Good to see Geno will retire a Penguin

He's a great ambassador of the game for the Penguins in particular and the NHL in general. He should always be given some sort of role here. I'm sure he would be afforded that opportunity if he wants it.
I am pretty sure he will follow the Yzerman path.

Front office position, AGM, perhaps GM somewhere else if the position is not available when he is ready, come back as Pens GM at some point.

That is the cherry on top of Mario's incredible legacy, IMO.

He built that culture.
I think he also clearly loathed how the Jagr situation ended up in the late '90s. I'd also guess that he'd never, ever consider hiring anyone with the mindset of a George McPhee either. I'd much rather have an organization that's too cushy and laid back than one solely focused on results at all costs. Ethics are ethics.

Middle 6 winger. Strong forechecker. Will go
Into dirty areas. Not a pure goal scorer - gets them more mucky than anything around the net.

Great guy. Super inspirational climbing back from cancer diagnosis.

Considering all of the above, he really needs to jump at playing with Sid or Malkin on the cheap.
Why did Philly just dump him? Does it just come down to being stupid like the rest of what Fletcher is doing? Seems like a guy Torts would like.

Idk, I would have loved to see Heinen tried in that role last year but he was never given a shot.

Who knows, maybe he would work well as a guy in that role. You don't need a worldbeater in that spot, hence why Guentzel-Crosby-Simon was so damn effective.
I too wanted Heinen with Sid and Jake. Or Jake with Geno. Something needs to change if we want a better chance at getting passed the first round. But sullys gonna sully

I'm not sure he wants that type of position to be perfectly honest. But if he does I'm sure down the road he probably be in the mix for it.

moving him for nothing and signing a healthier player > not moving him and getting something out of him and letting his contract expire >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> paying someone to take him off our hands
Zucker himself was considered a reliably healthy player before he came here. His GP since making the NHL full-time? 51, 71, 79, 82, 81, 60, 15, 38, 41
I'll note that 60 game season was the one that saw him move over to the Pens in a trade.

As such, I'm not sure there is such a thing as "signing a healthier player" - the moment they join the Pens, it's just a matter of time until they're on LTIR for some portion of their time here!

The only player who has ever escaped the Pens' injury curse in the Crosby-Era was Phil Kessel

Mostly because Chuck Fletcher is a complete and utter moron.

Lindblom specifically was bought out because he's so young with 1 year left on his deal, the CBA allowed us to save more money immediately from his buyout than say - JVR.

Fletcher clearly is throwing everything at Johnny Hockey - and I think we'll land him (which we shouldn't be trying to get him. We suck and will definitely get fleeced in the deal) - so Lindblom is a casualty due to cap & him being a winger.

Philly is run by a bunch of idiots, I think that can explain 95% of their decisions.

Yeah, basically this. We have no idea what we're doing.

We have ownership that only understands spend, spend, spend. Hextall is the only GM in my lifetime that has attempted to build the proper way through the draft. If Patrick doesn't flame out so bad, the narrative may have been different on his tenure.

The current management is *so bad* at their job, they (Bobby Clarke) have gone out of their way to perform media hatchet jobs on Hextall to make it appear like he was the dope. My favorite is Clarke telling the media that every scout in the room wanted Makar, but Hextall basically gave them the metaphorical finger and took Patrick.

I hate our organization.

Have you been waiting since 2009 to come here to say this?

I would rather go out swinging than try to rebuild with the players we have

Just ask teams like Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Philly who have been trying the rebuild for years. It sounds cool until it doesn't
Another first round exit, they needed a shakeup. They will rebuild soon anyways, not everyone can be like the Wings and win Cups without accumulating a bunch of top 3 picks

If you trade Marino, you have Ruhwedel/Friedman as your 2nd pair RD............yikes

No bueno.
We would immediately need to sign Manson or someone of that ilk. Counter productive unless Marino brought in some big fish like Miller...but that'd take some cap dumping
