A look at Linus Ullmark’s path to stardom. The Bruins goaltender is having a season for the ages and it’s been quite the road for the 29-year old Swede. What does everyone think Montgomery will come playoff time regarding his goalies? Ride one or continue to split starts?

Good work on this I recommend it if you haven’t already read the article.

yeah, the hate is because he was overpaid, not needed and adds a roadblock to Swayman

5/20 with a NMC for a goaltender that has barely even been average when you have a white hot elite prospect breaking in is a laughably stupid move. The right move for team construction and the cap would've been to bring a veteran back up in for under 3m a year and you put your eggs in the Swayman basket.

This is a move on the level of Beleskey/Hayes/Moore

Still stand with your opinion ? or can we agree that you've never been so wrong in your whole life?

lol.

I just hope that Boston wins it all... Ullboy is imo the best netter this year!

I've alluded to it earlier, because it seemed inevitable, but Ullmark now appears on the first page of this statistic:

You have to scroll down a fair bit to find him, but when you do, that "49" games played really sticks out (especially since he's only got 47 decisions). Dryden's 41 wins in 55 decisions (56 games) is the closest comparable. I think it's fair to say Linus wouldn't have needed 8 more decisions to get another win, so the actual only comparable in NHL history is Tiny Thompson's 38 wins in 44 decisions. Linus has two more wins in three more decisions, so a slightly worse win rate. 85.1% to 86.4%. What a scrub.

Obviously in large part a team statistic, but what a season he's had! To put his stats in context in this league with ever-increasing shooting percentages and scoring: He outperformed the league average (as it stands) GAA by 36% and SVS% by 35.4% of what's possible -- comparable to Carey Price's Hart-winning season when he outperformed the league average GAA by 22.3% and SVS% by 21.2% of what's possible.

Get well for the playoffs!

Fantastic post! I wasn't outraged or thrilled when the Bs brought him over. I was kind of meh, hope he can at least be very solid for that kind of money. Never saw this coming when it comes to raw stats or his incredible mentoring and support of a backup goalie.

I've heard some talking heads this season try to minimize Ullmark's numbers by saying the system is why he looks so good. I say BS to that. They must not have been watching when Ullmark was saving the Bs bacon game after game after game in the first part of the season with McAvoy, Marchy, and Griz out. Sure, Lindholm was in beast mode, but he wasn't on the ice 60 mins a game.

You have to go back to Timmy's peak years to find a Bs goalie with the number of highlight reel saves Ullmark has made this season. I appreciate your giving relevant numbers in showing just how special Ullmark has been this season.

Something that is incredible to me is that the Bs have the 1st and 4th best goalies in the NHL in save pct. Ullmark has been so good that his .938 is quite a bit better than Swayman's .922 at 4th place. And for much of the season Monty was noticeably giving Ullmark the tougher starts. He continues this type of goaltending throughout the playoffs his season will be one for the books.

Dryden had 8 ties that season. No OT.

How many of those 8 do you think Montreal wins if there is OT?

That said, this has been the best regular season performance I've seen for Bruins goalie.

Everyone around the league before the year started:

"The Bruins are going to fight for a wildcard spot, they arent what they used to be."

Also everyone around the league now that they're the top team:

"ULLMARK IS A PRODUCT OF BRUINS' STACKED TEAM"

None of the credit for where they are is given to Ullmark, pretty sad to see when he's been arguably the biggest reason they are where they are, maybe besides Pasta.

This kind of crap has been ongoing in the media for a couple months now. So far I've learned that Hellebucyk, Sorokin, Gustavsson, and yes even someone suggesting that Saros, all are more deserving of the Vezina than Ullmark. Somehow Ullmark's dominance disqualifies him because the team has been dominant, completely ignoring that Ullmark has been a huge part of the Bs dominance. Ullmark is the clear choice for the Vezina. Sorokin runner-up. Friedman can go give Hellebucyk a gold star for playing 13 straight games.

I was listening to the Short Shift podcast this morning and they said the only game Ullmark was pulled for performance was the Pittsburgh game when Sway got hurt and he had to go back in.

Is this true? He won the only game he was pulled from??

From the Globe:
It would be up to Ullmark, who had quite a night. After posting a shutout Friday in Columbus, he was yanked Tuesday after allowing five goals on 24 shots, then returned after Swayman’s injury and stopped the final nine shots he saw.

Yes. Ullmark got lit up so he was pulled. Sway went in and the B's started playing better. Bergy got tripped and went into Sway and he hurt his knee. Linus went back in ice cold and stood on his head, Bruins scored 3 in the 3rd to force OT and then this happened

And was that the only time he was pulled?
