Edmonton can be patient with him, luckily. Let him feel 100% and ease him in.

Edmonton have the luxury of being patient with Benson definitely.

He'll be a big part of team Canada at world juniors and will get good minutes in the ahl for 2018-2019 season.

EDM has done quite well with some of its forward picks in the last few drafts. McDavid was obviously a no brainer but Yamamoto and Benson were so kid picks. Pulju too

He has a chance at a role, but I don't think he's a lock for the roster. He's constantly injured and probably fighting for a 3rd line role with the WJC team. He has a bunch of competition for a LW role with Raddysh, Dubois, Dube, Rasmussen, Gadjovich, Katchouk, Mascherin, Mason Shaw, and Jost. Maybe Jost and Dubois are in the NHL, and Rasmussen moves over to Center, but, he is not even a guy who is on the roster in pencil right now. The only locks, assuming they aren't in the NHL in regards to forwards are returnees in Jost, Dubois, McLeod, and Raddysh, plus probably Kyrou, Patrick, and Sam Steel. Then there are about 20 other guys fighting for the last 6 to 11 spots (as I think everyone but Kyrou and Steel could break camp in the NHL, but unlikely all of the above stay).

Hmmm i dont think he will be on the WJC team. IMO there are alot better options and he is constantly hurt. Anything is possible though once he comes back and if he stays healthy and if he plays well

He definitely has a chance of course, he doesn't shy away from physicality. It depends on his start in the whl but I believe he'll be an impact player league wide putting up good enough numbers to justify a spot.

Any Giants fans have an update on his play? 12 points in 8 games to start and hopefully he stays healthy. The talents there to become a middle 6 NHLer imo.

How has he looked in camp so far? Likely AHL bound I'm guessing?
Looked very poised in the games his was in. But his play became less noticeable as camp progressed. He was sent down with the first batch to Bakersfield's camp.

Ok thanks, hopefully he can have a good season, I think he can surprise, won't have much talent to work with though it seems.

Lighting it up so far in Bako on the kid line (Benson-Marody-Vesel). Now has Pulju and Yamo to work with too. Hopefully he keeps this up. Has a good future ahead as a nice middle 6 forward ino.

I am shocked at the lack of talk about him. Especially seeing that he is an Oiler prospect. He looks to be having an outstanding season so far in the AHL.. VERY happy to see he is staying healthy and showing what he can do.

Oilers are quietly putting together a pretty impressive group of prospects all of a sudden with guys like Benson, Yamamoto, Jones, Bouchard, Marody etc etc

In my opinion i think Oilers will start being way more patient with prospects from this point going forward and keep guys developing in the AHL, but if he keeps rolling like this and staying healthy, he will get some games in next season

If Benson can stay healthy I think he’ll be a really good third liner, or a great complimentry top 6 forward. Easily one of my favourite Oilers prospects

Ya u cant ask for a better rookie pro season than what he is currently having this year. Things are looking good for him

Agree with all of this, you could tell when he was a Vancouver Giant that he would make a good pro player, perhaps not a star but the type of guy you want on your team for the playoffs.

Health has always been an issue with him, great to see a good stretch of health from him this season.

3 points out of 5th place in overall scoring. 3rd in assists overall. He was projected early to go top-5, but injuries made him drop. We could have a huge steal here.

Why hasn’t he been called up?

He'll be given 4th line minutes playing with scraps. They're letting him finish the season in the AHL, develop a winning habit, and then compete for the roster next year.

But I have no doubt that he is currently better than most players on our NHL roster.

Wont survive the NHL. Poor guy is made out of glass. Hes a great guy. I hope he can sign a good contract so that he will have financial stability for when he gets injured.
