Islanders sure could use a goal scorer. Man they looked like garbage, what happened to this team ?

Also shoutout to Campbell and his unsustainable goaltending performance to carry us again....:sarcasm:

Covid isn't any fun! I've had a nasty bug the past 2 weeks, probably covid, feels like an intense never ending flu bug and that's with me double vaxxed. I can only imagine how it's impacting people who haven't gotten vaxxed yet.

That sucks man. Take care. Given we are just getting into winter gotta be extra careful.

I hope to God nobody gets the mixture of covid and flu

The meat heads saying this is what Mike Babcock and Lou were trying to do here, are the ones who call “Dumbass” a nerd, yet don’t realize that this kind of defensive structure is analytically driven.

the only problem is it’s the truth, they did try to get the team to play this way. Problem was Lou didn’t go out and get the right guys to make it effective. Kyle finally has, getting TJ Brodie and Muzzin was God Sent. Additionally Morgan said it in his press conference last week, the whole core has finally bought into playing team defense. So that supports my theory, they just flat out refused to do so in the early days for whatever reason. They were more concerned about scoring, but that doesn’t seem to matter to them as much. Ultimately they’ve just matured as players.

What are you on about? Lou brought in Andersen (top 10 goalie), traded for Hyman, he was responsible for drafting Matthews (I could be wrong), his only glaring f_ck up was the Marleau deal IMO! The problem wasn't the GM per day, it's like you said the "young core" couldn't be bothered to play team defense, that speaks much more volumes to their emotional immaurity at the time. Now? They are approaching their mid to late 20's as a core, it's natrual they would evolve and stop being selfish little kids out there, and you would be correct, they have come a long way in the team defensive department.

Islanders looked and played like a team that has just lost 6 in a row.... over the last 3 games the Leafs look like a team about to go into an extended losing streak.

How you take that performance last night and take that as a projection of loses to come is beyond me. That is about as clean and dominate a win as you can ask for in the NHL. The Islanders generated absolutely nothing all night long.

Lou didn't trade for Hyman. He inherited him from Dubas.

Lou's additions to the team:

Anderson
McElhinney
Hainsey
Martin
Marleau
Zaitsev
Grabner
Carrick
Boyle
Plekanec
Borgman
Boyes
Moore
Pickard
Michalek
Laich
Greening
Cowen

And the young core immediately started playing defense the moment Keefe arrived.

Failed spectacularly, then.

Problem was Lou didn’t go out and get the right guys to make it effective. Kyle finally has, getting TJ Brodie and Muzzin was God Sent.

So Kyle >>> Lou at adding grit and defense.

The young core was suddenly good defensively the moment Keefe took over. Weird development.

Which is the case with the majority of young players who scored as a junior.

It's how they made the NHL and pretty much why they were all first round picks.

Hopefully they have all bought in 100% and we can finally watch this team turn rhe corner.

Weren't the Islanders missing 6 guys last night due to covid protocols?

Not trying to troll or anything, but watching this game tonight, how the Bud's played for possession, how they shut down their own end and kept the Isles to the outside and didn't allow anything to go through the middle.

Was exactly the way Babs was trying to get them to play. It's great hockey and I think and hope they finally got it.

Maybe he should have tried to work with the players instead of being an archaic asshole who would force the game on them.

Hyman was a Dubas move

Lou did nothing to build the D or provide any vet leadership to mould the young core.

I'm not forgetting that it's November not April. Adversary will come. They're doing what they need to do while they have a largely healthy lineup.

Positives:

1. great game by Woll. If he continues this perhaps we can rid ourselves of injury prone Mrazeks cap hit

2. Kampf-Kate continue to be extremely productive as a third line.

3. Good defensive structure even though we were careless with the puck at times.

Negatives:

1. the power play

2. Tavares needs Marner

3. Nylander with his worst game in a long time

4. Offence still not clicking.

He actually registered a shot on goal. That is 2 in 3 games. He has been in the dumpster for a bit. The one against the pens was worse IMO

Yeah he was pretty mediocre against the Pens as well but I thought he looked more disinterested in this one and often beaten to the puck. That penalty in the third was bad on his part. Just the eye test but he was poor in both games.

He'll bounce. Everyone goes through a slump

Nylander played a little scared last night, thought he was past that but it was apparent last night.
Seems to be something we just need to get use to at this point.

Smart. Best not to get too up when things are going well and not get too down when they're not. I've lost count of how many "expected cups" have been celebrated by the resident geniuses around here the last few Novembers that haven't even come close to materializing.

He's asked Keefe to push him. I'm sure he will get pushed.
On a list of concerns I have of this team, he isn't on it at this point.
Nope he's been fine this year, seems to have matured a bit.
Like I said, the shying away is just something we need to get use to. Doesn't look like it will change at this point.

The other one is a work in progress in terms of self-improvement. Although some of it I have to admit is a bit of a performative exercise of catharsis and entertainment.
