Line Combos: Line Discussion Thread

i just dont see pyatt fitting in anywhere anymore, what does he add to our lineup? if its a question of pyatt vs powe on the 4th line, id choose powe all day for pking alone. at the beginning of the season it seemed like pyatt would be a solid 3rd liner, but i think our best option now is to move him, along with prospects/picks for a legit 3c (clowe - ott - cally is pretty hot), keep boyle and powe together on the 4th line and we could be rolling 4 great lines for their roles

Clowe - Ott - Callahan would be a very difficult line to play against

Clowe and Ott playing together  That would be awesome. Callahan completes that line.

Our forward lines would be pretty set.

For now:

Nash-Stepan-Callahan
Zuccarello-Richards-Gaborik
Clowe-Miller-Hagelin
Powe-Boyle-Asham

I think I'd like to see Clowe and Cally on Miller's wings. Put the pucks on their sticks and let Miller benefit from their board work. I think if he had less to worry about, he'd turn the puck over less and might actually be able to start potting a few. Clowe and Cally have pretty good, underrated playmaking skills that could help, and I'd worry less about defensive lapses with those two out there with him. Build some confidence and groom him to be that 3C we need instead of renting one.

wonder what the asking price for Ott is.

If you could dump pyatt + for Ott...

That would help our depth big time.

The "+" would have to be something really nice, Pyatt might as well be nothing. We're running out of draft picks too.
Sather is the trade magician though.

christ 33% of that line would be in box all the time and Callahan would have to PK, therefore making physically impossible for that line to be on the ice at the same time ever.

Personally I like:

Nash-Stepan-Callahan
Clowe-Richards-Gaborik
Hagelin-Boyle-Zuccarello
Kreider/Miller-Powe-Asham

No way in hell should Miller be on our third line come the playoffs, especially at C.

Haven't been able to watch a full game since Zucc has been here this year. Just curious why he would be best fit into a 3rd line role without a finisher. Sounds to me like he has offensively been extremely successful and creative and should be best utilized with one of Gabby or Nash in a Top 6 role.

We had been clamoring for a player like Ott for so long. It would take an overpayment because of that. He slots into any line, plays PP and PK, hits everything in sight, is a great teammate, etcetera etcetera.

Certainly wont have Pyatt as the base of a deal.

That said... If we (BUF) want to truly rebuild. He's not untouchable. Scuttlebutt has the Kings inquiring about his services as well.

I couldn't even begin to lay the framework for a potential deal.

Hope to see either:
Clowe - Stepan - Nash
Zuccarello - Richards - Gaborik
Hagelin - Miller - Callahan
Powe - Boyle - Asham

OR:

Nash - Stepan - Gaborik
Clowe - Richards - Zuccarello
Hagelin - Miller - Callahan
Powe - Boyle - Asham

Or a trade to add a real third line center, but for now I think Miller has to play that position. I really like Clowe in the top six, he may not have the consistant scoring level he used to, but he can still contribute. Especially on the forecheck and in front of the net. Having Clowe on with Richards and Zuccarello would probably give those two a lot of space and help them create scoring chances.

If we make another deal, I'd pick Ott over a defenseman. Great FO guy, PP, PK, tough. Perfect 3rd line C.

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Zuccarello-Richards-Gaborik
Clowe-Ott-Callahan
Powe-Boyle-Asham

Staal-G
McDonagh-Stralman
DZ-Eminger

Come PO time.

We'd finally have a talented top-6 that's a threat to score, as well as a competent third line that's tough to play against and can score. Fourth line isn't too shabby either- just get Asham on a breakaway and he's putting the puck in the back of the net.

My ideal playoff roster would be:

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Zuccarello-Richards-Gaborik
Clowe-Miller-Callahan
Kreider-Boyle-Powe

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Del Zotto
Acquisition-Stralman

I'd swap Clowe and Zicc's.

get the physical presence for policing matters on the same line with Richie and Gabby.

Zucc's adds some nice skill and vision to the Ott-Callahan line.

other wise, all is good

Nash - Stepan - Callahan
Hagelin - ????? - Zuccarelo
Clowe - Richards - Gaborik

Is what I want from the top-9

Now, that would require getting a ??????
Lindberg?

He wouldn't. He energized Richie and Gabby and makes so many smart plays on the ice. Like Kreider, playing him with grinders who have no skill is a waste.

My ideal playoff roster would be any collection of the 18 names you listed having the opportunity to play in the playoffs.

Welcome to the "No Goal Line." lol

I feel bad for Zooks. I hope Torts still plays Zooks a good amount and on the PP. So this may mean Hags-Boyle/JT-Zooks is the 3rd line. I would be disappointed if Torts played Pyatt ahead of Hags/Zooks.
