LW Matthew Boldy - Boston College, NCAA (2019, 12th, MIN)

Just as impressive as the goal. was his play immediately before the goal when he was able to regain possession of the puck after the zone was lost and get it back to the D to keep the play alive which allowed him to ultimately score.

Showed lots of poise and composure for a kid playing in his first NHL game.

Was fun to watch, kids gonna be super solid.

Very, very slick hands, thinks the game well, has a vg+ shot. Good skater, if not fast, and has a long reach. Very calm demeanour... not physically aggressive, but big enough already, and will become more of a physical force as he fills out. Sort of a polite Mark Stone, with slightly better wheels. Don't know if he'll ever be as good defensively, but he's not bad.

yeah his speed isnt the best but great edges. honestly boldy seems to have 'it', he can play with the pace and space of the game, that will give him play opportunities that he can make with the skills you named. I can't see him not becoming a top 6 baring anyhing unsuspected

great first impression. I was impressed
this is the guy (among others) I wanted the Canucks to draft over Podkolzin so I will be monitoring his development closely.

He has ice in his veins. He played a dominant puck possession game in the AHL and I though when he came to the NHL it would take a while to play that way against guys that are faster, bigger, stronger, better players. I won't call him dominant at the NHL level, but you definitely notice his ability to win puck battles using his size/reach, skill, strength. He's calm and poised with the puck on his stick too. There were a couple instances where he was able to gather the puck, calm the play down, and control the pace. He makes really nice passes, has a really nice shot. The way he plays reminds me of Draisaitl.

Yeah I thought he was excellent last night!! Beautiful give and go on the goal, and just roofs it without any hesitation.

Looking forward to watching more Wild games with him and Rossi in the lineup!

I doubt Rossi plays beyond the 9 games. I hope they can keep their AHL chemistry going here though while they are up.

Unless Rossi looks really great he will probably go down because of his contract situation. Right now, though, it's all hands on deck. The Wild injury/Covid situation is beyond terrible right now. Spurgeon, Brodin, Kaprizov, Greenway, JEE, Duhaime, Bjugstad, Talbot, and a couple of AHL guys are out. Possibly Foligno, too.

Love to see him playing well. People, including myself, criticized Minnesota about picking him (especially over Caufield) and he didn’t have a great D+1 year. Crazy how quickly he improved. 2019 is looking like a great draft for USA hockey.

Something I've sort of caught on to is that when NCAA players in their 18/19 YO seasons lead their team in shot generation (per the collegehockeynews advanced stats), they tend to go on to be solid NHLers. Boldy and Caufield did just that. So even though his point generation wasn't great in his D+1, there were good signs that Boldy was going to be, at minimum, a decent player. His trendline so far has been really solid.

Very few MN fans that I know were unhappy with the pick. Most very happy that he fell to them. Caufield was always a risky pick, for me. If Krebs hadn't gotten injured pre draft I would've been fine with him as a pick, mainly because he plays C, and MN was in dire need of them. Zero regrets about Boldy as a pick then, and now.

That give and go goal hardly looked like a guy in his first NHL game, in his home state / college town to boot.

He put it on a plate for Fiala with a wide open net to end it in OT, and Fiala missed.

4 points in 4 games to start his NHL career. Can’t wait to see how good he can be. Almost picked up an assist on an OT winner, too, had Fiala not missed an open net

My friend made me this pic because he knows I'm rather high on Boldy, LOL!
