I think people are being too harsh on TD this season. Vaughn is doing great... I actually believe he's a tough guy and i've only seen him in comedy roles.

It's like the first season... No one was really sure it was great until it concluded. All our character development questions will be answered soon folks! Only 4 eps left.

I'm baffled by the overwhelming financial success of Jurassic World, it's not very good.

Well it appeals to pretty much everybody when you think about it. Kids love dinosaurs. The parents of those kids saw the original when they were kids and now want to go with their kids. The parents of the parents remember taking their kids to go see the original and would like to see it with their family or grandchildren.

It may not have been the greatest movie but it was guaranteed to bring in the money. They did a great job hyping it as well and got Chris Pratt who is insanely popular and well liked at the moment.

We often see very well received movies like Dredd (so sad that they are not making a sequel) or even MadMax do poorly because they are not well advertised. Also, being rated R does not help but it shows that critic reviews do not always equate box office revenue. That is the reason we keep seeing terrible "horror" movies being churned out. They are guaranteed to do well enough.

So my girlfriend was on the bus yesterday going to work. She was listening to the Laurence Anyways soundtrack on her iPod, and lo and behold, none other than Xavier Dolan gets on the exact same bus. What are the odds, right?

See and I don't. It being my main issue with TD. Don't get me wrong, I like this season well enough, but Vaughn has been a tough sell to me. I don't find his character to be all that believable and scenes involving him (a lot of those obviously) take me out of it somewhat.

It's amazing that a 26 year old has managed to make several globally respected movies.

Why does it have to be good to be successful? Look at all the marvel movies, they never let lack of quality stop them from making money.

Jurassic World will end up outgrossing all of the Marvel films. It hasn't yet but that's because it has only been out four weeks and is not yet out in every country. It has an outside shot at closing in on Titanic which was a competently crafted story.

I'd say Avengers, for example, is probably better, since the plot does not depend on the characters makint really dumb mistakes.

Just saw the Superman vs Batman trailer. I won't totally knock it until I see the movie but ya seems like it will be cgi pornfest. Don't think Jesse Eisenberg was good casting for Lex Luthor, it just doesn't look right. Brian Cranston was made for that role!! And after that whole trailer I still can't get past Ben Affleck as Batman, there's something in my brain that just won't let it go.

Does it really surprise you that a Superman film, heck, a comic-book film isn't CGI heavy? Seriously?

As for Jesse Eisenberg and Bryan Cranston, I like both actors, in fact; I like Cranston more. However, Eisenberg is a better actor for Luthor by quite a mile. It's abundantly obvious to me that most people's perception of Luther is heavily influenced by Hackman's portrayal of the character. However, that Lex isn't the Luthor of the past 30 years, at the very least.

Cranston even (lightly) made fun of people mentioning his name for the role, and rightly so. It's unimaginative casting. Frankly, the only reason why he gets nominated for the role is because he is a middle-aged, bald (in Breaking Bad) white guy. That's lame casting.

No review needed for Sopranos. Probably the best TV series of all time along with Breaking Bad in my opinion.

Vikings is a pretty good show as well. Acting is usually good. The supporting cast for the most part is excellent. Floki and Rollo in particular are great characters. Some characters are really annoying like the Princess of France who has the most horrific fake accent I've ever heard. It can get cheesy at times like most other fiction TV shows but it is pretty high quality overall. I wish it focused more on Floki and Rollo in particular rather than just Ragnar most of the time although they do a much better job of that in the third season.

The action scenes are some of the best I've seen on TV. Not quite Game of Thrones episode 9 quality but close.

Plot is very simple. The show often struggles when it tries to be too dramatic. I'd like it much better if it took a more historical approach and cut out some of the unnecessary drama.

The costume design, screenplay and overall feel of the show is fantastic. It creates a wonderful atmosphere.

The show is pretty violent and there are some gruesome scenes. Again, not quite as gruesome as GOT but still pretty violent compared to most of whats out there.

Overall, I recommend it. It's pretty solid. It's certainly not HBO, AMC of FX quality but better than most of what's out there. That trailer for season 4 looks fantastic as well and now that the groundwork has been laid out in the previous seasons, I think the show will only get better.

That being said, there are better shows out there like Sopranos, the Wire, GOT, Breaking Bad, DareDevil, Hannibal, Hell on Wheels (Season 4 is awful though), True Detective...

Thanks for the answer

I actually started breaking bad in the meanwhile and holy I wont stop watching them until Ive watched them all.

Next on my list is Sopranos. I even own the first season.

Then I might try Viking

The main reason I won't start Sopranos or House of Cards is that I fear it will take over my life for two weeks.

You were always analysing Mad Men episodes and I loved Mad Men too. Sopranos is another great character study show with so much depth and subtilities. You got to watch it. As a big movie and TV show fan, you'll appreciate it even more than the casual viewer. Also, James Gandolfini! Do yourself a favor and watch it :)

True Detective is terrible this season.

Vince Vaughn sucks.
The gay dude sucks.
The tough independent woman that need no man character played by Rachel McAdams sucks.
And the story sucks.

I think saying it sucks is going too far. Its ok so far. not great though, it seems like they are trying too hard to recapture last years magic.

They're doing absolutely nothing to recapture last years magic.

It's a completely different show with a completely different atmosphere and tone.

And if you knew enough about TD you wouldn't be surprised by it.

EDIT: By saying "you" I don't mean to single the OP out. Speaking in general sense.

What does that mean...? If I knew enough about it?

There's not much lore or source material. There are references, but I'm not sure what you mean by your comment.

TD was always going to be VERY different one season to another (and that shall continue next season). There have been multiple articles on this and I was certainly aware that the second season was going to be nothing like the first one.

TD is a show that handpicks a set of actors to do a "victory lap". If you were hoping for a continuous story, character or atmosphere buildup - this ain't it.

Cranston is too old for the role*.

Batman v Superman is just the groundwork for the DCverse and the cast need to be reusable for the next ~15 years. In fact the main goal of this movie is to re-slot Batman in a world where peoples can fly and punch through a concrete wall without breaking a sweat.

I'm really trying to like True Detective but I think the first season just set the bar too high. This season is good, but my expectations of having my pants blown off by each episode has made me sour about the show.
