On management;

I think it is possible that the Canucks will wait till after the allstar game and then replace Bruce with the hope of bump in play so they can sit on their hands and say one more year with this new coach. Making it 2 additional years of status quo.

It is all about doing nothing with excuses. But every story has been told already, but they don't know that.

Paper bags, jersey tossing and empty seats will need to be maintained to educate this management group.
The new excuse will be the Demko injury. Book it.

aaaah yes, the plan to fix the future is to do nothing to improve the future.

Meh, who cares what their intent is. Jim Benning taught us that, no matter how badly you want to compete, the unintentional tank is real. We’re still likely going to be forced into trading Horvat, which should crater our chances at the playoffs. As long as Myers, OEL, and Miller are playing big minutes, and morale is low, I’m not worried about the tank being in jeopardy 😎

I've seen this classic posted several times and to me it perfectly embodies the whole direction of this franchise.

We've had like 9 failed deadlines in a row. The trade deadline hasn't meant a thing to the Canucks in forever.
The burrows hansen trade deadline and the pettersson draft

Those 5-6 months were a good time.

This organizations obsession with this core fascinates me.

It’s just so random. Like this isn’t some team that dominates in the regular season and is missing that “it factor” in the playoffs like Toronto, or washington before they got over the hump.

They suck all year................. and they are so loyal to them.
I’ve never seen that kind of loyalty to trash before
Really is wild and interesting to me.

Shit owner shit franchise shit management
and dumbass fans that supports this teams direction despite the shit performance happened the last decade.

A very fitting consequence.
Vancouver deserves this shit.
Hate me all you want. It’s true.

Canucks is still my favourite team but I can’t watch this shit unless they face the truth that this team needs a rebuild badly.

Kind of hilarious that this management group is likely looking at trading any combination of Boeser, Garland, Horvat, Kuzmenko, etc. and yet we did not claim a free asset in Tolvanen. But we gave up assets for Studnicka. Following this team is a carousel of getting your balls broken over and over again.

It's posts like this that fascinate and confuse me. I've never seen anything like it from a fanbase, ever.

Literally every team is loyal to their best players. Impact players are very hard to get. 1-for-1 star-for-star deals don't happen. Basically the only top players in this sport who get moved are moved because the player is forcing their way out. When that happens it's quantity for quality and the team moving the quality basically always loses.

And the core players are not the problem here. They're performing, bar the injured Demko. That people are cheerleading trading 'trash' on pace for 60 goals is absolutely insane to me.

The exception is Boeser and the inexplicable extension he got last summer, although management appears to have quickly realized what a terrible mistake they made there and reports are that they're trying very hard to move him, to the point of involving the agent.

If you define the core strictly as Pettersson, Hughes and Demko it’s fine, but they keep prioritizing all these players that are not “core” at all. The mistakes are all over the rest of the roster not with those guys. And they obviously made a vast misjudgement on a few veterans approaching 30.

Arguing around the core is a bit of a straw man in my opinion. Just stop being so broadly shit at roster building and managing the cap.

We are all suckers.

Season ticket holders go to the state of the union and the president , GM , coach aren’t there. They plop Stan Smyl to answer questions lol. What a f***ing slap in the face. Those people will keep buying those tickets tho.

We have burgundy seats nobody wants. With a whale logo nobody wants. We have a team of players nobody respects. First team to habw a goalie captain and then pay him 10 years after he left the team.

The team is an absolute laughing stock, yet here we all are every single game. Who’s the idiots them or us?

Hughes f***ing hatesssss it here. Look at his face , his interviews etc. just chased a huge bag … he couldn’t care less

If they turn course a bit and sell Miller I will forgive a lot.

I think MS covered all this a few pages back. Opening up capspace really shouldn't be a huge issue assuming they're open to buyouts, retention and moving some picks here and there. The issue will be a lack of assets(those picks needed to move contracts also come in handy acquiring players) to actually constructively build the team.

Assuming they bring back the same roster

RFAs: qualifying offers for rfas.

UFAs : Schenn $2m, Horvat $8m, Kuzmenko $7m.

The 23 man roster is at $88.96m + Poolman's $2.5m LTIR. Cap is expected to be around $83.5m, they are $5.5m over

Salary options to move

Boeser $6.65m
Garland $4.95m
Pearson $3.25m
Myers $6m
OEL $7.26m

Obvious ones

1. Get salary cap compliant.

Boeser out, Podz in. Salary cap compliant

2. Get some cap breathing room and open some spota

$6m Trade Myers after bonuses.
$2m don't sign Schenn
$3.25m Pay a 2nd to take Pearson

$11.25m cap to get 2 top 4 Dmen and a genuine 3C. Going to be tough. Garland is an option but OEL being dealt with would be the biggest outcome.

The question is who and how much?

Fantasy scenario
Trade Horvat Kuzmenko for fat hauls
Re-sign then as UFAs
Trade Myers
Use the haul to move Pearson, Boeser and OEL.

Nightmare scenario
Horvat and Kuz leave as UFAs
PA spends the cap on a washed up 2C and tweener

We should trade Schenn for a draft pick at the deadline. I don't mind bringing him back as a UFA but at ~$850K not for $2M. Aging Dman like Schenn don't get a raise. Give him a NTC if you absolutely have to on a 1 year deal near the league minimum.

We should have traded Myers last summer instead of asking for a massive return. Media people seem to think we should trade him at next year's deadline. I'm not sure about that but it is what it is.

No to paying a 2nd to take Pearson. He'll only be 31 next year. Might as well bet on him staying healthy, bouncing back, and trade him at 50% retained at next year's deadline for a draft pick. Pearson might be overpaid but unless he falls off the map and becomes an AHL level player, he's the type of player contenders like to add at the deadline.

I mentioned this frequently. They need to move one of their wingers. It doesn't make sense to have Garland, Kuzmenko, Mikheyev, Miller, and Boeser making about ~$5M+ when one of them is going to be playing on the 3rd line, nevermind 2nd unit PP. Boeser appears to be the odd man out here and for good reason. Boeser at his best is the best goal scorer of the bunch but when he's not at his best he's the worst. We're also probably not re-signing Horvat.

There's not a lot of options on the free agent market for top 4 Dmen that we want this summer. The trade market is usually terrible as well.

Organization is a complete joke now

- can’t draft
- can’t scout
- horrible contracts
- zero prospects
- can’t develop young players
- can’t coach or play with discipline and structure
- can’t manage injuries
- can’t hold a lead

Fans are stuck with tickets now but that will erode as renewals come up.

This franchise is dying under the aqua family

He preaches tough no quit hockey and takes no BS. Sounds like the exact kind of coach we need while the teams in the tank.
That may have worked way back but not today. How did that work out for him in Arizona? Terrible choice if they make it. Would much rather go with Colliton or Gronborg.
