3 points out of 5th place in overall scoring. 3rd in assists overall. He was projected early to go top-5, but injuries made him drop. We could have a huge steal here.

I like him alot and think that he will be a solid NHL player but not sure about being a steal at 32nd.

Jesper Bratt at 162 is a steal.

Talking about draft position 3 years later is pretty useless. If injuries were the only thing that made him drop he wouldn't have followed it up with two pretty middling WHL seasons. He deserves credit for his season and growth, not his fall 2015 draft ranking.

My god you're a loser. You were probably chuckling to yourself when you hit reply which makes it even sadder.

Yikes name calling on a msg board. I must have hit a nerve.

I stand by my opinion. Health has always held him back and nothing will change as a Pro. Skill and leadership never questioned tho.

Tought that Debrincat was on the board when Benson was chosen too but hindsight 20/20

The Oilers could be good in a season or two, if they let their winger prospects develop properly. Let them over-ripen in the AHL, if need be. Benson, Yamamoto and Puljujarvi should all start next season in the AHL. Let them destroy the league, get some confidence in their games, and then promote them the next season to play in the top 9.

Puljujarvi wont be in the AHL next year

It wasn't injuries that made him drop, it was his lackluster play in the 2 years leading up to the draft. Galchenyuk was injured almost his entire draft year and still went 3rd overall.

Glad to see he's having a good year in the AHL though.

He'll have to be waived in order to be sent down.

I didn’t know that. I don’t think he’s an NHL player yet. He’s very raw. He has talent, but needs to develop with big minutes. Going back to the two seasons before he was drafted, it was very similar. He showed talent, but didn’t play consistent hockey. He should’ve never started out in the NHL. Now there’s no option. Could he be loaned to Liiga or the KHL? I think that would be much better than forcing a player who isn’t NHL ready to play in the NHL.

I agree. The best option imo is the Liiga, but I don't know how that works.

He was managed very poorly by the Oilers.

Dube has much better numbers in the AHL and was taken ~20 spots later in the same draft. Not too encouraging for Oil fans. Best of luck to Benson but seems to max out at the Rattie level IMO.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. He plays absolutely nothing like Ty Rattie.

And no, Dube doesn’t have “much” better numbers. He has a slightly better PPG playing for a bad team that the Condors slap around for the fun of it.

He could be loaned but the player would have to agree to it.

Dube is a terrific prospect lol, is this supposed to be a diss to Oilers fans? Unlike yourself most fans can acknowledge a players talent regardless of the team they play for.
The fact Benson and Dube are progressing similarly this year is fantastic news for the Oil fans.... and not so good news for Lames fans I guess.

Was going to say how moronic of statement the bolded is then I read the "IMO" part. Yeah bud that definitely is your biased opinion and yours alone Mr.Flameshomer

Happy to hear about Benson. Been a fan since he was a Giant. Hopefully the Oilers don't ruin him or bring him up too early.

The Giants tried their best to ruin him. We have been handling his progress really well imo.
Benson is a fan favorite in Edmonton he was hyped before his bantam draft. Likely would have gotten exceptional status had he applied for it.

Oilers are actually really good at developing Canadian kids, we suck with non-english speaking euros.

Rattie has way better numbers in the AHL and WHL than Benson ever had.

Re: the bolded- why would this be fantastic news for oil fans when benson was lauded as essentially a second first round pick and the heir apparent to McD's wing only 2 seasons ago? It's also not true. Dube is progressing at a much better rate than Benson.

Benson has better AHL numbers and plays a pro style game.
