Prospect Info: Logan Mailloux Part 3 The Only Hockey Talk Thread

Yup, can do it on his backhand too. Just like Guhle did on the Suzuki goal vs Pens.

Kids puck handling is fine.

He needs playing time more than anything, and defensive zone play is not that hard to teach.
London has their D play on their off side during PPs. Mailloux looked comfortable doing it.

Looked to me that he had plenty of ice time during the time I watched, which is exactly what he needs.

Love Maillioux. Not worried about his defensive game either. It will come.
In his first game back after a major injury, Mailloux showed brief glimpses of his enormous offensive potential. His combination of size, explosive skating, offensive vision and shot make him, in this observer’s opinion, Montreal’s most dynamic prospect. If he stays healthy , Mailloux projects to be a star in the NHL. I haven’t been as excited about a Montreal prospect since I watched Stephane Richer skate away from Russian players with comparative ease at the 1985 WJC.

I don't disagree with what you're saying.

But to add to it, a dman in today's game has to think the game well and quickly. If he can't do that, all the offense in the world won't make up for all the defensive lapses. Mike Green comes to mind. So let's hope he can do that.

Even if Mailloux largely serves as a one dimensional defenceman who’s role revolves around being a power play specialist, he will have a material impact on the team. Mailloux skates as well as, if not better, than any of our other heralded young defencemen and has a first past, offensive vision and shot that is superior to them. And this kid has only played 18 games in the OHL. Mailloux’s potential is immense. My favourite play by Mailloux last night was his off balance one time slap shot from the point that almost decapitated the Owen Sound goaltender.

Just picture Mailloux in three years being fed by Hutson or Suzuki on Montreal’s power play. And that option will be open because teams will have to be defending Caufield off the half boards. With Slafkovsky in front of the net waiting for those inevitable rebounds.

The good times are coming.

I think Brent Burns is the right comparable. Even if he’s more of a rover he will still be a star and provide immense value.

I deal with soccer too. And softball; and track; and 14 other individual and team sports. I can't tell which sport brings out the worse in the expectant parent. But soccer is up there. Really up there.
I promote my leagues:
Does your child have what it takes to become Pro? Has he/she been Scouted? Have you attended Showcase tournaments?
Then our league is definately not for you. 😇

He has his first point already, it will probably feel nice to get that out of the way. He'll need some time obviously, he's all sorts of rusty and he's looking very tentative. I'm confident he'll find his groove in a week or two. The good news is that with the puck on his stick he hasn't missed a beat at all.

This season is all about playing games and producing offense. Getting his ice time is important due to the lack of games he has played over the last year or two.

Defensive structure is something he will have to also learn. In the CHL, he's going to be OK. Once he turns pro, it's going to be a work in progress. That's likely to take several years. Depends on his ability to adapt to new challenges along the way.

Above the curve in terms of offensive ability. Below the curve in terms of defensive reliability and playing smart. Development with Mailloux is all about maturity in his own end. On the offensive end, let him do his thing.

Guhle: Build from the back end out. More offense can come later as he gains experience.
vs
Mailloux: Build from the front end in. Better defensive play can come later has he gains experience.

Having all of them hit their potential with Hutson being insulated sounds like the perfect match. Lol I’m ready to get ahead of myself

Habs fans are nervous to be high on prospects due to the past failures. We really do have a great group of guys and we are loaded with fringe grade A's or B+ types that can turn into gems if they develop well and several are on good development tracks.

I think it's OK to be optimistic to some degree. Not all will turn into who we want them to be but some will. If we go 1/3 and continue to maintain high draft power and draft/develop well, we will come out of this very good.

Agreed. If he can't figure out the defensive part overtime, then he is just not that smart enough in the hockey IQ area and even with this skating/offensive skills won't get him far when he turns pro. If you're smart enough to be able to produce offense with your skills, you're also smart enough to learn/adapt to how to be more effect defensively. It's a matter of fucus and will power to be better in all areas.

I have faith. Just needs ice time and to produce in the CHL this year. Then he turns pro and works on his defensive game against men. It will be a process but I really do think that we will have a stud once he is 22/23. Age 19-21 years will be development years and he is someone who likely will play 1 or 2 years of AHL time.

This is a prospect I would not rush to the NHL. Barron is a bit older and more NHL ready so he takes a RD spot before Mailloux. Savard, Kovacevic, Barron and Eddy can play RD. Mailloux will be ready to take Savard's spot once his contract expires.

When you have a 19 year old prospect that is 6’3” , can skate like the wind, has a first pass the equal of Subban and already has a elite level shot, one should be optimistic. Does it mean that Mailloux will develop into that elusive top pairing defenceman? There are few certainties in the development of teen aged athletes in any sport. But any casual observer of the game last night would readily recognize that Mailloux possess an array of tools that makes him an intriguing prospect.

Apparently there were quite a few NHL scouts at the game last night and who were able to watch Mailloux’s play after his lengthy layoff. I have little doubt that they will be reporting that Mailloux is the real deal and that in the near future he will be factor that will have to be taken into consideration when playing the Canadiens.

No doubt about it. He stands out on the ice with his size/skating/skill attributes. A very intriguing prospect.

What did he do in that game to justify the hype all of a sudden. People seems to be somewhat down on him in recent months and he has not played at all during the Habs training camp.

Did he look that good?

I originally thought he had the highest ceiling. Then Guhle started to take off. Now Mailloux will make his case.

At any rate we have both of them. It doesn't matter who's better, as long as they're both good.

Knights seem quite bad this season. If Knights are eliminated early, Mailloux can join Rocket at the end of the season, right ?
