I’m not concerned about his scoring. Good on him for taking advantage of signing up to play with the best player in the league.

I do think though that the Leafs will be missing a Hyman type player. Simmons certainly isn’t the guy and it’s about 4 years too late for Spezza to be it (I do love what Spezza brings, no doubt).

Apparently 5 goals hot start with McDavid is enough to override his 2 embarrassing playoff losses in a row on a much better team than the Oilers :sarcasm:

This place is comedy.

The playoff losses have been on our "Superstars", Matthews, Marner and Tavares, making a combined 33+ million dollars per year. It's not the responsibility of one of the foot soldiers (probably the 7th best guy on the team) to carry his team to playoff win.

What a ridiculous take.

Hyman gets core player first line usage in the playoffs and comes up empty. Just because others choked too doesn't mean he's innocent.

What a ridiculous take.

Imagine getting 22-23 minutes a game and being absolved of all responsibility to make an impact.

LOVED Hyman and still do.

What McJesus is doing regardless of how much Hyman is getting paid is what your team's top players who are paid handsomely are suppose to do...

i.e. raise your linenamtes' game for the betterment of the team!

Imagine McJesus crying a river for not getting to play with Drai all the time because he can''t produce without Drai

Or for that matter Crosby/Malkin

Imagine being the 12th highest paid player on your own team, behind...

Matthews
Tavares
Marner
Foligno
Nylander
Reilly
Brodie
Muzzin
Anderson
Kerfoot
Nash

And being scapegoated for a playoff loss, based on a horrendous take by a poster.

I'm sure we could have made the money on the contract work, the problem was signing a 29 year old who takes a lot of hits and has had serious leg injuries the past 3 playoffs to an 8 year deal with a full NMC.

The guy is one ACL tear away from losing his speed and strength on the forecheck, what do you have left when that happens? Netfront PP guy?

Edmonton wins the gamble if that injury doesn't happen before 2024 probably, but it's still a gamble at the end of the day.

Also I thought points don't matter until the playoffs? Or do the rules change when you get swept by the Jets.

all of your arguments can be extended to Matthews, Marner and Tavares too.... on ACL tear away for not being effective....

We may regret it now but in years 4,5,6 & 7 we’d likely see a few Hyman jerseys littering the ice.

I don’t attend games any longer but can’t understand why people do that. Original 6 franchise. Have a little respect for the emblem. Littering the ice with our beloved maple leaf?

Whats next throwing a Canadian flag out on the highway after getting a tax bill?

None of those 3 rely on their forechecking game as their bread and butter and none of those 3 have had a single serious leg injury recently let alone 3 back to back ones. If Matthews loses some speed he's still a 1C that can score 40 goals standing still.

We all loved Hyman, it's just his term is going to be painfulllllll in the second half of the deal. He's already had a bad injury, he won't be this effective at 34+. Good for him though, was always such a likable guy. He's gonna put up career numbers playing with McDavid

There is more and more pressure forming on this core group to get it done....both Tavares, Marner, Matthews, Rielly and Dubas, Shanahan and Keefe.

I stated objective facts. I didn't make him a scapegoat.

True or false: Hyman was given first line usage in the playoffs and was inefficient.

You're being way too dramatic. There is nothing ridiculous with what I'm saying.

If Hyman tears up the first round for the Oilers I will join your side. Until then I already know Hyman is a beast in the regular season. He doesn't help OUR problems though. He's a playoff choker the same way Marner is. What does salary have to do with it?

Matthews CASUALLY saying he wouldnt mind playing with Marner more is considered crying

Yet it's others with the ridiculous takes.

It's also funny you think Hyman would have that big of a pay raise without Matthews and Marner. I agree McDavid will pump more points out of him but to say Hyman didn't get elevated by his line mates here is ridiculous (indirectly).

It's a contract that we shouldn't and likely couldn't have handed out.

Always liked the player and wish him every success as long it's not against the Leafs.

Why wouldn't everyone?

I’m still surprised he signed somewhere else. I thought he was gonna be a lifer. He was the one player we had with heart. The guy played every shift like it was his last. And yes, I’m sure his stats are a little inflated considering mcdavid looks like he is playing in house league right now but still, the guy has some juice. We are definitely going to miss him.

40 goal season coming up from Hyman and perhaps a Cup this season. The Oilers look damn good.

Dubas thought he was going to replace him with Ritchie . What a joke…Ritchie belongs in the minors. This is starting to look like the beginning of the end of this era for the Toronto Maple Leafs. They are going to miss the playoffs this season and moving forward for years to come.
