And I'll just add that the core players are not heavy forecheck/cycle players to begin with.
Right. Unfortunately they aren’t skilled enough to play a highly skilled game, but they also don’t and can’t play a really heavy cycle game either. Worst of both worlds.

I'll make one simple statement:

I don't want a team built around Laf and/or Kakko.
I don’t know how much longer either of them will be on this team so you won’t have to worry most likely.

Lavi and the team got schooled tonight.

The team had several major issues. The D could not make a clean pass to save their lives. The forwards dumped the puck every chance they got but were two or three strides too slow on the forecheck. This team could not execute an aggressive forecheck last season either, what made Lavi think they could do that now? The entire game plan was wrong and it didn't help the team was in a coma.

Why is this team looking sluggish again like it did the start of last year? Makes me wonder what goes on inside that A filled locker room for real. This game felt like the players had spent their energy getting their partying and shopping done before they disappear out West for two weeks.

I would be less annoyed if the players looked like they were adapting to a new system and just made mistakes or had the occassional break down failing to execute. But the issues were deeper than that.

I guess it was just a boring October game for them and they'll start to turn it up eventually when they can get arsed again.

If you think Lafreniere and Kakko's usage is bad now just wait to see what it's going to look like around game 20 if they don't drastically turn it around.

Right now Laviolette is being the good soldier for Drury and giving "the future" a chance. Pretty soon, like all people who survive for extended periods of time in the corporate world, Laviolette will start placing blame at the feet of his predecessors and trying to distance himself from anything that could make him look bad.

The conversation with Drury in a few weeks will be to the tune of "Hey boss, I gave these kids a chance but there just isn't much there. I'm sorry to say it. If I had had these kids three years ago maybe things could have been different...."

Everyone better start mentally preparing for top six Vesey again.

Its pretty funny to think about but if Adam Fox became had a passion for accounting they probably wouldn't have made the playoffs a single year.

They'd have rebuilt properly and be looking to make the jump this year.

Jesus Christ, we have devolved into wishing our best player since Jagr didn't play for this team so they could rebuild properly? Because we don't have a #1 and #2 pick in the draft. Or do you still think it was the magic power of the Rangers not rebuilding that made them suck? And if we only rebuilt properly they'd be playing like #1 and #2 picks? What a preposterous take, holy shit. BTW, for every New Jersey that rebuilds properly there's an Arizona and Buffalo. Although Buffalo might finally make the playoffs for the first time in like a dozen years.

I forgot how f***ing ridiculous this board gets after every loss. And yeah they sucked and yeah I worry that they're not that good when they get humiliated on offense by a terrible team. But posts like this are beyond that. They just lack any kind of logic.

Cuylle Trocheck Kakko. That’s where he fits best. He can score 40 pts there and be a solid solid part of a real match up checking line.

But play fast with Mika and Kreider? No way. He is role right now is to chip pucks out and watch those two go if he’s lucky.

Laf at least can skate with Panarin and chytil and make a play finish a tap in. Kakko made this a layup for Drury to sign Kane.

You think Kane is the playerr "to play fast with Kreider and Zib"? Kane will just use his name to cherry pick like mad if he gets put in that spot and hover around the red line if the Rangers are defending.

You made a massive amount of assumptions on my position that are the opposite of how I feel.

My post doesn't say any of that in the slightest, it was musing on a counter factual. Bruh.

You said we'd have a real rebuild if we had no Fox. We got a bunch of first round picks and won the lottery twice. How much more real of a rebuild could we have had? Maybe Laf/Kakko just aren't good.

A bunch of us were talking about this last year. The coach, warts & all, wasn't the main problem.....We're on our 3rd coach with this core & the really annoying part is nothing gets through to them. They play exactly the same way regardless of the "system".

By the way wheeler is a 50 pt player. He’s gotta be on pp2. Not miller
Wheeler looks completely cooked.

Only the rangers would finally rebuild and get a 7 9 2 and 1 overall picks and come away with lias Andersson Vitali Kravtsov Kappo Kakko and Alexis Lafreniere

You are still built around Mika Kreider and an all star goalie

Yeah because the Rangers cannot tolerate being outside the playoffs. So they traded some assets, but not all assets, plus added UFAs because the Rangers are the smartest org of them all and can rebuild and make the playoffs both at the same time.

Which is why at least let him do something on the powerplay where he can use his skill still

I will say as concerning as today's game was it never fails to amuse me how I'm the angry guy on HF apparently yet literally every bad loss including a *checks notes* game 4 that dropped the team to *checks notes* 2-2 elicits a response as if they lost their 10th game in a row in the middle of a 10 year playoff drought. It's absolutely ridiculous. Reading this thread you'd think we're the f***ing Oilers circa 2014.

Because going full rebuild is a fool proof way to be good.

I'd rather be the Oilers circa 2014...at least their fans had no delusions they were a contender. Plus McJesus was coming just around the bend.

Yeah but McJesus is hidsight. And yeah I too would rather be a fan of a team in the middle of the single worst playoff drought in history. I know you're old enough to remember the dark ages. I started watching in the middle of it and it was brutal. Give me a break with that.

And the Rangers have found the golden ticket to winning, right?

More teams that rebuild end up being like Arizona than New Jersey. The Rangers have had a #1, #2, #7, #9 pick, and a bunch of picks in the top 2 rounds. How many poor top picks did they need?

The PP2 quarterbacks have been atrocious. I think they've been able to get set up in the zone maybe 3 times out of all their chances

The 2014 Oilers are in no way comparable to the Dark Age Rangers & their mercenary free agent signings. All teams have rough patches, but at least the Oilers tanked/lucked/sucked into 2 of the best players in the world. I would absolutely sign up for that compared to this middling country club bullshit we see here night in & night out. Not only is this team not going anywhere, they are brutal to watch. It would one thing if they sucked, but at least skated hard or scored a bunch of goals & lost 6-5. This team is gutless & losing doesn't seem to bother them in the least.
