what has his agent spilled in the media? Marner came out day 1 in training camp and said to the media and fans, he's not negotiating, he's focused on this season and nothing else. I don't know why fans are now acting surprised that he's going to test UFA?? Also as you said, we don't know for sure. It could be the leafs who put that out or Ferris or anyone. But I dont think it's earth shattering news that he's going to test. It's kinda why everyone was screaming for the leafs to make a move in 2023 after florida. We all saw it coming.
The haters want Mitch gone, when his behaviour indicates he is going to test the market and possibly leave through free agency, they are upset... make that make sense... are we breeding logic and common sense out of people?

Unless it comes directly out of Mitch's mouth or Tre's mouth, its made up bullshit to manipulate the gullible.

Did you hear Bennett is coming here ... ;)

Nope. You are still confused and not understanding after being explained to multiple times. Nonsense has very little affect on me.
You can cry, bitch, moan, double down or fain ignorance. It doesn't matter to me. I am not emotionally involved even outside of the board I have a stoic philosophy

it's crazy but I'm convinced that it's just reality has slapped people in the face. This guy really might walk and we get nothing and I think people always believed deep down he'll probably end up signing. But facing that reality is tough for fans.. I get it, no one wants to hear that a player may not want to be here.

in the same breath, Mitch cannot be upset that fans feel pissed off. It's just a shitty situation. The same people that were preaching we shouldn't sign him until after the playoffs are now the same people pissed off that he's not signing. Mitch is f***ed either way. If he signs today and they get dummied in the first round, he will be the guy who gets blamed, so why the hell would he sign now? People are only looking at it from the fan perspective and not actually being rational about the situation.

The only guy being emotional and crying is you lol. All you had to say was "oh I understand" but again, it doesn't seem like you do.

Yeah, I get it. You are upset that your opinion is not universally accepted. You are still entitled to it, but there's other opinions.

I suppose you just make up the statistics.
This is the kinda stuff that I just laugh at.

A VERY large percentage of our fans (bless them all) love the Leafs and want the best for them. They get upset and happy and ride the fandom rollercoaster up and down. They yell - they scream. Cool.

So many, do not even really understand hockey or what they are even looking at on a deeper level. They focus on box scores.

Post game threads highlight meaningless accomplishments. Goals are great, we know. It’s not everything though.

I’ve seen a couple times, where a player does nothing the whole game, but gets a great bounce or feed and shoots it into an almost empty net (goalie out position). The post game thread is full of oh “player X was great tonight”.

You saying check the NHL stats is the exact same thing. I’m not a hater, but to say Marner was good last night is unintelligent.

Who are you going to replace for Marner? It would be a huge loss and the Leafs won't just be eliminated 1st round, they won't even make the playoffs.
15 other teams make the playoffs without Marner, so I’m sure it’s a possibility.

This organization has no balls and will cave to his demands, so unless he willingly leaves, he will be back

No, I was checking a claim made on the board. It wasn't accurate.

they'll only delete since you couldn't comprehend simple explanations lol
No. That is not factual.

If Marner doesn't want to be here, that would be music to my ears at this point. Much preferable IMHO to another massive contract for a guy who turns into a middle 6 forward after 86 games. That's the reality, and it's been slapping people in the face for so many years, I got tired of it years ago which is why I suggested moving him after losing to MTL in the playoffs.

Nope. I didn't want to sign him until after the playoffs so why in the world would I be pissed that he's not signing? You're not making sense here, sorry.

Assuming he'll be the one that gets blamed is insane, stop with these delusional fantasies. If he plays well, he'll get credit for playing well and if he doesn't, he'll get criticized and this will be the case no matter how the team does.
People are only looking at it from the fan perspective and not actually being rational about the situation.
Strange comment considering we're all fans here, what other perspective could we possibly be looking at it from? I think I've always been pretty rational about the Leafs, this post on the other hand has a number of things that seem irrational

should have traded Nylander when he had two years at 6.5 left, his value would have been so high

my guess they'll resign marner for 8 x 13.5 now , losing him for nothing is not a good look unless they turn it into pionk and bennett
Should have traded Marner after losing to MTL when he still had 4 years left, the return would have been massive. Nylander is the only star player we have who doesn't fade away as the playoffs progress, not sure why anyone wouldn't want to keep him. Unless your one of those people who values regular season over the playoffs, then that makes sense.

Is that where you're coming from? Regular season >>> playoffs?

I have you on ignore btw. Just wanted to let you know, since you’ve been attempting to at me for the last three weeks LOL. Thought you’d honestly get the hint by now, but I guess I have to be explicit and say it so you stop wasting your time. I have no idea why you think this world revolves around you and you always think my posts are about you specifically.

Back to regularly scheduled programming.

I don't know what "attempting to at me" means, sorry. I also don't care who you have or don't have on ignore - I pay attention to posts, not posters.

What makes you think I take orders from you? If you're upset that I called out the nonsense in your post, maybe you should think about that and stop posting nonsense. I'm also not the only one calling out your nonsense, maybe that's something else for you to think about.
I have no idea why you think this world revolves around you and you always think my posts are about you specifically.
LOLOL. What a strange thing to say. I would think your posts are mostly about the Leafs, why in the world would I think your posts are about me?

