I said it when they signed him. If he's to McDavid what Kunitz was to Crosby, it will be well worth it. Just a net front veteran, proven capable of playing with good players, that does his job every night, has enough finish that it's worth passing him the puck and will do all the little things, at both ends of the ice, so that McDavid doesn't have to do everything by himself.

He doesn't play with McDavid except on the PP.

His line has been awful 5v5 but my goodness is he ever helping their PP.

He might score 40 this year if he stays on the top PP unit and can get 10 at even strength

They'll figure it out but how long until the narrative that they're really missing Zach Hyman?
I think all one has to do is point out that even with Hyman, we haven't made any noise in the playoffs and he hasn't been a big factor in the playoffs, regardless of how "hard he tries".
He was a very good player for us and obviously we're going to miss him in the lineup, but it's funny to see some people pretend like he was the missing piece all of a sudden, as if we were making it past the 1st round when he was on our team lol.

People get the contract restrictions, it’s the “oh we can easily replace him” that’s absurd and frankly shows little appreciation of the game. It’s a net negative he left, that’s just a fact.
Most people are immature emotional tools. Not worth losing years of life thinking of people’s irrationality. It’s just a game at the end of the day. They base whether something is a good decision or bad decision or if it has any loss or gain to it based on whether a 30 year old geezer decides to make that decision. It’s like they don’t realize there are hockey players outside of Toronto.

Imagine Hyman making team Canada like Chris Kunitz did, then having Tavares get cut, maybe even Marner & Rielly

I highly doubt that happens but people also didn't expect Kunitz to make it over guys like Claude Giroux (& originally Martin St.Louis)
Lmao let’s be honest my guy. Canada easily has more than 6 better defensemen than riles. Love the guy though nohomeowner

Hyman was an important player for the Leafs, and his play and effort is being missed. The time and space he created and his ability to win Ozone puck battles generated lots of additional opportunities for his linemates.

He never got the appreciation he deserved as he was often the straw that stirred the Leafs drink. Always showing up and always giving 110% effort.

His absence is noticeable, particularly when you watch the cause and effect of the Matthews line with and without him.

the Matthews lines struggles right now have precisely nothing to do with lack of Zach Hyman on their wing. Hyman was a good player, good solider for the leafs but give it a f***ing rest already. His actual impact on the Matthews/Marner pairing and this this misguided notion he enabled their success as a line is easily disproven by the time they played without him. He contributed sure, but Matthews and marner didn’t need him then to be successful, and they surely don’t now. They just need to play better individually.

Also it’s pretty laughable to say hyman never got the appreciation he deserved. In the early seasons sure, but if anything his last couple years he became kind of overrated more than anything. Still a good player, team mate, and by all accounts person, and versatile sure, but he also had significant limitations in his game that people just pretended like weren’t there. He was idolized for hard work of which there is little unique about him, just that Toronto fans and media has grown tired of half assed efforts of many, though not all. others here.

Leaf fans watching Nick Ritchie being dragged along like a boat anchor on the Matthews/Marner line, too big and slow and clumsy to be an effective forechecker and wingman are gaining a new appreciation for how big the loss of Zach Hyman and how much value he brought and contributed to the Leafs top line.

Last year Marner's longest point drought was 2 games and Matthews goal drought was also 2 games and already both of those marks have been broken, in part because they lost a key line driving component of their successful trio. They lost their spark plug and its visibly noticeable in their play and performance.

If you don't believe me ask Connor McDavid who is off to the best start of his life of > 2.0 PPG pace (which is Wayne Gretzky like) and how he is singing the praises of his new linemate/teammate, while Hyman is off the best start of his life as well with 5 goals and 6 points in his 1st 5 games with his new team. Hyman has PP goals, ES goals and even a SH goal contributing in every aspect of the game and towards Oilers success and 5-0 quick start.

Really glad to see Hyman off to a great start for the Oilers. I think most of us knew he was going to do well in his first few years playing with McDavid, it's the later years of that contract that is worrying, especially with his play style. Unfortunately, a work horse type player like him is exactly what we needed more off. Happy to see him get the bag though.

And I believe he will continue to be "a(sic) a extraordinary human" when he's long into his contract but perhaps hanging on like Simmonds.

We are Canadian hockey fans
Hanging on is what we’re all about:sarcasm:

More goals than the big 4 combined lol . The Oilers would take Mitch for Hyman straight up but I bet they wouldn't take Nylander you salty fellers .

I just wanted to say that he is greatly appreciated in Edmonton. We have lacked real heart and soul players in our top 6 to compliment Connor and Leon. Hyman's smile is infectious and so is his work ethic. What a complete hockey player he is, I know that when most people would look at TO they'd think about all of your high end firepower, but he really impressed me last season having seen him so many times head to head with the Oilers. We will be in our own cap hell shortly as Puljujarvi is taking his game to another level and he will get paid after this season. In a sense we are where you guys were last season in terms of having one last kick at the can before some players need to get paid (Nurse's new contract kicks in and Pulju needs to get a hefty raise). We will likely walk away from Koskinen and trade 1 or both of Barrie or Kassian to be cap compliant.

Great, now we're getting trolled by Oiler fans.

You seriously think my post was a troll attempt? You must've missed all of the times last season that I defended the North Division, Matthew's goal scoring, etc. If your mods think that I am trolling they are definitely free to delete my post, I promise you that is not the case. If I wanted to shit talk it would be on the NHL main boards.

Nothing personal since I have no idea who you are.

Exactly, Thornton put up points when he was with Matthews and Marner. Anyone can have sucess with them.
