Myers was hurt at the beginning of the year as well.

I think the facts regarding Stillman are pretty simple and management/coach was on the same page. Allvin said he was a 3rd-pairing guy when acquired. Bruce played him as a 3rd pairing guy, until recently.

Cause no GM has ever said a cap dump was more than that, and a player they were looking at, and all evidence we have shows how much the coach and management were on the same page!

The team/organization needed blueline depth regardless of injuries. That is the reason for Stillman and Bear. With Bear they might get a longer term third pairing solution (depending on extension etc.). Stillman hasn’t worked out at this point.

I can see why you had the opinion you did when the trade was made, though I would disagree and cite the Canucks injuries at the time.

But two months later, there is nothing to suggest Stillman was a cap dump. It's a really weird thing to be dug in on at this point and it's not a big deal to be wrong sometimes.

Don't you guys remember how we won the opening day cap Olympics?

Those were the days.

Remember when we had 99pt JT miller with a sub 6m cap hit, pretty valuable asset new mgmt parlayed into a worthless anchor in less than 8 months.

But lets wait and see some more..
Remember when we all thought he had value and the other GMs said no and gave us offers that majority of us thought was meh. Yeah that happened

The only reason to get rid of Dickinson is to acquire someone else using his cap space.
He’s a LW that doesn’t offer shit. If we didn’t pay someone to get him out this off season then we would’ve had to pay next off season to get him off.
He makes zero sense on this roster considering we have Kuz needing ice time to see what he’s worth and Pearson and Garland needing ice time to pump their value so we can trade they ass.
The only case where you would see Dickinson here for the remainder of his contract is if management wants to tank and rebuild. The moment they decided that is not the route, paying to get rid of Dickinson was probably the only option forward.

Not a single word of that responds at all to what I wrote.

This is interesting as hell

Too bad we've spent the last 8 years gunning for 15th.

WHAT THE f*** IS THIS? I WAS TOLD ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN

I don't see why you have to pay to get rid of him even with enough cap space. Unless he's some kind of attitude issue, just play him on the 4th line or in the press box or whatever. It's not like he's a player that is hurting the team beyond just not being good enough for the role they used him in.

I think it is the exact opposite. The Coach was playing him over their guy. Management wanted to play rathbone.

Do you think Stillman would be playing with a different coach here? I sure as hell don't. I am sure there was a few reasons to get him as the body, including defensive depth, but it sure as hell wasn't to have him be an every day dman.

His contract years wise adds up close to Dicks, I think that was just as big as a reason we got him, and to help be zero on opening day. Both of which were bigger reasons than hey lets get this 24 year old dman.

Rutherford sounds so franking stupid

Said it before he was hired but apparently on the Nucks radar that this was a huge mistake hiring him.

That 3 game sample size quote. GTFOH with that

And you ignore the fact that Dickinson had no place on this roster and will eventually need to be traded away.
To what end? What benefit is there from trading him away which costs a high pick vs healthy scratch or AHL demotion both of which are free?

Cap space to use on another player.....

Because there is no spot for him. Our LW this season, Kuz, Miller, Pearson, Pod, Joshua, Garland. He would be in the press box every night and at some point, if you are smart, saving your owner money by trading him away is probably the thing to do.
It’s easy when you are not accountable for the owners money when you are not the GM.

Saving owner money, when is it ever a bad idea to save your boss millions of dollars in real money? You guys are making it sound like the owner is going to be super chill paying somebody 3M+ to sit in the press box for 2 seasons.

nils aman, lane pederson, curtis lazar, jack studnicka and sheldon dries have a combined 105 games for the canucks this year. there's no reason dickinson couldn't be a regular on this team

dickinson’s salary covers like 4 of those 5 players.

not true and irrelevant if we are talking about not being in a hurry to move out salary
Adhering to a budget is always relevant. You think Aqua has money machine that goes brrrrrrrr and JR and Allvin can just spend as much money as they want?

Still mind blowing this clown show managment brought back miller and weren’t willing to take a step back in the deepest draft since 2015 headlined by a generational prospect from Vancouver.

If they played their cards right we would have been an incredible position going forward. We could have traded Miller to the rangers for 3 solid assets and traded Horvat for a haul while getting his replacement through this years draft. The latter could still happen but these guys are as delusional as the previous regime.

We know what the return is for Miller, it’s late first, Lundvist and Chytil. That’s not 3 solid assets, it’s like 1 sold asset and 1 prayer and 1 cap dump.
