Confirmed with Link: Malkin re-signs to a 4 year, $6.1 million AAV deal (Eklund called it, start singing his praises)

Just saying... Ima let IC finish, but ColePens the greatest HF poster of all time.

You nailed it for sure

But on some level, the narrative has been there this entire off-season, and frankly the fact that Yohe / Rossi weren't pushing it the entire time (that Sid was going to make this happen) should show everyone how far out of the loop they are in Pittsburgh. At this point, their (Sid and Geno's) relationship/closeness shouldn't be a secret, but the locals keep missing it.

So basically Letang, Malkin, Rust & Rakell are all coming back at a combined lower cap hit than they had last season? Just doing the math in my head.
A little less, maybe $1 -2 M…Geno took $3M cut, Letang $1 M but Rust and Rakell combined got nearly $3 M increase

All excitement aside; If you'd have told me 6 months ago that the total price for Geno and Letang sticking around was $12.2 million AAV, I'd have laughed in your face. Thought for sure Geno was getting something like $7.5 million AAV and Letang would get something between $8-9 million AAV.
They could have. Or at least, I'm sure Letang could have. Malkin, maybe, especially if he didn't care to go to a weaker team.

Hextall did a really good job getting these guys signed to these deals. Yes they're signed for too long, but who gives a shit? We will be bad in 3-4 years as they age out. Getting them to lower aavs now was what needed to be done to maximize the brief window we have left, and Hextall did that.

Imo if we're going to get passed the first round we need to put Jake with Geno and Rak with Sid. Unless we get trochek....

I think teams are also giving term in anticipation of the cap going up. Look at the Nuke contract.

Teams are kinda coming out of austerity and are feeling spendy again. $6.1 probably sucks in 3 years but it may only be 7% of the cap and not 8%.

Very glad he signed and for a great cap hit. I just really he didn't drag it out in the media like he did. felt too much like Jagr before he was traded.

my opinion of Geno would have truly soured if he left, simply because, to me, it would have meant he / his camp did a LOT of lying over the last couple of weeks, and I simply didn't believe that to be the case. He can get emotional in the moment, but in the end, his camp made it clear he wanted to stay. Once Hextall moved to 4 years, it made no sense to me why this would deteriorate.
Heck, his wife did an interview two years ago talking about how she kinda wished he would go elsewhere and be the #1c but knew this was his home and he would never leave.

So it seems anyone truly close to Geno knew he always wanted to stay.

Frankly his character should stop being questioned, but sadly I doubt it will.
