He has a chance at a role, but I don't think he's a lock for the roster. He's constantly injured and probably fighting for a 3rd line role with the WJC team. He has a bunch of competition for a LW role with Raddysh, Dubois, Dube, Rasmussen, Gadjovich, Katchouk, Mascherin, Mason Shaw, and Jost. Maybe Jost and Dubois are in the NHL, and Rasmussen moves over to Center, but, he is not even a guy who is on the roster in pencil right now. The only locks, assuming they aren't in the NHL in regards to forwards are returnees in Jost, Dubois, McLeod, and Raddysh, plus probably Kyrou, Patrick, and Sam Steel. Then there are about 20 other guys fighting for the last 6 to 11 spots (as I think everyone but Kyrou and Steel could break camp in the NHL, but unlikely all of the above stay).Edmonton have the luxury of being patient with Benson definitely.
He'll be a big part of team Canada at world juniors and will get good minutes in the ahl for 2018-2019 season.

Hmmm i dont think he will be on the WJC team. IMO there are alot better options and he is constantly hurt. Anything is possible though once he comes back and if he stays healthy and if he plays well
I think he was assigned to the AHL today (maybe yesterday). How has he looked in camp so far? Likely AHL bound I'm guessing?
Looked very poised in the games his was in. But his play became less noticeable as camp progressed. He was sent down with the first batch to Bakersfield's camp. How has he looked in camp so far? Likely AHL bound I'm guessing?

In Bakersfield? He's probably on the top line with Marody and Yamamoto.Ok thanks, hopefully he can have a good season, I think he can surprise, won't have much talent to work with though it seems.
If Benson can stay healthy I think he’ll be a really good third liner, or a great complimentry top 6 forward. Easily one of my favourite Oilers prospects
I am shocked at the lack of talk about him. Especially seeing that he is an Oiler prospect. He looks to be having an outstanding season so far in the AHL.. VERY happy to see he is staying healthy and showing what he can do.
Oilers are quietly putting together a pretty impressive group of prospects all of a sudden with guys like Benson, Yamamoto, Jones, Bouchard, Marody etc etc
In my opinion i think Oilers will start being way more patient with prospects from this point going forward and keep guys developing in the AHL, but if he keeps rolling like this and staying healthy, he will get some games in next season
Why hasn’t he been called up?Four points today, up to 55 in 58 games in his rookie year. T-14th overall in AHL scoring, 3rd for rookies.
He is having an incredible season
