They are elite players that could benefit from someone digging out the puck for them and creating traffic in front of the net. Puljujarvi was huge for McDavid last season doing those things. We were lucky to add 2 more of those types of players in Hyman and Foegele this offseason. There was a rumor that Lawson Crouse might be available, I'm not sure if he would be a top 6 player on your team or not, but he might be a decent buy low candidate to do the dirty work on a line in the top 6.

We don't have an answer for Zach Hyman. I suppose Mikheyev might be that guy when he comes back, but what else can we do?

Is it possible to package Dermott and Ritchie for a more impact impactful left winger?

Should Dubas be patient and wait for Mikheyev to return or should he have a few irons in the fire right now?

"you" as in the 1st line winger with 2 goals in his last 19 playoff games? and a single point vs montreal? people are angry i get it, and hyman has started well with his new team. but he didnt make himself irreplaceable in the post season either lol.
 
Matthews Marner Rielly and Tavares sucking at the same time is a monster we've never witnessed before :help:

We have no idea if we need Hyman or not. He can't do anything drastic for us if the above guys aren't playing well. If they're actually playing well and we still lose then you can reason we need him.

With you on this. I had great appreciation for Hyman when he was on our team. Wish him well, but really don't give two f***s how he does going forward.

This fan based is bonkers. We need to show this support for the players on our team ffs.

Exactly. It is so funny to see those delusional Oiler fans on the main board last season saying he was garbage…Now that he plays there, he is a lock for team Canada according to them. The most annoying fan base in the NHL.

He left because the Leafs couldn't pay him what he was worth, not because he had any real desire to leave.

I think people need to understand that even great team guys won't take a 33% pay cut to stay in lateral situation.

No reason not to be a Hyman fan unless the Leafs are playing the Oilers.

Honestly we like the guy. I never thought he was garbage just concerned about his contract.

As for the national team stuff never heard an oilers fan say it. Lol meanwhile here Zach appreciation thread

one thing to note though is that you still need to fill the roster spots after signing hyman. so it will be hyman's salary + 2 min wage players' salaries, which would work out to $7-7.1m AAV. not saying that really changes the decision, but something to note.

This team is toast until it trades Marner, Matthews or Tavares. One of these guys needed to be on a sweetheart deal to make it work or all needed to be on reasonable contracts. That person should have been Marner. I said it when Marner signed... he peaked early because of almost perfect circumstances, phenomenal linemates, shadowing Matthews line, an offensive team etc meanwhile his comparables had tougher development processes such as more defensive systems, lesser skilled linemates, harder matchups, less minutes or all the above...there peak years would come later. I specifically pointed to Aho and Connor. Connor I said was a guy we should look to trading Marner for and getting back a package that included Connor. Several laughed at me and said Connor was << Marner. Now look, he has 16 points in 10 games this season. He's making nearly 4 million less than Marner for the foreseeable future!!

How do we compete with teams like Edmonton paying Draisaitl over 2 million less than Marner? Boston paying Pastrnak nearly 4 million less than Marner. Etc etc.

Salary cap is past its infancy stage and teams are getting closer and closer to par.... its a game of inches now and Dubas has overpaid on every one of his best players.

Hedman: 7.8 million
Point: 9.5 million
Kucherov: 9.5 million
26.8 million

Tavares 11 million
Marner 10.987
Matthews 11.6
33.587

7 million dollars difference.... lightning players are all better than the Leafs with the exception of Matthews.

We will do ok, but we aren't gonna win a cup short of a miracle.

A lot of flaws in this argument

First, we wouldnt have Hyman stapled to McDavid here, who if you havent looked has over 20 points in 10 games. Hyman likely has a pretty decent drop in offence playing here especially with our big boys struggling early.

And then Kampf for example has never been an offensive guy but is a great role player and has been playing his role at as well of a level as you could expect.

You also fail to fill the rest of the roster with league minimum players so the actual Hyman cap hit + 3 league minimum players is closer to 8 mill
