Mud slinging? What are you even talking about? Did you even bother to read my posts? I'm presenting facts and stats, not slinging mud. Maybe read before posting, buddy.

No because your posts are garbage.

You are basing "Facts" on AHL numbers. That has nothing to do with how prospects will turn out. There are tons of career AHLers that do fantastic in that league and when they get the call to the big club they are awful.

You are telling Wings fans how bad he will be based on how many points he had last year. Its a dumb argument. These guys watch their farm club a lot. Im pretty sure they know what they are talking about over some keyboard warrior posting a bunch of stats who has (i would wager) never watched ONE grand rapids game this year.

Once again, there are TONS of guys who have struggled in the AHL and got it once they got called up. Tons of guys who light up the AHL and suck in the NHL. To sit there and say with absolute confidence Mantha isnt a top 6 player is a load of garbage.

Actually there is a very strong correlation between AHL numbers and how a player turns out. To say it has nothing to do with predicting how Mantha or any other prospect will turn out is just not true.
And, if we just relied on the fans of a team to tell us how a prospect is doing and didn't base the assessment at least in part on stats, then we'd think virtually every first round pick is doing well. Believe me this is true for any fan base.

I think it's entirely fair to say that looking at Mantha's stats in the NHL that there are concerns about his offensive potential. What's wrong with that?

Sure.

Shots this season: 21 (in 7 games played)
Shooting percentage last season: 10.7%
Did it over the course of 70 games (so just multiple by 10 to go from 7gp to 70gp)

21 x 10 = 210 shots over the course of the season.
10.7% of 210 = 22.47 (round down to 22)

Assists last season = 18 (.29 assists per game)

.29 x 70 = 20.3 (round down to 20)

22 goals + 20 assists + 2 point he has this season = 44 points over the course of 77 games (Which there are only 76 games in an AHL season)

Hopefully my math is correct, I'm certainly no mathematician and it could be off.
This math means literally nothing though. Of course if he produces at the same rate as last year he will end up with similar production.

Right now there's not much sense in continuing this discussion. Mantha has a lot to prove and we will need to wait and see what happens. In 10-20 games we should have a better idea of what's going on with him.

Players struggle sometimes to find their way. Im not going to sit here and use injuries and systems as an excuse but to speak in absolutes the way people have been talking is silly. Jason Krug had good years in the AHL but failed horribly with the big club. Every single player is different. Just because he hasnt set the world on fire yet does not mean he is not going to be a top 6 player in this league.

I disagree. If he puts up similar numbers to last season that's actually an upgrade from what he's doing right now. He'd need to take a big step forward in order to get to PPG.

I do agree on there being no use in continuing this discussion, however. I also agree more games will show more of what we can except. I can only present so many facts and stats and have them continuously ignored. I'll be keeping an eye on Mantha during the Leafs vs. Griffins games this season. Enjoy the season, I'm sure we'll resume this discussion later on in the season. :P

Riley Sheahan is a good example of being "meh" in the AHL but making it work at the NHL level

Absolutely no doubt about that.

I agree with that. Way too early to write the guy off. I think it's fair to say though that there have to at least be concerns about his offensive production from a purely statistical point of view. But every prospect is different. Some just take longer to be NHL ready. He's still got lots of time to figure out that part of the game. There's no question he has the tools. It's just a question as to whether he can put it all together.

I also agree we can't speak in absolutes, and I haven't been. I can't quote the other guy, but I will agree on that point. I'm sure everyone will notice I've been using plenty of "IFs" and "COULDs" and "MIGHTs".

Absolutely no doubt about that.

That is what we're here for after all. :dunno:

Stats aren't facts now? Okay, another great post buddy.

If AHL stats are everything then I am extremely excited about Teemu Pulkennen's NHL career. He should be a multiple rocket richards winner for many years to come. If that's the case, DRWs don't need Mantha in the top 6. They already have too many superb top 6 wingers... Mantha can use his big body, speed, strenght and hockey IQ to tear up the 3rd line.

Oh definitely. I come here to read uninformed opinions from those that never watch the prospect they're talking about.

The griffins are the ducks of the AHL right now. It's dumb to form opinion based on their stats atm.

i got roasted here for telling everyone to slow down on the hype his size advantage was much greater in jr's, than it is in pro hockey he can't just bully people with it at this level

You got criticized for having no idea how he plays? That is a shocker. Mantha has been consistently criticized for not using his size; he was never someone that used his size to dominate juniors. Not that I'm trying to excuse his lackluster stats thus far but you clearly have never watched him play.

Another 4 shots tonight with nothing to show for it. The entire team is just in a big slump right now. Again they outshot their opponents handily (by 20) and still lost 4-1

Just checked the stat sheet, yep he only had 4 shots on goal. That is a sure fire bust numbers right there. :naughty:

I am sorry but the latter is more common than the first.

This is a strange comment.
