Barrie got 5.5M, Vatanen got almost 5. Lindholm is projected to be better than both but he is not close to Ekblad or Hedman. 6M-6.5M is more than fair.

Lindholm is just as good if not better then ekblad right now. Florida paid in hopes he becomes the next doughty

Younger players are demanding more money earlier on - be chase they know (especially among defensemen) that some team will pay them.

Got to be prepared to pay up to keep top young talents. Teams should take not and stop throwing money at subpar older players

No.

Love Lindholm, he's an in division guy I see lots. He's not Ekblad sorry, especially looking at how good Ekblad is at only 20 years old.

Ekblad will eventually replace Doughty as the best D man in the world in the next 3-5 years. He really is that good.

Saying Lindholm > Ekblad can't be consensus amongst Duck fans.

Strongly disagree, Ekblad is better than Lindholm right now and he's younger. Also, Doughty is a bad comparison for Ekblad. If Lindholm were really better than Ekblad he would be getting 7.5M.

Didn't think so, I imagine that's a fringe opinion.

I deleted it because I thought you were including potential. Right now, he's a better defenseman than Ekblad. I don't disagree with Ducks fans saying that. Long term, I think Ekblad surpasses Lindholm.

Mmm, I don't know. I have Ekblad ahead, he really is a special player. It's not a slight against Lindholm, he's a true #1. In my view he's the Ducks most valuable asset, there's no way you guys let him walk. He's a franchise game changer.

not sure why the ducks aren't giving him that deal

The only thing that makes any sense is their budget concerns and the moves they'd need to make to accommodate a new Lindholm contract, a new Rakell contract (possibly bridge), and who gets moved out to get back to where their budget is. If they had to spend the same amount that they did last year, they'd have to find a way to cut somewhere between 11 and 12 mil so I hope for their sake that they got the green light to spend a little more this year. They may be able to clear 7 or 8 mil but probably not 11 or 12.

The owners said they were upping the budget, like they did when Getzlaf and Perry were signed. How much that is, no one knows, but it's higher.

Jones is better then Riley so he got the extra .4 or .6 I forgot the amount right now but not the point and since lindholm is above Jones he should be getting about .5 more but if you get the 2 extra UFA years probably a full million more. 6.3 to 6.5 is fair. Any more is to much.

isnt ekblad pretty sheltered

Ekblad is good enough to be playing for Team Canada tonight and Team NA would probably be playing tonight if he didnt get injured.
Lets not compare Lindholm to that beast. Lindholm easily deserves 6M but 6.5M max.

No one has brought it up but signing bonuses could be a sticking issue here.

This seems to be the new thing between agents/NHLPA and owners.

They could be very close on actual dollars, term and cap hit, but the player/agent could be pushing for heavy signing bonuses.

Just a thought.

lol a franchise dman is not worth drasaitl? get real, the oilers do that trade every day of the week. they draw from their biggest strength to address their biggest weakness

Lindholm isn't a franchise defensemen. Karlsson, Doughty, Letang, Subban, Weber, Suter - that caliber of d-man can be labelled "franchise". Lindholm may get there, but he isn't yet.

He's a top 10 dman in the league, worth a lot more already IMO

I love rielly but lindholm is a tier above him right now

Are you talking about Lindholm being a top 10 dman already?

I love Hampus, but it's amazing how overrated he is around here. No chance in hell I'd trade him because of his potential, but he's only played like a #1 defenseman a few months in his career. His best performance was in the playoffs. He had spurts like that last year, but was extremely inconsistent.

I'd take Lindholm over Ekblad. He won't put up the offensive numbers or the hits but Lindholm has far better possession numbers against tougher comp (Ekblad doesn't face the hardest minutes on his team)

I think Lindholm is better than Ekblad right now. He was top 3 in shot suppressing and was unreal in playoffs. Who knows about the future.
