probably rises above quite many but not yet above recent top 10 picks imo.
So: Drouin, Nurse, and Horvat?

Top 10 as in what? 2013 draft? Considering that 7 of those guys are playing in the NHL. I would say Drouin is the only CHL player that is better. Horvat and Nurse are fantastic prospects but Mantha has been out of this world this year. Also looking at that draft and if we're judging how this year has gone so far, Mantha moves up to the top-10 imo.
tempering this a bit, Mantha was also a mature pick, and in some cases is a year older than some of the other prospects
It's nice the Wings are finally playing well, and as a life long Wings fan, all I have to warn you is don't be cocky. This team is on a downward trend... Holland has made more than a few boneheaded moves in the last few years, and if it wasn't for Monster playing like he's never played before that record would be a lot different.

That hardly means anything, also let's not exaggerate the "one year older" crap. He's like 2-7 months older most of those guys in the first round and there are others with a similar birthday.
He's three months older than the average age of the players drafted with him. Pretty negligible
Matters a lot less with what Detroit has shown they do with this kind of prospects. That means next year he will be playing professional hockey and jump starting his career on anyone born after January that doesn't make an NHL roster.
Much like Frk and Jurco before him he is in his last season of junior hockey. But it has been pointed out he is just 14 months younger than Ouellet (2011) and a mere month and change than Athanasiou (2012) picks for Detroit.
But does he not gain on the back-end by going pro after this season? He will certainly learn more at that level than some of the January and later birthday guys that are stuck in junior the following season.
Seems Detroit actually likes this aspect on their players lately.
He's having a fantasic year, not taking that away from him. Detroit has struck gold with this guy, getting him at 22. I'm just saying it would be more impressive if he wasn't a late birthday, that's all.
An extreme comparision would be to point out a guy like Carter Verhaghe who was a 3rd round pick in the same draft. Currently he has 16 goals 43 points in 28 games.
Mantha has 30 goals 62 points in 28 games
But he is a almost a full year older than Verhaeghe. You can't say the late birthday has no effect. A more relevant comparision at this point would be compare the two players based on Mantha's draft year?! with his 89 point total!
Or to compare him to a guy that was drafted in 2012!

I threw out Carter not too long ago, I think Carter or Neal are probably best if he he hits the potential we hope he has.
Big guys, very good strides, awesome release, not very physical but can be, certainly will not be pushed around. Also guys that might be quiet but completely change a game on one shift and then light the rest of the game on fire.
Carter has that center versatility, but with him mostly playing out on the wing now, I see some similarities when I have caught Mantha. Obviously nothing is really perfect across the board, but what a joy it would be to have one of those type players in a Wings uniform soon.
Slow day for Mantha. Only 2 assists. Gives him 32+36=68 in 30 games
Somebody posted a list in the Wings forum when he was first drafted that showed what kind of company he is in for 50 goal scorers in the CHL. I believe they also said that a player who scores 50 or more goals in their draft year from the CHL has literally never busted.
Yes this quote is complete, meaning none of them have busted.I know history doesn't predict future; I know Mantha is late birthday; I didn't look at goal scoring pace but scamming though EP, here is a list of guys since 2002 that have scored over 50 goals in CHL on their draft year and busted:
the list itself is actually pretty impressive too:
guys that were drafted that put up 50 goals in the CHL the first year they were draft eligible since 2001-2002(there may have been one or two that put up 50 the first year they were eligible and then weren't drafted although that sounds unlikely it isn't something I checked):
Anthony Mantha
Jeff Skinner
John Tavares
Steven Stamkos
Patrick Kane
Sidney Crosby
Joffrey Lupul
Another PPG, puts him at 12 for this year
