I was also just making the argument that since dubas got here, he has signed Sullivan types and it fails. The acciaris, nietos, etc. that we bitch about are all sully types.

There are plenty of reasons to fire him, I’m just saying not making the playoffs for a third straight year should seal it. If we happen to squeak in by some miracle, he’ll still be around.

Actually, that's a really good comment and I think it speaks to "other reasons why it is important to fire Sullivan". Not only is he not getting the most out of the rosters he's been given but the roster he WANTS, is not an effective roster in the NHL in 2025. The "Mike Sullivan Hockey Train" is waaaaaay behind the times.

Like if you get Misa or Martone or another quality offensive talent, will Sullivan actually nurture that talent? For the future of the franchise, you can't allow Sullivan to ruin a top 3 pick.

This isn't a pro-Sullivan argument, but firing Sullivan for not making the playoffs when Dubas' moves since the last trade deadline were:

-Trade Guentzel for futures
-Trade Smith for futures
-Sign Lizotte, Grzelcyk and Beauvillier in free agencyfair enough
-Get paid futures to take on Hayes
-Get paid futures to take on Glass
-Trade Eller for futures
-Trade Pettersson and O'Connor for futures

Seems to not be very fair towards Sullivan. He should be fired at this point, but him getting fired for not making the playoffs this year doesn't seem really fair with the roster that Dubas has given him.
fair enough, i will take that one off the list, so there are only 375 reasons to fire him now. not bad at all. i  you sully

Sullivan simply put placed his team in jeopardy once he told GMJR get these tough guys out of here. Pens had the Ranger beat until the Rangers went to goon mode and took out Rakell, Sid and Sullivan simply killed that series despite a poor goalie. Sullivan has to go for his insistence in not playing a more balanced game. He may be aware that Dubas no longer wants Sullivan smurfs and adjusts his nonsensical coaching,

Up 3-1 and you can't seal the deal.
Disco got fired for the exact same thing (blowing 3-1 series leads).

Sullivan basically has every humiliating loss in his arsenal now. Sweep, 3-1 series lead blown, play-in loss, consecutive playoff misses. Shame he wasn't able to get a 3-0 reverse sweep in while the team was good as well

I think the lack of young players playing is just as much on Dubas as it is on Sullivan. Boko Imama isn't up because Sullivan is pounding on the table for him to come up. They absolutely could call up Ponomarev and have him play, but Dubas is the one deciding to keep him down. I understand it's about wanting to let them play for a winning AHL team rather than a losing NHL team, but Ponomarev becomes waiver eligible next year and they need to give him a shot in the NHL this year.

I'm mostly whatever on Koivunen and McGroarty staying in the AHL for the rest of this year, but Ponomarev absolutely should be up. Especially with how hot he has been recently.

Has any beat writer provided an explanation on the call up of Imama? I mean, it's fun to see the guy and I'm rooting for him but given the struggles as of late and the "goals", this seems like such a counter-productive move.

If Sullivan was capable of coaching the team they wouldn't be selling.

That's absolutely silly. Coaching is a major problem on this team and Sullivan should have been fired years ago, but there is zero chance that a team with a core this old was going to be a playoff team at this point. Sullivan wasted the 2018-2023 years by being a shitty coach, but where the team is now was guaranteed to be the case.

This team is selling at this point because the core is full of a bunch of upper 30s players who have rapidly declined from where they were, and they have no young players to help them due to how the 3 GMs have ran this team since about 2018.
