Mailloux going to be good player for very long time. He's only 20, devolving fast.
He had a great game tonight. He looks wayyyy more poised than I imagined he would be.Mailloux going to be good player for very long time. He's only 20, devolving fast.
2 years lol. This guy is gonna be in the NHL sooner than people think. No way does he last 2 years in the AHL
Indeed a bad comparison... He's actually a Fox 2.0 with more offense. Their game is all about deception and anticipation with world class vision, skating is nothing special except for Hutson incredible edges.Karlsson and Hughes are far better skaters than Hutson can ever dream of becoming and both are sub par defensive players.......it is a poor comparison from the get go.
Hutson's upside is far more likely as a sheltered 3rd pairing PP specialist.
Considering he played against star players he was bound to have a few downsHe had some ups and downs today, but you can tell he’s going to be a stud once he gets comfortable in the NHL.
For sure, that was the Leafs A roster and he didn’t look out of place outside of maybe a couple of moments.Considering he played against star players he was bound to have a few downs
I think having him in Laval until Christmas will have him NHL ready come January. For sure, that was the Leafs A roster and he didn’t look out of place outside of maybe a couple of moments.

Saying his upside is a sheltered 3rd pairing guy is kinda disrespectful, that's his floor you are talking about.
One of those high end defense men is going to be flipped for a high end winger at some point. The floor is him not playing in the NHL on a good team because he can't defend well enough.
He would be the worst defender in the entire league by a wide margin if he played right now. I have always said that he is a long term project due to his size and skating concerns and he is far more likely to be a 3rd pairing 5 vs 5 sheltered dman and pp specialist than he is to becoming a 1st pairing dman. Fox is a better comparison than Hughes for sure but even Fox is a much better skater due to being far better at skating backwards.
There is no denying that he is supremely talented as far as puck skills and hockey IQ and it is not impossible that he entirely fixes his skating and continues to grow. The issue for me is that these are outcomes that are a long way from being probable and too many fans are anointing him as a future superstar when he is still an extremely flawed player despite his obvious skill.
I don't expect him to be a top pairing dman who matches up against the opposition's top players but I do expect him to be a dangerous weapon on the PP and in the offensive zone in general. This team just has too many outstanding D prospects that will be far superior defenders while being on a continuum from competent offensively to very good offensively for me to consider him to be a strong candidate to play high in the lineup in 5 vs 5 situations.

Not that I want to start pre trading DMen but aren’t we reaching a breaking point here
Xhekaj, Guhle, Harris, matheson, kovacevic, mailloux, norlinder, Barron, savard have all shown to be competent nhl dmen. Then we have Hutson reinbacher and engstrom on the way we need to find a partner who needs a d and has a top 6 winger prospect available
