Yeah. This is true.

I think you get more "duos" and balanced scoring than two fixed top-6 "trios" in today's NHL. Depth in the Top-9 is key.

And while Benson may not be the type to ever really carry a scoring line by himself in the NHL...he's a very smart player who does a lot of spadework, and is a sneaky-good passer. His skillset is well tailored to get the puck, cycle the puck, put it on the sticks of the "better" players on whatever line he ends up on...and get to the net.

I'd just categorize him as a "Top-9 Forward". Glue guy, who you can slot in on pretty much any line and he'll help out. Very complementary skillset that i think should shine when playing with better players like the Hlinka for example (which hasn't really been the case with the Giants). Kinda miscast as a go-to scoring guy. But with the potential to play up the lineup in a supporting role - and the kind of player coaches are always going to want to bump up the lineup.
These are the main reasons out of players I expect to be available at 29 I really want him for the Leafs. He seems to be an ideal fit for Matthews and Marner. Might just need to shoot some more. I know both of those guys will probably be in the show next year, so its a long-term play, but I have faith in his pedigree, and skill set. At 29 your hoping for a guy to be ready in 3 years.

I could certainly see Benson playing a role kinda like Roslovic did with Matthews.

His ceiling is quite high, I still remember a lot of Bantam hype around him. Potentially a Saad-like early 2nd round pick IMO.

The bantam hype is gone. He isn't going to be some sort of major impact player.

His upside is Jamie Langenbrunner - a gritty 45-50 point type who can do the dirty work as the 3rd wheel on a scoring line with more talented players.

More likely he's an hard-working, 3rd line 30-point type.

I think he has more upside than that. This year was a perfect storm of crap for Benson. He showed flashes of his true ability before he got hurt. I would say his upside is Brendan Morrow and Langenbrunner is his more likely outcome.

Tyler Benson: Edmonton Oilers, 32nd overall.

The former 2016 first overall contender goes to the team with four first overall selections.

Jeeez he looks old and weathered there. :amazed:

Seems like a potentially great future linemate for someone like McDavid though. Exactly the sort of player who can fit alongside a Crosby or McDavid type talent, with his ability to work the corners and the dirty areas, get the puck efficiently to more skilled linemates...and get to the net. Probably best off not being asked to handle the puck extensively and drive offensive himself. But great in a more complementary role, with the hockey sense to mostly keep up with the play.

Oilers were trying to get that in tkachuk before striking out. Benson plays a similar game and hopefully ends up as that type of top 6 winger

Really sharp pick by the Oil. He projects well into a strong forward for them in the future. Slots in with Mcdavid, Draisaitl.

Edit. Will the Oil move him back to Center?

I wouldnt think so just given depth at center. Maybe he ends up like Shaw tho where he can play center in a pinch

I'm just amazed at the size of Katzs kid in all of these photos.
I'm just aghast at seeing MacT in any of these photos, makes my stomach go all queasy.

Although he played for the Vancouver Giants, he never really seemed like a Vancouver Giant. It just went by too quickly and too uneventfully.

Daryl is the same height as Gary Bettman (5'7''), while his son Harrison is the same height as Patrik Laine and Jesse Puljujarvi (6'4'').

2010 was the first time we saw him:

In fact, he's gotten even taller since last year. When Connor McDavid was drafted, Harrison was just a little bit taller than Craig MacTavish (6'2'').

Harrison and his sister Chloe are twins.

Connor McDavid greets kids as he leaves the ice. 2,000 Junior High students watched official launch of the Hockey Helps Kids Charity Cup. The philanthropic idea of twins Chloe and Harrison Katz, Hockey Helps Kids aims to raise awareness and funds for a variety of local charities.
As of February 22, 2016, Harrison was 15 years old.

The idea for Hockey Helps Kids started when Chloe and Harrison Katz were challenged by their parents to come up with a way to give back to the community. “We wanted to do something with kids of our own age,” said 15-year-old Chloe.

What we are looking at is a 6'4'' 15 or 16-year-old kid. He still has time to grow.

Tyler is one of those C/LW type of players. I see this as an advantage for the Oilers to put him where he is best suited and needed. I can see Mcdavid and Draisaitl #1-#2 going fwd long term. It will be interesting where Benson is developed with the Oil.

Sounds like it's nothing serious. He should be ready to go in a week or two from what I read. Really curious to see how he fares with a full season under his belt.

That would be great. Shoulders can be really tricky.

Any Giants fans in here? Scored a hat trick tonight and has 8 points in his last 3 games. Would love to hear from anyone who saw the games about how he looked. Hoping he can become a solid 2nd liner for us in a few years.

bump.
I'm just going off a stat page but he's looked good so far into season and CANvsRUS series.
anyone who's watched him care for a bit more in-depth update analysis on how he's come along?
