I will say as concerning as today's game was it never fails to amuse me how I'm the angry guy on HF apparently yet literally every bad loss including a *checks notes* game 4 that dropped the team to *checks notes* 2-2 elicits a response as if they lost their 10th game in a row in the middle of a 10 year playoff drought. You said we'd have a real rebuild if we had no Fox. We got a bunch of first round picks and won the lottery twice. How much more real of a rebuild could we have had? Maybe Laf/Kakko just aren't good.

We likely would have had a traditional 5 year rebuild. We still would have had Panarin and Trouba and they wouldn't have been enough. Our ramp up would be beginning now. This is not controversial.

I have very consistently, for years, been more critical of Laf/Kakko than anyone I can think of on the board. You are confusing me with someone else.

The 2014 Oilers are in no way comparable to the Dark Age Rangers & their mercenary free agent signings. All teams have rough patches, but at least the Oilers tanked/lucked/sucked into 2 of the best players in the world. I would absolutely sign up for that compared to this middling country bullshit we see here night in & night out. Not only is this team not going anywhere, they are brutal to watch. It would one thing if they sucked, but at least skated hard or scored a bunch of goals & lost 6-5. This team is gutless & losing doesn't seem to bother them in the least.

Dude, that team was the biggest embarrassment in the league McDavid turned them around the next year. Your memory is failing you. You think striking out on a #1 and #2 is bad, they were the poster boys of that striking out on THREE #1 picks. They had arguably the worst coach in history in Eakins. They were a far bigger jokes even than the dark age Rangers. Who were these amazing exciting players? They had Draisaitl, ok. McDavid was the following year. And they just happened to luck into an all time great player. If the Rangers sucked in 2015 and not 2020, they'd also have McDavid. You don't get to choose when you get an all time great player in the draft. Also, the current GOOD Oilers are not even that good. What have they won?

The team fell back into their bad habits of the gallant era..Led by Panarin

Gaining the blue line then stopping
Double shifting himself
Bad lazy penalty
Turnovers
Fox also was bad and mika took a grade a pass from kk just to pass it back to him for an impossible bad angle shot..Too much passing.
Pan, fox, tro and zib were the biggest issue and the team followed them down the shitter.
Kk i thought was the best of the 3(laf,chy)
Cullye still looked good but tro was trash and wheeler still is the worse player in the league

Yeah because the Rangers cannot tolerate being outside the playoffs. So they traded some assets, but not all assets, plus added UFAs because the Rangers are the smartest org of them all and can rebuild and make the playoffs both at the same time.

The only problem really was missing on 4 top 10 picks including #1 and #2. They could have continued selling off and rebuilding but they would still be in a rebuild because the guys they drafted suck ass.

The Rangers have had terrible luck with their 1 and 2 OV and also had a top 3 goalie and a top 3 defenseman in the league fall from the sky and appear as near finished products from day 1.
