In my opinion Markov was one of the most under rated players to ever play the game. How he was never in any serious Norris conversations.....
Dont Know Emoticon
His 'personnality"... or lack of.

Malakov What a beauty.Would look Elite in the present NHL .
6-4 220 lbs
Elite Skating.Elite Shot(wrister)PP,PK.
Shut down the Pens one playoff series.

If the Habs had any thoughts on Logan as a forward,Iam sure they would have talked to Dale Hunter of the London Knights.
Habs badly need a D-man like Mailloux. He could be our next Souray. And with Hutson down the road, the perfect PP pair for years to come.

You’re presuming ‘they’ can think outside of the proverbial box. Heck, most sport management teams have difficulty thinking cogently/ effectively inside or outside the box.

Xhekaj is pretty good too on the PP, he's got 3 goals on the PP, and a great wrist shot too, very similar to Mailloux, but they don't use him.

Malakhov was a freak of nature. He and Richer were the two most physically talented players that I ever saw play for Montreal in my more than 60 years of following the Canadiens.

More than Kovalev?

Lafleur, Kovalev and Robinson are easily in that group as well.

Just imagine if Lafleur wasn't a chain-smoker. Dude was smoking on the bench.

The smoking on the bench thing never actually happened....just a myth based on the fact that he was an avid smoker. Ken Dryden addressed it in "The Game" which is a must read for any Hab fan imo. There is tons of Hab footage from the Lafleur years and you will never see it.....Bowman even said it was purely fiction. Lafleur was known to smoke a dart in the washroom between periods but absolutely never during a game. Interestingly Lafleur claims that there were about 10 of them that would sneak cigarettes between periods. Even then they had to hide it from Bowman so the notion that he was smoking on the bench is pure nonsense and it just goes to show how easily absurdities get passed around as facts by the general public.

Pretty insane how people took a true story about Lafleur smoking between periods and invented a story about Lafleur smoking on the bench. Fake News. We are truly living in the future.

Dunno. I'm an old man now. I remember people smoking in planes, doctors smoking in hospitals. There were ashtrays everywhere. People would smoke mid-meal.

Johnny Carson would smoke on the down low while the camera was fixed on his guest. We're talking in the eighties and he would hide his ashtray in his desk. So no, I don't believe it's that far-fetched that some hockey players are inveterate smokers or that back in the seventies people would smoke everywhere. Jebus, there are tons of marathon runners that are smokers to this day.

Oh, I remember people smoking everywhere and anywhere but the Lafleur story is confirmed to be 100% false. Lafleur himself laughs at it and openly admits that he snuck cigarettes between periods but it was not possible on the bench and nobody would dare risk it with Bowman. Tons of pro athletes smoked in the seventies but like I said, he would have been caught on camera at some point and every teammate ever asked about it denies that Guy ever smoked on the bench. It is a fun myth to share but was not remotely based on facts.

Mailloux will soon have more goals this season alone than Jackeye had in 4 OHL seasons including an overage season. Not a knock on Jackeye whatsoever as he is strong in so many areas but Mailloux has an all star NHL wrist shot.

Mailloux could be good pairing with Hutson someday. Due to his size and mobility
Why do you say "could," it's going the be a thing and the other teams won't be able to defend against them.

Villages will be burned.

I heard Lafleur recount the story in person. Bowman was a tough S*B as coach.

Bad idea. Both Mailloux and Hutson will need a steady eddy to pair with. Both are not known to be build from the back end out. They are build from the offensive side in and have to learn reliability in the D zone.

Put Hutson with Xhekaj and Mailloux with Guhle. That's what I think today anyways.

Maybe Mailloux and Hutson fit on the PP together.

Yes that's how I have it if Hutson can hack it as a dman 5 on 5:

Guhle Mailloux
Hutson Xhekaj
Harris Barron
Kovacevic

Engstrom, Struble, Trudeau, Fairbrother will try to challenge this.

If Hutson can't play D 5 on 5, but rather is a pp specialist and 5 on 5 forward:

Guhle Mailloux
Xhekaj Barron
Harris Kovacevic
Engstrom, Struble, Trudeau, Fairbrother

Damn spelling.
Actually, it was a great typo as it offered an opportunity to go on a tangent.

Let’s enjoy this since we’re all going to be replaced by AI in a few years.

Agreed. For me, ideally, our future defense looks something like this:

Chychrun-Mailloux
Guhle-Barron
Hutson-Xhekaj

I don't see us trading for Chychrun. A 3 year value contract then a massive raise is not a piece I would trade for. Maybe we sign him as a UFA? Sure but that is a few years away from now. Lots can change by then.

I'm very curious on how our back end shapes out. I see the Habs drafting a lot more D in the next two drafts.

Which is why I said future defense.

It is somewhat counter-productive if your supposed power house offensive defenceman contributes one goal per game but allows 1.5 goals against. Mailloux has enormous offensive upside but is somewhat clueless in the defensive zone.
Somebody should tell Dale Hunter that. Isaiah George and him usually draw the other teams top line and kill penalty minutes as well
