I feel it's a cool tradition we have going on here. Besides, does anyone honestly think that opposing teams wouldn't know who the most dangerous guys on the ice are. Coaches and players are fully aware of that, they don't need a golden helmet to spot the top scorers.

Back on topic: Laine is the first Finn in so many years that we can legitimately hope to break fourty goals per season in the NHL. 50 goal season are so rare these days but even still, I believe Laine has a chance at achieving even that along the line.

40 goal seasons are crazy now and this year there was one 50 goal scorer and "three" 40 goal scores in the NHL. The previous two seasons 3 players reached over 40 goals. In the last half decade we have not had 5 players reach the 40 goal level in the same season.

If Patrik eaches the 40 goal level more than once he will be an elite NHL goal scorer in the company of the top 4 or 5 guys in the NHL. I honestly think he has the pedigree to do it and I am a Canadian. He has the size, the skill, and that special element you can just feel when you are watching him confidence/swagger. He seems to be driven to want it....to be the best.

He still needs to develop his defensive game and skating to make the real impact in NHL. And at times, he still surfs on the ice. Having said that, the guy is a lethal gun in the offence. Both in terms of finishing and setting up a team mate.

I agree, but it comes better when you get more age and experience. Like Armia, he was so bad in defensive side and now he is very good of that, hope he still get better in offensive in NHL level. He is just 22 years old (same age when Selänne come to NHL), so there is a chance that he can be very good 1-2 line winger and put 50 points a year, maybe even 60 (like Jussi Jokinen).

Yes and if they find away to change goalies equipment smaller or something, there will be more 50 goal players in future. I hope they get something done in that matter.

Time Square comment meant that he just wants to a team where he'll get centerman who can deliver the puck to him in crowded areas.

BTW Laine wasn't part of the celebration yesterday. He went to McDonalds after the game then home to sleep.

KJ already called him and told not to drink too much to be in best shape for joining the WHC team?

i really hope that's the case :yo:

I talked with several Tappara players last night and they said "Laine is at home preparing for WHC".

But yeah you never know for certain until it's official.
Indeed. You never know. Could be that "KJ called, he should prep for WHC" was just a less embarrassing excuse than saying, "His mom called, it was his turn to do the dishes and walk the dog."

I'm pretty sure Laine will be in WHC team. Probably at least 13rd forward at first but then moves up if he plays good enough 5v5. I'd say he starts in 2nd pp unit and again moves up if so. Can't wait to see that powerplay with Barkov and Jokinen moving the puck and Laine being the threat. Then possibly Teravainen and Granlund bros with Pulkkinen.

The thing that Teppo "Winnipeg" Numminen said about Laine is so true. He seems confident, some even say cocky, but I don't think he hasn't yet realized how good he really is.

Also I'd say Puljujarvi is not gonna be in WHC team. Sad he won't have chance to get that third gold after WJC and U18.

I hope Team Finland will go with three offensive lines from the get go. I'd put Laine with Barkov and Aho or Jokinen straight to first line. Laine could focus solely on scoring goals and the the other guys would do more of the defending; in other words, play Laine like Selänne. He is the best goal scorer on the team and that's saying something when you have Barkov, Pulkkinen and Lehkonen on the team as well. Barkov should be able to negate Laine's weaknesses effectively. I hope KJ agrees.

My lineup:

Laine - Barkov - Aho
Jokinen - MiG - Pulkkinen
Lehkonen - MaG - Rantanen
Sallinen - Koskiranta - Komarov

Put him next to Barkov at the WJC.

Was kind of gunning for the perfection with Laine-Barkov-Puljujarvi -line but that seems unrealistic as Puljujarvi seemed to be injured. Not that he needs to worry about dropping out of top-3 after his performances.

Maybe he's a Kotipizza type of guy and it was allready closed and he had to eat Big Macs instead of his favourite ham and pepperoni pizza?

After the game Laine said in an interview with Jaakiekkolehti: "I will reward myself with a good pizza. I'll leave the drinks to other guys, those aren't my thing. And it isn't because of my age, it wouldn't matter if I'd be 25, 40 or 60-years old. I enjoy winning in other ways."

Exactly the words I wanna hear from this dude. :handclap:

It just shows that Laine is truly an extraordinary guy; I mean, who goes to celebrate a championship to a McDonald's?

Superior game from Laine yesterday. He is ready to play in NHL next season. His skating is not so bad that many think. He is huge guy, so it doesn`t look very smooth, but he is fast and his gliding is awesome. First strides is the thing he needs to get better.
Puck protecting skills are world class, and he wins 95% of 1 on 1 battles. Yesterday he even won 2 on 1 battle at the corner couple of times. It is hard to believe, that there really isn`t any big lacks in his game, because he also knows how to play in the defensive zone.

Franchise winger.

In Finland there is teenage girls crying and getting into hockey because of Aho and Puljujärvi. But because of Laine, there is grown men crying for joy. Especially in Tampere.

Maybe Olli Jokinen?. He`s extraordinary guy too :). He would probably went to McDonalds even before the championship deciding game though so he would score in the game :sarcasm:.

But yeah for me Laine doesn`t strike as a guy who likes to party, pure pro :).
And I watched some of the Laine`s playoff games (including the last one), what a great prospect he is... Guess I have to start watching (atleast some games) whichever team is lucky enough to draft him games (hope it`s Edmonton...would be perfect), too bad that I have already Panthers and time is always limited :(. "Too much" talent in Finnish hockey nowadays..:handclap:.

What does this even mean?

I think something pretty far-fetched and satiric, but the point is probably that that game, on that level was just flawless by Laine. His progress in a year has been outstanding, can someone say if there has been as much by any prospect like ever? He has had the potential since forever but after visiting a therapist he has been turning that god-given skill into something beautiful.

It is pretty safe to say this is the best draft season ever played in Europe. Kari Lehtonen comes close as a second but after that the gap is pretty huge. Laines ppg isn't on same level as some other european prospects but it took him half a season to adjust in playing with pros. Noone has been as dominant in Europe as Laine is atm.

Kari Jalonen just revealed to YLE that he has been trying to reach Laine to inform that he is in the team for WHC. :yo:

He parties on the ice instead.

Interesting. I mean, does this mean he is locked for the final team... I got the impression KJ might announce that team after FIN-USA game on tuesday. So I guess Laine has 1 game to play before the selections are made. He should be in anyways.

I don't think Laine has to prove anything anymore. I just hope he is with Barkov. The third link can be Jokinen, Mikael Granlund or Aho. All should work.
