Let's Keep Appreciating Zach Hyman

Let's appreciate who he was when he was on Toronto... but he left and decided to sign else where due to many different reasons.

Either way.... he gone. Let it go. I wish him well but I don't appreciate him now.

Shut this down.

This team is toast until it trades Marner, Matthews or Tavares. One of these guys needed to be on a sweetheart deal to make it work or all needed to be on reasonable contracts. That person should have been Marner. I said it when Marner signed... he peaked early because of almost perfect circumstances, phenomenal linemates, shadowing Matthews line, an offensive team etc meanwhile his comparables had tougher development processes such as more defensive systems, lesser skilled linemates, harder matchups, less minutes or all the above...there peak years would come later. I specifically pointed to Aho and Connor. Connor I said was a guy we should look to trading Marner for and getting back a package that included Connor. Several laughed at me and said Connor was << Marner. Now look, he has 16 points in 10 games this season. He's making nearly 4 million less than Marner for the foreseeable future!!

How do we compete with teams like Edmonton paying Draisaitl over 2 million less than Marner? Boston paying Pastrnak nearly 4 million less than Marner. Etc etc.

Salary cap is past its infancy stage and teams are getting closer and closer to par.... its a game of inches now and Dubas has overpaid on every one of his best players.

Hedman: 7.8 million
Point: 9.5 million
Kucherov: 9.5 million
26.8 million

Tavares 11 million
Marner 10.987
Matthews 11.6
33.587

7 million dollars difference.... lightning players are all better than the Leafs with the exception of Matthews.

We will do ok, but we aren't gonna win a cup short of a miracle.

No one needs to play ‘devils advocate’ when half of the posts on the board all already full of the same negativity and hot takes.
It seems to work though. Its no different than Zeke, Dicks or Biased just the other side of the coin.

It was obvious Marner had no possible chance of ever living up to that contract. Dubas either doesn't care about winning, overvalues his players or both.

Either way.
Tavares accelerated the rebuild and Marner killed it.

Wait, I’ve been told all summer that losing Hyman didn’t hurt us? Don’t kid yourself it hurts and he’s proving it again.
Ya, there's a lot of folks (in here) that say things. I remember when folks painted the Oilers as a dismal flop, an embarrassment to the league. I guess jealousy and pettiness is what some folks like to do versus deal with reality of their own team that they cheer for & their lack of success.

Let's see what happens this year. The Oilers have been doing pretty well this year. Hyman looks like a good signing for them, and is making a good contribution, is playing his role, and has added something of value to the Oilers and their mix of talent.

It doesn't pain me at all to see another Canadian team doing well. When you think of it, why should it? What is gained by this? And, its kind of neat to see a team like them that was successful in the 1980s with stars like Gretzky, Coffey, Fuhr & Messier have success again.

Hymen has not been stapled to mcdavid. He's played a ton of time with nuge. Basically the oilers are constantly junbling their top 6. Tippett likes to put mcdavid and Draisaitl together when we have last change.
He has 2 points playing away from McDavid. Like I am a fan of Hyman...have been for a long time. He is the same player he was in Toronto. Nothing has changed, he just has the best player the league has seen in a couple decades making it easier for him to pick up gimme points. Nothing wrong with that but lets not act like his game has changed in any material way from his time in Toronto either. He is what he is.

What's wrong with that? They have been a flop so far... We are allowed to discuss other teams without it being jealousy.

The Leafs have sucked and so have the Oilers, both things can be true.
