for Lou who would be making a dreadful mistake by retaining either Nelson or palms at this juncture. Punting on this season is required period full stop. Using the few assets you have in Nelly and Palms to add picks/prospects is the only logical step to take. Accept that the injuries have wreaked havoc and move on toward planning for 2025-26. We will have some cap space to work with, and some holes to fill on the roster.

I am not suggesting a full rebuild. But missing the playoffs this year (and perhaps next) and then coming back stronger for a longer term open window would be better. This team — with Nelson and Palmieri — it is not going to be anything more than a mediocre bubble team and easy first round out. The runs they made are now well in the rear view and no one is getting younger. Time to turn the page — just not by trading your younger players.

Noah regressed in his contract year and people here are pissing in their pants.

Rather than trade him, I’d like to see him playing in the system Roy tweaked last month, having the team tighten up defensively with 5 men low in the D zone. This is more of the type of system Trotz used and Lambert went back to midway last season before he got fired. It’s the system where Dobson had success. Too many times this year Dobson looked like he was caught in between.
