LW Matthew Boldy - Boston College, NCAA (2019, 12th, MIN)

4 games and he has +/- 7,
So confident and patient with the puck, can change speed gear of game pace and create space, wow!
Revelation of the mid-season

Surprised how forgotten he was in the draft for that USNDPT. He's extremely good as a player so far on a wild team that needs more offense, and he's showing it.

The Wild have the fourth highest goals per game of any team in the last 10 years right now.

believe it or not, we actually need defense

Anyways…Boldy…I think he can legitimately be a star in the NHL. Fun to see the young Boston College boys excel yesterday in an NHL game. Newhook got a goal, was +1 and had 4 shots. Boldy with an apple, a +2 in over 17 minutes. That 2019 draft class is gonna go down as a great one.

Even just for USA hockey alone. Hughes, Zegras, Caufield, Knight, Boldy, Pinto, Dustin Wolf, Turcotte, Zac Jones, etc. You could be looking at 4-5 guys who could eventually play for the USA national team in one draft. Maybe more.

He wasn't forgotten. A lot of Canucks fanbase had him right after Zegras, once he was sniped by Anaheim with the pick before, most of the fanbase was hoping for Boldy, but that was because the franchise hasn't drafted a Russian with a high pick since..forever. most of the base is happy with Podkolzin btw. Unless Boldy keeps up his PPP pace.

When he gets stronger on his skates he is going to be an absolute terror. Just an amazing player, let alone prospect, LOL. He makes it look like pond hockey. It's been a treat to follow him since I first saw him at the u18's. Was sometimes overshadowed by the ridiculous production of some of his teammates but for those with a keen eye, he was never missed as a can't miss prospect.

The way he attacks people's space is so impressive... it seems like he makes them feel like their in control and then BAM, nope, you never were, lol. You can tell he was a lacrosse player with how close he gets to opponents. (protecting in tight) I guess his range helps too ;)

Also, If I recall correctly his NCAA zone entry numbers were absurd.. I'm guessing that will carry over like it did on his goal tonight :D

I've said it before and I'll say it again, on the arrival of Wallstedt, I think Minnesota wins a cup. They are just overflowing with talent it's scary.

He’s crushing it now, but is a great example of how you shouldn’t judge prospects too quickly. Wasn’t long ago that HFBoards was ripping him non-stop when he put up just 2 points (1G, 1A) in his first 14 games with BC.

Yeah totally, I had to keep that in mind with Lucius to start this season and eventually he started rolling! I'd imagine the jump from Juniors to NCAA is pretty crazy! Most of the top end of that league is so well coached and there are a lot of big strong players. It's not surprising some players take longer to adapt and of course we see the same thing in the NHL over and over again! Sometimes of course that's just a product of stat watching where players are creating a lot of chances and playing good hockey but just not capitalizing.

This is what has jumped out at me from his game thus far in the league. For a guy who's not exactly a burner on the ice he's remarkably good at carrying the puck into the OZ.

Pretty small sample still but he's currently up to a 66% xgf in 7 games. Minnesota also moved him up to the first PP unit last night. He's came in and had about as good a start as anyone could have hoped.

He's been there for a couple games before last night.

Most likely wont get enoigh games to win the Calder this season, but him and Zegras are the best two rookies

Don’t forget Raymond and Seider, but yeah Boldy looks legit right now. Honestly looks like he could put up 70 points over a full season.

Mercer has impressed me. Maybe not the skill of Boldy, but fast, strong for a 2020, and has some skill. Boldy has some resemblance to Jason Robertson. Big, smart, not a burner, knows where the net is.

The other lesson to learn from that is that you actually need to watch the games. Anyone who was watching those games at the time could see he was still playing well and creating chances, the production just wasn't there.
