And the habs........................................not so much. Close, but no Serge Savard cigar!
Fresh faces, and ideas are needed....
We’ll see, I’m actually very positive about this season, assuming injuries don’t derail the season.

Habs IMO have the deepest forward group in the division, albeit can’t match the top line talents of their division opposition, and I expect MB will address PMD / PP QB and veteran 3C before start of the season

I dont have strong opinions either way, but Bergevin built a SCF team and played the Kotkaniemi situation quite masterfully, so I can't particularly say I'm mad at a potential extension. I like the direction this team has been going over the past few seasons.
Drafting and development needs serious re-thinking and for that, I hold Bergevin responsible. I was hoping he's going to finish his contact and hand over the reins.

That said, he probably deserved a 3 year extension with this recent playoff run. In 2023 we have Drouin and Byron coming off the books and the 2023/24 season will be the ultimate test of what he has built since 2018.

Overall, I do think we are a better deeper team, but still miss that top line talent.....rolling four lines with that depth just might do it..............a PP QB would be huge...we still have not replaced Markov, year 5 of that.....still think MB is in over his head...

I presume the three years term is on Bergevin's demand, as Molson would have signed him longer if it was possible. When you have a Top 3 GM in the league, you try to lock him up for as long as possible, so he has all the freedom to execute his long term vision.

Hey, I'll take it, but would have preferred a 10 years deal to crystallize our management's eliteness. Maestros don't grow on trees. At least we can expect shrewd moves and a sharp mastermind overseeing our roster for a couple of years still. We can breathe a little easier for the moment, before the inevitable happens and we have to replace the irreplaceable.

Looking forward to the press conference.

In a normal year, this is not a SCF team. In a normal year, they get bounced in the first round by Tampa, if they make the playoffs at all.
You're so stuck on 'normal years'. It wasn't a normal year, deal with it.

You face circumstances and deal with them accordingly. It's a pandemic shortened season with a canadian-only division. You do what you have to do to make it to the playoffs.

In every situation, you work with the circumstances and environment you're dealt. No what ifs.

Would be nice to see Norlinder come in here and just dominate.....jesus, we're due for this type of luck, seems to happen with other teams quite a bit.....and I'm also convinced that Weber is coming back for the playoffs, that guy deserves a freggin break. The whole Bervegin telling everyone that Weber is finished was theatre IMO

What kind of garbage post is this? Maestro? Irreplaceable? Elite mastermind? My 5 year old daughter could have done a better job.

FFS,...

I'm sure she'd play 2C too for this team, probably draft better then Timmins and can manage the cap

Think you got yourself a Doogie Howser

And last year Jim Nill was a finalist..the same Jim Nill people on this board (probably even you) constantly point to as a worse gm than Bozovin....
Jim Nill has been GM of Stars for 8-seasons and missed playoffs more often than MB - in fact other than that finals run he had little to no playoff success

Easy to overlook Nill has the extreme advantage of being GM in a geographically & taxation friendly locale that attracts players - be it via trade / players waiving NTC/NMC or UFA, whereas MB operates an org at the polar opposite end, one of the least favorite destinations for players

MB hasn’t been TBay like great, but there’s a Conf final & Cup final - how many of the other 30 teams can attest to even that over last 10-years?

That news about the 3-year deal to Bergie was something Engels told us in June. As if it was on the table. From the new source, it seems it's signed. And will be announced at the start of the year. We will see.

I think Molson is delaying it cause he extended him too early last time. I believe they both decided after a few months of discussion to delay it till Nov/Dec ish. First week of the season makes no sense to me... unless Molson told him he wanted to see final rosters?

I am still chuckling on some thinking Bergevin wants out cause he said "I have one year left and I will honor it". That's just Bergevin revealing little cause it's his personal contract and it's not in his best interest to tell us fans his personal business before anything is signed.

Question? Lets say he is not back with us after next year? Does he get a GM ever again? I think he does but may take an assistant GM job until a proper fit comes along

Like it or not getting to the Stanley Cup has to be rewarded....most all us here been whining about never getting to a Cup final maybe for the rest of our lives.....and Bergevin finally got the bus to the finish line....it has to mean something.

If we have time, we can go back and review past comments to those who hate him. You would have been laughed right off the site if you said we would have a cup finals back when and there was a few conversations about that here and there from what I remember. Now, the doubters will say, we got lucky so it don't count. That's comical. The only lucky part was not facing Tampa in the 1st or 2nd round. Remember after we beat the Pens? Same dooms day predictions that we won't even make the playoffs in the Canadian division.

In fairness? Some of those who disliked him in the past has changed their minds a bit and they get credit. Those who hold onto past grudges or stances can live on a island by themselves

Improved prospect pool and improved team on the ice over the last few years. That's not easy to do

Isn’t that the case almost every playoffs, Bruins 2011 game 7 PT, Caps with a fluke OT goal that went off Eller’s ass vs CBJ.. How about Habs down 2-0 to Nords in 1993?

Teams don’t win the Cup or even make it to the finals with some amount of puck luck

Some more much more, than others.

Habs are going to be making the playoffs unless injuries kick in

Which is the same as saying the habs won't make the playoffs... injuries "kick in" every year. Last year we had well above average luck injury relative to the rest of the league, keep in mind.

I am one of those. Big time against before and wanted his head on a platter when they annoucned the reset. Heck i was so mad that day he as not let go.
But i am also an observer and saw a huge improvement in the way he managing the club.
From trade, development , players he signed, and managing his ego.
Kudos to him i say, and i am a fan that takes no pleasure from just dissing for the sake of dissing.
Now had he matched KK at 6,1 and kept danault at 6 i would be cursing him lol

MB doesn't deserve any credit for that though, the team finished 18th overall, and only won 24 out of 56 games,

Anybody who knows anything about hockey knows that is not a playoff team,

The last two playoff appearances should be credited to COVID not MB

Why ruin people's day with simple facts...

The maesrto's cheer squa is out in full regalia today, might as well let them enjoy their bliss

I feel he has learned on the job and it was a situation where Molson could not fire him and write off $25M back when. I keep saying it, he was extended 1.75 years left on his previous deal when we were in 1st place and then shit got real bad after that. Price went down, Gallagher went down, Subban traded, Markov and Radulov, Price contract, Alzner contract, etc. That was the best time to let him go and those who wanted him fired were right but the money to write off was too much. So both him and Timmins were allowed to rebound and it appears like they did. I believe our team on the ice is on a better track and I feel our prospect pool is very strong. More work to do to add a star but it's strong no doubt

6 or 7 guys on our roster who were drafted by the Habs (7 with Poehling). Bergevin made trades or signed guys to build this bubble team. We can complain about the bubble team but I have more faith in this team making the playoffs than the last few before last year. We will see how this season goes but we have depth and little flaws so it could go well if we stay away from key injuries. Injuries to either or Suzuki or Petry would be very bad.