OK.

Edit - just wanted to say that you often post things that make a lot of sense. Sometimes however, you post things that are so weird, I can't help but comment on it. I don't want to upset anyone though so tell you what, next time I see you make a post I agree with I'll click on that like button, maybe I'll even quote you and give you a thumbs up. I just want to be clear that it's not like I always disagree with you, far from it. Cheers!

Marner isn't the only good player on this team. Matthews and Nylander would still be here. They'll be fine as long as they use his cap space wisely.

Agreed, if they spend the cap properly we can still have a competitive team. Before the deadline I was hoping they’d keep some assets so that we could buy low on some young players teams were ready to give up on if we move off Marner.

Now it’s squarely going to be picking right through UFA. We certainly shouldn’t be afraid to let Marner walk if things don’t go well in the playoffs but future success hinges on managements decisions there after.

The Nylander and Marner contract stuff is not even close to being the same. Nylander held out, but was very professional throughout. He didn't communicate through the media or anything like that. It was a normal contract dispute without the toxicity.

Marner on the other hand started threatening with offer sheets to gain more power, and was acting immature throughout. After signing, he makes a I love Toronto video to pretend everything is good.

Exactly. Spend the money on some guys who's play doesn't massively drop off after 86 games and maybe we'll even be competitive next time we find ourselves in a game 7 situation. Not much time left though, the D is old as f***, the star forwards are either about to decline or declining already, I figure we have at best, 1 maybe 2 seasons left after this one before it's time to tear it all down and start over. I just hope they don't f*** around for another decade or two before admitting it's time to rebuild or I might not live to see it. I mean of course I also hope that this group can get it done but ... (rolleyes.gif)

Exactly he had an assist and a shoot goal so he was great when assist was the result of playing at the point on the power play a routine pass that wasn’t even in the wheel house for a one timer a delayed shot by nylander and a shoot out goal never mind the power play entries and stupid drop passes he was off yesterday Hes allowed to be but the excuses and the blind admiration and lying is crazy work

You hope that marner gets signed 100 percent and takes us to the cleaners for 14 mil ……… yeah no thank you I take nylander at 11.5 before I even look at marner for 13 plus I guarantee you we’d be a worst team our second line would be under water

Marner is probably worth 12m

Problem is we already have a franchise winger and he is less of a headache.

You only need one franchise winger to win a cup.
I mean it’s too bad we cant trade one of them for assets but it’s life we can still build a team without the trade

I can’t wait til the pond hoccey doesn’t work lol same as every year

No I agree with all of that 100% The organization hurts itself by getting into all these positions though. That's the basketcase part. If it's not contract fussing, it's play style changes mid rebuild or anything else you can imagine. They need to be more cut throat and less nice. Morning business and less worried about public perception. That is if winning is priority 1
Shanahan hired dubas who obviously didnt learn a f***ing thing from lou
Not sure what the answer is but why marner seems to be always drama is quite troubing
I think in his mind hes better than everyone of his peers

I explained the evidence to you about 10 times. My position is based on what GMs have actually done.

NHL.com has primary assist data.

You see goal scorers and playmakers.

You're mixing up two different things. GMs would be aware of the average offensive impact of different point types.

That's not what happened. I put in the work to evaluate how different stats and factors correlate with contract history data, and took the position that GMs act how they have historically acted - which also aligns with the on ice impact. You are the one arbitrarily deciding that GMs discriminate based on playstyle and pay some notable amount more for goals than primary assists, even though there is zero evidence that that is true.

Chris Johnston literally compared the two today and again cited rantanen as a better goal scorer and that in equal markets Marner would be below him. He never once mentioned primary points. Neither have any players/gms/insiders. I drove Not a single “hockey person” has mentioned primary points in arbitration and negotiations. Ever. But you just tell us they do, and it’s all a secret. You know what NHl GMs do because 3 computers ago you looked at contracts and decided. Even though the people who actually talk to the people or Are the people who sign the contracts don’t mention it.

All of the countless hours talking about and debating contracts literally zero people ever have suggested what you are suggesting. But you know better. As always. You just decide you know things.

There is no evidence, no proof, no examples. Just trust me bro. I did the work 5 years ago.
You have zero evidence that’s what they do. You just keep saying that you analyzed data and came up with the right answer. I literally taught stats in grad school. I can tell you, most people suck at them. What if you don’t know what you are doing? You expect people to believe you are the authority on all things contracts because you think you know stats? Oooookay

Here.

Look at the sport trac data. Go back to 2011-2012.

You will see a lot of goal scorers. Who is a goal scorer and who is a playmaker in the lists. It’s not perfect and some playmakers will make more than some goal scorers based on ufa/twins etc.

I see a lot of Nash/vanek/staal/vinny making more than spezza/briere/backstrom etc.

Heck Marleau made more % aav than Thornton.

Rick Nash was a top 5 cap hit in the league one year with 57 pts. He was paid as a rocket winner not a 57 pt player

NHl GMs value goals. They always have more than assists. They don’t differentiate between primary and secondary assists in contracts. It’s pretty easy

You do not recall Nylander holding out until December?

And signing a completely fair market value contract.
