! I was at the Jeff Toms game! I had no idea who he was.
Ron Blow put him on the Lindros line and that may have been the last straw for me. Then he promptly nets a hat trick. The highlight of his career, I am sure.

That '99 offseason was brutal.

Signed Sylvain Lefebvre, Stephane Quintal, Tim Taylor, Valeri Kamensky, Kevin Hatcher,...

But hey at least we drafted Pavel Brendl at 4th overall and Jamie Lundmark at 9th overall.

Oh and we traded away Marc Savard.

Random fact of the day: during that season the Rangers claimed Vlad Naimestnikov's father John Namestnikov off waivers, played him in Hartford for while, then traded him to STL for Jason Dawe, who was awful... but at least I barely had to watch him play unlike all the previously mentioned dregs.

Fun times.

Thank you. I was trying to recall Quintal for the longest time but couldn't.

Maybe last year or the year before I was introduced to a friend of a friend who worked in the league offices doing player safety or something. He said he reported directly to Stephane Quintal. Normally I at least attempt to be diplomatic but I couldn't even stop myself and told him something like "Oh God, that guy is the ****ing worst."

The face he made, you'd think I had dropped my pants and farted directly into his face.

I'm sorry, but **** Stephane Quintal. That guys absolutely was the worst.

Remember when Chris Jensen was our only "prospect" and was always the first guy up from New Haven?

I'm continually amazed how small the world is.

Of all the Rangers I loathed during the Dark Ages, none did I loathe more than Igor Ulanov. His 39 game stint seemed to last forever.

I remember Jeff Woywitka losing at credit card roulette in the Road to the Winter Classic series. He ended up paying dinner for the entire team. I felt bad for him hahaha

Remember Gordie Walker, Mike Siltala, Mike Donnelly, and Ray Sheppard?

I loved Ray Sheppard. Guy always scored 25-30 goals a year and couldn't skate. Loved him because I could relate.

Only hockey player who got paid for playing the game that skated worse was Bruce Graham. Seriously, Graham could actually score (saw him score a hat trick here in Charlotte in an ECHL game), but his skating looked about as bad as a low level beer leaguer.

Rank em':

Quintal
Ulanov
Karpa

Worst part.

Karpa was actually a decent enough bottom pairing for Carolina. He gets to New York and gets worse.

Seems like any Hurricanes player that comes to NY automatically sucks, save for Matt Cullen.

Karpa
Ozolinsh
Aaron Ward
Eric Staal

I loved Sheppard. I was only 9 years old in 90-91, but I was a big fan of his. Anyone remember the backstory on why his Ranger tenure was so short? 24 goals in 59 games.

Just thought he was on a one year deal and wasn't re-signed. Was kind of a third-line type player that produced. Looking at the roster the next season, you can easily see how he wouldn't have fit.
