Snap shot of Mailloux after 1:

Defensively: poor clear up boards led to a goal. He was the one on a 2 on 1, slid to the ice on an attempt to sweep puck away, but missed. It ended up working because Mailloux is huge. Guy couldn't get the puck around his body.

Offensively: beast. Almost split the D on a drive up ice. Power wrister from blueline causes rebound.

Physically: big & plays like it.

He's barely played last 2 years, so his defensive play is a work in progress.
Hope he comes along good because our future right side be in good hands with him, Barron and Hutson

You do know that he has barely played last 2 years and that it was his first period of the season ? his defensive passive game is the point you bring ? lol

lol. How many years of playing hockey do you need when a guy is completely beside him and you don't pokecheck him or just be the bigger guy? You do know that I'm not asking him to be in perfect position on the system right? You do know that I'm not asking him to score 3 goals a game right? You can make the difference between plays that DO take longer time to adjust and just be stronger on a guy you are fighting with?

You do know that it's also something he used to do BEFORE this year? He glided and puck watch to much. And look at the reports BEFORE the injury and you'll surprisingly say the same freakin comments...

He has his first point already, it will probably feel nice to get that out of the way. He'll need some time obviously, he's all sorts of rusty and he's looking very tentative. I'm confident he'll find his groove in a week or two. The good news is that with the puck on his stick he hasn't missed a beat at all.

Just a small note...I'm not calling him a bust.....But he will need in the next 2-3 years to seriously work on his defensive game. Offense is impressive. But he will have to just learn to not be sorry to be the big guy he is. He could crush everybody.

I'm confident he'll get to a point where he's at least average defensively. He's just a puppy with big paws right now with so few games played, he needs to grow .

They did talk about him not getting penalties and not getting into fights because he has to play a lot of TOI and a lot of games due to missing so much time.

Maybe that's why he looked passive defensively today. He'll find the right range between passivity and aggressivity.

Defenseman Sam Dickinson (#3) looks damn good. I was surprised to see he was only 16 years old and not yet drafted. Hell, he's only 2024 eligible.

Mailloux's first pass is always on the tape in the 15-20 mins I've watched. I already knew he could rush the puck, but I wasn't sure about his first pass (which is more important for NHL imo). Glad to see that.

Yeah, the play from the dots in needs work, but the transition game, both passing and puck moving is very good. I saw a particularly great escape in the third followed by a tape to tape pass to the forward, but London just had a tough time doing anything once in the O zone.

Yup, can do it on his backhand too. Just like Guhle did on the Suzuki goal vs Pens.

Kids puck handling is fine.

He needs playing time more than anything, and defensive zone play is not that hard to teach.

Mailloux, Guhle and Xhekaj all hitting their potential would make the defence a nightmare to play against. I have two hopes for Mailloux: that he stays healthy this year as London will give him the play time and that he has more off ice smarts than Beaulieu.

Having all of them hit their potential with Hutson being insulated sounds like the perfect match. Lol I’m ready to get ahead of myself
