Guess there really wasn't another team that made sense. But I was really hoping to see Malkin become a captain somewhere else. Feel he deserves it potentially one day.
It would have been interesting. But one aspect of being 2nd fiddle here, is the media aspect. Sid is always front and center, and is a media person's dream. Meanwhile Geno, doesn't have to. And according to media, rarely does. He goes to another city, where he is the man, and he's gotta deal with that every night. Here he doesn't. Maybe not a huge factor, but I think that is one he appreciates here in Pittsburgh.

think brock mcginn....... if you're hoping for something more, Hex will point to GENO>>>>>>>>GENO>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>GENO
I think we're going to move salary out either late tonight or tomorrow morning before free agency starts. We've gotten this far hopefully we can finish it off and bring in the quality player.

fwiw, if you're still wanting roster improvements, i think there's an inherent promise from the FO to make moves and improve the roster after .... getting Letang and Malkin to leave money on the table
Will be hard to do much without a trade but if they can move Petts or Marino that opens up a lot.

If they can't/don't do that then we'll be seeing depth signings tomorrow. If they do move someone, then a guy like Trocheck might still be on the table.

It's my birthday so im taking credit for this :P
so happy he will retire a penguin
Happy birthday. Good present for a Pens fan

Absolutely, that's what I said before this started and was getting a little concerned coming down the wire. Hex was pushing to save salary with these guys. FSG still wants to ride the ship and its Hex job to compete. They said they have some moves in mind but they needed the salary to do so.

Lets see what they have now

Tomorrow could get interesting, looking forward to it

Heck, his wife did an interview two years ago talking about how she kinda wished he would go elsewhere and be the #1c but knew this was his home and he would never leave.

So it seems anyone truly close to Geno knew he always wanted to stay.

Frankly his character should stop being questioned, but sadly I doubt it will.
His character should never have been questioned. He is every bit the Pittsburgh legend Crosby is. Sid knows it, everyone should acknowledge it.

everything is right in the world now…excuse me while I ball my eyes out…
I'm glad you weren't anywhere near a bridge, I just said try to be patient. Now the interesting aspect of all of this begins. Looking forward to seeing what happens over the next 18 hours or so.

I know a certain large part of the fanbase eats this this up. I on the other hand see my franchise that's been non competitive for 4 seasons, most likely cementing that for at least the next 6........ before they get started on the rebuild in 2028??

Flame away.......but remember me in 2028

I want to see some cheap you g blood on the 4th line anyways DOC/Zoho/Big Puusy etc

it wont matter who’s on there because Sullivan will run Carter’s line into the ground and play any young players on L4 4 minutes a night…you know I’m right…

They could have. Or at least, I'm sure Letang could have. Malkin, maybe, especially if he didn't care to go to a weaker team.

Hextall did a really good job getting these guys signed to these deals. Yes they're signed for too long, but who gives a shit? We will be bad in 3-4 years as they age out. Getting them to lower aavs now was what needed to be done to maximize the brief window we have left, and Hextall did that.
That's great to see Hextall getting some love here in the thread. I don't see him getting it from Team-give Geno a blank check, but I don't expect it.

i still believe they want a center. i still would not be shocked if they went after Trocheck.

I've been critical and the length on some of these deals is a little concerning but end of the day he got everyone signed. Credit where it's due. I had both barrels loaded for if 12:01 hit and Malkin wasn't signed though. I didn't care for the drama of this negotiation but end of the day the team got a low AAV and Barry got a fourth year for his client. I'm sure they weren't sending each other Christmas cards before anyhow.

Rossi's credibility here is shot.*

*Until the next time people are mad about something and can use his dumb takes as a cudgel against their posting enemies.
These journalists just soiled the bed royally. And they did it over and over and over again over the last 48 hours. Other than that they were spot on.

didn't Yohe LITERALLY TODAY make a tweet accusing Hextall of signing 3 players to bad contracts while insulting Geno?

No I think it was that they were willing to give term to everyone else but Geno, which shows they somehow don't want Geno.

He's a tool but he's right here.
