Curious to see what happens with his team this month, I doubt they are going to be all that good without them. I would guess he is the difference in at least a couple positions in the standings, probably a bunch.

I don't think 10 years ago was all that different really, in fact with the obvious exception of Crosby and his Rimouski line mates, nearly every one of the top 10 scorers for 2012-13 outscored their counterparts in 2004-05..

rank 2012-13 …… 2004-05

#1 Ben Duffy 110 …… Sidney Crosby 168
#2 Jonathan Drouin 105 …… Dany Roussin 116
#3 Josh Currie 104 …… MA Pouiliot 114
#4 Peter Trainor 100 …… Maxim Boisclair 108
#5 Dmitrij Jaskin 99 …… David Desharnais 97
#6 Sven Andrighetto 98 …… Stanislav Lascek 90
#7 Alexandre Lavoie 96 …… Alex Bourret 86
#8 Zach O'Brien 92 …… Josh Hennessy 85
#9 Anton Zlobin 91 …… Alexandre Picard 85
#10 Anthony Mantha 89 …… Philippe Dupuis 84

I love how besides Crosby and Desharnais (who isnt that impressive), the rest are just complete busts.

Very happy for the Wings to have found a gem in the first round in Mantha, its well deserved for a franchise that never went the loser way..

With his size, Mantha will become a dominant goal scorer for many years in the NHL

Very good today, but a lot of credit should go to Drouin for setting him up.

One goal was a rebound where he was sitting in the perfect spot to bang in, the second goal was all him on a wrap around and the third goal was actually a nice feed from drouin

Drouin should be thankful he's playing with mantha those first two assists he got because he really had to do nothing to get them, especially the second one

Obviously he didn't. Probably just looked at the box score and made this beyond stupid statement.

I hope so. He needs to work on getting stronger, which should come as he ages, and skating and defensive play. We shall see how he does

He's 19. He will fill out as he develops. If he can get up to 215-220 at 6'4" he will be pretty hard to stop.

Out of his weaknesses, I don't think skating is one of them.

He's actually listed at 6'5" on the QMJHL site (if you wanna be picky)

I think the posters in the Red Wings board make a good point about how he seems to "float". From Guru Meditation:

If he doesn't have the puck, he looks a lot like he's trying to be a Brett Hull in that he wants to quietly lose coverage and then score. If he does have the puck, he shows off more playmaking and skating ability than you ever thought he had.

I think the Brett Hull-style game is what gets him the criticism. He doesn't want to be noticed; he wants to be under the radar until the last minute. Some take that to mean he's lazy. It's definitely true that he prefers to let other players do the dirty work.

What the hell is this? Mantha is an excellent skater, especially considering his size

He is but he can get better from what I have seen. I am not knocking him at all. To me he is the wings second best forward after Jurco. I realize he is 19 and will Get stronger and become better at most things as he matures but there is always something you can work on..

Wings will cook in the minors until he rounds out his game. Quality organisation.

I personally hope they don't cook him in the minors for that long. I understand that he has size and he'll be pressured to play a certain way by his coaches. But this is a kid that needs to improve and refine his game, not change it.

Most likely he'll play in the AHL next year, if he can carry on his goal scoring dominance, there's no reason for them to keep him down there more than that.

Right, have him play in the AHL last year and give him some call ups with injuries throughout the season. If he looks good, maybe he can get some playoff games as well. Babcock loves size.
