Rumors that make no sense to me:

- Forsberg, Jenner....no clue why those teams would move on from those good and still young players at this point.
- Ekholm...don't see how he fits here unless for some reason we're moving muzzin....or rielly....neither of which makes much sense imo.
- numerous plugs struggling in bottom 6 roles for bad teams- none of those guys sounds like upgrades.

Names that make sense to me: Hall, Foligno, Palmieri.....all of whom would likely thrive more offensively with the leafs than they are right now for their current teams.

I wouldn't consider Forsberg and Jenner at 26-27 to be that young if they are on teams that are right at the cusp of a full tank rebuild.

The process alone will likely take them to 30, and that's not a great use of money.

Same logic applies with John Gibson - a guy we should certainly save our assets to make a pitch for.

Hopefully that Boone Jenner/Nick Foligno deal is actually going to happen
A goalie trade is possible but very tricky, would love to see it and think we could push to make a good deal(s) happen but think it's unlikely; think Ullmark would be the most likely candidate if we found a taker on Fred. A Foligno/Jenner would be great, especially Jenner but I'd doubt he gets dealt. If Kerfoot was dealt, we'd be able to afford a combination of 2 forwards with retention like Granlund & Pearson for instance. Could also be Wood, Namestikov, Staal, or even Rakell although he'd already be pricey as is without retention. If Kerfoot goes out whoever comes in would have to at least take most of his place on the PK.

I dunno - forsberg/Jenner are guys you keep building around, and both signed for another year. There's many other older pieces on those teams to trade away if you're rebuilding imo.

Gibson I'd be wary of - true he's been a secret super elite goalie most of his career but the last couple years he has been kinda just bad. Sure he might look better while motivated on a good team but that's a lot of money to gamble on that.

Well for starters Hall couldn't do much worse. 2 goals in 26 games (and some are pissed with JT lol). We can say its just a down year but he would only be here for the balance of the year.

Wouldn't it be funny if he played with Willie and they both lit it up during the playoff's 1-2 PPG each. What would Dubas do then?

Dubas isn't going to make a drastic Goalie change in the middle of season. As much as I would love to see it, because I personally am not a fan of Anderson.
This is what I am saying. No way there will be a big blockbuster goalie shake up in Toronto mid season, when Dubas is trying to compete for the Cup.

sure it makes sense to keep Forsberg and Jenner....unless you know that they aren't really interested in re-signing once their deals are up. I don't know that to be true, but it's far from impossible.

If Dubas trades for Hall, I hope that is done with a solid plan in mind to retain him going forward (considering all of expansion, next season's cap situation and acquisition cost). Galchenyuk was acquired as a pending UFA and without another asset also coming this way. I imagine the ask for Hall being quite higher than what was traded away for Galchenyuk though. Galchenyuk should also be easy enough to re-sign or walk away from based on how things play out for the rest of this season.

And a market that's pretty hostile to its goalies

The Forsberg thing comes from Nashville saying only a few pieces were untouchable and he would be a perfect fit for the Leafs. But I imagine, what's not said, is the big overpayment it would take it get him.

Ditto with Jenner.

It really is a no win for Dubas, unless we won it all. Hall continues to play like crap, Dubas sure to get dumped on. Hall excells playing with Willie. We can't afford to resign him, I'm sure Hall will be looking for more than his current 8 million.

Given Dubas was rumoured to have been shopping Andy last off-season, it wouldn't shock me entirely to see him traded since it would help create cap space for elsewhere on the roster. This rings especially tru if the team has quit on him, and Dubas knows that.

That being said we shouldn't expect some elite, Vezina calibre starter coming back. They'd be moving to Campbell as the 1A starter and try to bring in a 1B type.

Thing to keep in mind, is that there's a reason those types are reliable starting goalies. They're unproven in the role and could flounder. You're just hoping they, together, can get hot for the playoffs and ride that wave.

Several people have said this but I'm skeptical, moving Andersen in the summer without a replacement being in place makes no sense to me.

There really couldn't be any workaround to him not playing well. As a one-and-done acquisition, the team would have to advance really far in the playoffs or have a pick stipulation similar to what NYR and TB arranged for the McDonagh trade (a conditional 1st based on winning the Cup). Of course, Tampa had McDonagh for two Cup runs and ultimately re-signed him.

Its now or he walks for free this summer. Even though we have nobody I would not give Fred what he is making now and certainly not for 3 more more years. I think someone else offers him a better deal.

If I were a team holding onto a Forsberg or Jenner and headed towards a long rebuild I probably cash in on the asset, but I guess it could go either way.

Yeah, I wouldn't say Gibson was a secretly elite goalie. He had that best in his position pedigree for a lot of years and the Ducks actually made Andersen available because of his emergence. Anaheim's really fallen off the past couple of years, but I see what you mean about being wary of a goalie like that. You never know if they get the shell shock and are never the same... but in this case I like Gibson.

There was enough media smoke around it that it likely had some validity.

I suspect they ultimately couldn't work something out with the free agent or trade target for a replacement which collapsed the plan to trade him
