Once again, the ignore feature is a wonderful thing.

Bass changed his Instagram profile picture and profile info. I wonder if his bigoted ass can't handle living in a country where they don't openly talk about liquidating undesirables?

Dump him. Kevin Keirmeier comes from the same type of religious background and yet he openly championed pride stuff when he was a Ray. When asked why he responded "because my parents raised me to love everyone." What's Bass's excuse?

There are plenty of scumbags in the MLB who have done bad things.

For most of them, they have harmed a small group of people by abusing one.

Anthony Bass has used his fame and reach to legitimize hatred, which could negatively impact hundreds or even thousands.

He should not be addressing the media for a few days and should be away from the club, but if he is addressing them and says anything other than that he did not understand the weight of his words, he should be cut off by the reporters and audibly booed. You can grow as a person or you can watch the world pass you by.

Bass as a private citizen has a right to his opinion and to express it. But being a player on a MLB team gives him a platform. If he wants to use that very public platform to make such a public declaration that is effectively a huge slap in the face to many of his employer's supporters and that runs contrary to the norms of the vast majority of the population where he lives, or even endangers lives, he should be prepared to deal with the consequences including the possibility that the team chooses to move on from him should they do so. Moreover to do this just before the Jay's Pride Weekend makes this even more pointed.

Given what you wrote about Keirmeier makes me respect him even more.

Such a canned ass PR apology too. They caught Hazel in frame and even she looked unimpressed lmao.

I guess not everyone can be a Kevin Pillar.

Anthony Bass wants to reassure Toronto Blue Jays fans that baseball is for everyone.

The 35-year-old relief pitcher apologized on Tuesday a day after he shared an Instagram reel where a content creator made the “Biblical case” for why Christians should boycott Bud Light and Target after they openly supported the LGBTQ+ community.

“I made a post that was hurtful to the Pride community, which includes friends of mine and close family members of mine and I’m truly sorry for that,” Bass said to media outside the Blue Jays’ dugout at Rogers Centre. “I just spoke with my teammates and shared with them my actions yesterday. I apologize with them and, as of right now, I’m using the Blue Jays’ resources to better educate myself to make better decisions moving forward."

“The ballpark is for everybody. We include all fans at the ballpark and we want to welcome everybody.”

Bass did not take questions from media after making the statement. Manager John Schneider took several questions from reporters on Bass’s statement in his regularly scheduled pre-game media availability.

Schneider said that Bass originally apologized to him and general manager Ross Atkins and then, at Schneider’s prompting, the reliever apologized to the entire team.

“I think him showing accountability was a really good thing. We want everyone to feel welcome here at the ballpark, obviously, and around the league,” said Schneider in his office. “We as an organization are going to continue to do all the things we have done in the past with the Pride community."

“It was a good thing that Anthony came in and realized what he did.”

Bass’s comments come days before Pride Month, a weeks-long celebration of Toronto’s LGBTQ+ community, is set to begin. Rainbow decorations have already been set up around Union Station, the downtown transit hub less than a 10-minute walk from Rogers Centre.

I don't agree with what he said and I think it is pretty clear at this point Bass is a complete moron. I also don't think he should be dropped from the team for it either.
I'm not giving Bass away right now. If Bass for Hendriks were on the table I'd jump at it (I think Chicago would too to avoid paying Liam)

Yeah I mean I would have no issue trading him or something but I don't think it is to the point of straight up DFA and I would imagine the union would have something to say about it if they tried to do that.

Wonder how many times in the mirror it took him to memorize that script..

Anyway it's been addressed, @Fourier hit the nail square on the head with his post, let's move on folks .. we can't go down the political rabbit hole any further.

I'm not sure this is a political rabbit hole.

On the one hand, Bass has become a negative distraction again. It doesn't really matter what he has said, because it is the 2nd time he's posted something on social media that offended parts of the fanbase.

On the other hand, calling for a boycott because they sell clothes with rainbows on them takes a special level of mental gymnastics to get to political or religious objection.

I'm still pretty nervous every time Berrios is on the mound after the way last year went and this year started, but:

2017-21 - 3.74 ERA, 3.79 FIP, 4.07 xFIP
2023 - 3.86 ERA, 3.79 FIP, 3.98 xFIP

He's been pretty much exactly the pitcher they were hoping for when the trade went down.

I'm pretty happy with Gausman as the ace, Berrios as a solid 2-3, and Bassitt and Kikuchi to just give you innings and give the team a chance to win more often than not. Manoah really needs to figure it out because the rotation has fallen into place nicely everywhere else.

Tied for 27th among all starters in fWAR.

Orelvis Martinez with another HR today which gives him 14hr in just 41 games.

50+ HR pace but only hitting .179 with a OBP below .300 although he's been much better the last month.

This guy must be the most polarizing prospect ever.

He’s picked it up a lot though walking and getting another hits.

Rainer Nunez hit a homer in his AA debut.

Hilarious Stroman is talking about locker room problems but I wouldn't be shocked if he was right.

Even ignoring this bit of stupidity you have to think even though he's been a bit better recently with Zach Pop on his way back that Bass was on the short list to make room for Pop.

Bass got the shit boo'd out of him as he came into the game.

I honestly don't think he finishes the season in Toronto. With how petulant he is i could see him forcing his way out after he gets mad no one bought his apology.

Orelvis has more HRs (14) than singles (9)
