Not surprising. You don’t make that trade unless you’re prepared to offer Rantanen a massive deal.

The offer was in the 12.5ish range that was turned down in Colorado.
$11.75 according to Friedman.

Avs offer was 8 x $11.75 mil, Rant's agent ask was around $14 mil. After Rants was traded he went on record saying he would've taken less than Mack ($12.6 mil) to stay in Colorado....didn't he supposedly turn down close to that money already with the Avs, hence the reason they traded him??...

Okay, then Carolina offers him 13M per easy.
Oh so he says that after he is traded.
Then reject the Canes offer and sign with Colorado in the summer.

Bowman is dumb enough to do it. If he doesn’t get a cup this season, he’s going to do something stupid with the cap increase
I believe him. My assumption is that Rants told his agent to handle the negotiations, but if push comes to shove he would take less than Mack. The agent overplayed his hand thinking that the Avs wouldn't trade Rants.

Exactly this.
Or at least if you're going that big you do it for a Norris-level D or elite C (i.e. cornerstone positions) who you expect to age well. Guys like Hedman or Crosby to name two from a very short list.

Lindholm scored way less with Vancouver after he was traded, Boston signed him to a deal like that didn’t happen, and Lindholm is still scoring way less there

It's too bad Rantanen is a UFA this summer. Would like to see what Rantanen could do in a full season in Carolina. I doubt he puts up 100+ pts in Carolina with no MacKinnon and no Makar.
