Cannot recall, but didn't Kris King and Tie Domi play on the same line? Hated the Eddie O trade. King and Domi played a good role on the team.

Yeah he def played with King and Doug Weight for a bit. Not sure how long though. I feel like he started with them and finished with them in the playoffs but in between played with every other possible combination on the bottom 6.

He played a bit with Zamuner before we lost him to expansion. Zamuner ended up being a real good player. Losing him was a mistake that no one really complained, but was actually pretty unfortunate in hindsight.

Its funny, in my mind the 91-92 season lasted forever so in my mind Domi was on the Rangers forever but really he only played the equivalent of one full season.

Saw Rumun Ndur play for the Danbury Trashers of the old United Hockey League in 04-05 and always thought what a comedown it was from playing in the NHL. Not that the UHL and the Trashers wasn't fun, because it was, but it was really a league lower than the ECHL. Playing before 2000 people in Danbury on a Friday night wasn't the same as playing before 17,000+ in the NHL.

I was playing Juniors upstate that year and saw a lot of notable pros scattered throughout the UHL, ECHL and AHL thanks to the lockout. The U was a fun league and we practiced and played against those guys. Some could really rip shots. The lockout was fun if you were in upstate New York because you also got to see Spezza do his best Gretzky impression in Binghamton.

I loved the Czech Mates because I was too young to be annoyed they were the first line.

Their tic-tac-toe plays were magical. It was like they were on some kind of Czech mind meld.

Mike McEwen. A decent offensive dman in the late '70's for the Rangers. Back when the Rangers used to practice at Long Beach, my neighbor (police officer in LB) gave my brother and I each a stick from a player...Wayne Dillon for my brother, McEwen for me. Anyway, that stick changed me from playing rightie to leftie, and from that point on they couldn't stop me, they could only hope to contain me...sometimes.
Stefan Cherneski (sp)
Jason Prosofsky
Jan Erixon, guy was such a solid defensive center back in the day.

had McEwen pages back along with Rexy Rutsolainen [sp?]

Syl Apps Sr way before even my time...
did his kid have a cup o coffee w/us?

Let's remember Jason Krog.

Played nine games with the Rangers, scored two goals, according to Wiki.

Yup. Meant to say, "Checking Line".

They were actually the 3rd line. Skrudland was slotted in behind Gretz and Patty L.

It was the 90's, the 4th line was still filled with lovable goons, like Darren Langdon, or guys that looked like they should be goons but weren't, like Mike Eastwood.

Unfortunately, the tic-tac-toe plays were rapidly taken away by the league. Yet they kept trying over and over and over again.

Don't remember Apps Jr (or Sr) but Ken Hodge Jr played with Binghamton at some point in the '90's, not sure what became of him.
.

Lyle Odelien was legitimately unpleasant to look at.
Yes, but I have never seen anyone go quite that nuclear before the puck was even dropped. I remember finding out what was said and I simply lost it. Barnaby was not that far off in what he said.

In the "prospect-free" days when we went for it post-Torts we signed him as a UDFA out of UMASS in the NCAA.
With Hartford without any decent d-man prospect I remember this board having high hopes for him. Guess when you are the only promising d-man on a AHL rooster together with McIlrath its easy to overvalue a prospect.
He got 3 games for us in 13-14 and 4 in 14-15. We didnt resign him after the 14-15 season, and he went on to play on some different AHL teams.
Didnt see another NHL game. This year he is playing in HC Plzen in the Czech league. Guess he did get a decent pro hockey career, but not at the highest level.

Can't be bothered to go back and look if he was already mentioned but another guy from this era who was signed out of college: Kyle Jean

I remember this guy shooting up the prospect rankings because he had an outstanding start in the AHL then inevitably fizzled out and ended up in the ECHL then Europe

Yes, having a thin farm makes it easier to stand out. Another forward from this time was Ryan Haggerty. I can clearly remember him scoring with a really nice wrister in the pre-season. In the end he got us Raanta.
Haggery have become a good AHL player atleast.

Fedor Fedorov, Jason Strudwick, Jason Ward, Ville Nieminen, Thomas Pock, Chad Wiseman, Bryce Lampman, Alex Giroux, how the f*** did Jagr not win the MVP that year? f***ing Joe Thornton won it because Jagr was a European and Thornton was a Canadian. #ChangeMyMind

Speaking of small worlds. I remember the hype surrounding Dallas Eakins. He actually played for the Rangers

Then you would be remembering incorrectly. Dallas Eakins at his best was an emergency call up in the '97 playoffs at a time when the Rangers were dressing the likes of Ken Gernander. Things got so bad, Adam Graves was centering the 4th line vs Philly...half the team was on IR by the time that series started.

Pat Verbeek.

Was only a Ranger for a little over a year, but I’ll always remember his wicked shot.

Loved to find a soft spot in the left circle and gear up for an unstoppable 1-timer.

41g + 41a in 95. Forgot why we didn’t re-sign him....

For some reason, even pre salary cap, Verbeek was never an option to resign once the MSG brass targeted #99 when Free Agency began. It wasn't like they didn't have the cash, but it felt like an internal cap was instituted from MSG corporate or more likely the NHL.

The only thing Keane ever did for this organization was end Pat Lafontaine’s career (while he was a Ranger) :help:

Was at the game sitting at center ice in the old MSG orange seats(think they were teal in '98). That play happened right in front of me. As soon as they collided, I immediately knew LaFontaine's career was done. His mouth guard went flying & the look on his face was pretty scary...almost a blank expression like someone who was knocked out in a boxing match. He skated right to the bench & that was it. Was too bad, he was really playing well that year & was also a terrific mentor to Marc Savard.

The NHL should've taken a much harder look at vicious head shots back then. The really bad one for LaFontaine was the open ice elbow by Francois Leroux when his helmet flew off & his head hit the ice. That was the mother of all cheap shots. Today that's a 25 game suspension easily.

Ironically, LaFontaine's first reported concussion was in the '90 playoffs when James Patrick caught him at the end of game 1.

I mean the hype around him potentially being our coach in 2014 ;)
